  2. Things change so quickly with this whole pandemic, it's hard to keep up. I've been an inpatient internal medicine physician for nearly 20 year (also not an OU grad). My community hospital has been one of the, if not the most affected by corona virus in Northern California. The change in our workday from just 2.5 weeks ago is like night and day. While there is a tremendous amount of angst, it's also been a revelation to see how the colleagues we've known and at times taken for granted for years have stepped up to take care of patients at risk of their own health. Obviously nurses and doctors, but folks like transporters and folks who clean the rooms and deliver food go about their days, doing their jobs, often hands on with zero complaints. Testing in our area has been problematic, but I think they are ramping up. Availability of PPE is a looming problem. We've really started to ration - tremendously. Hospital also had several negative pressure isolation rooms, which when needed were most often used to keep patients isolated who were being tested for TB. They create several more, almost overnight by putting up plexiglass partitions and portable air filtration systems. That capacity was swamped very quickly. It's not exactly comforting to know you are perhaps not as protected as could be, but you do the best you can. Beyond running out of vents and PPE, I lose sleep over the thought of colleagues getting ill and having to take time off. We are not staffed for this...at all. If a few people get sick and the flood gates of infected people open up, it's gonna get ugly fast. I think I work in a bubble however, of very heavy burden of this illness. Fortunately I work for a goliath of west coast heath care and hope they have the resources to protect us as best as can be expected. I feel for all those affected by the economy. Sounds like a lot of people are losing work and don't have the financial wherewithall to survive this the way I do. Unfortunately, I've got all the work I can handle.

  3. Lots more testiness today in this forum, and it makes perfect sense. You don't have to be advocating any particular ideological solution to make a pretty solid case that several aspects of "the system" just plain don't work under stress. Daycare? Or unemployment? Pay your workers? Or lose your business? Hell, 330 million Americans are currently having to make tough choices about something fundamental, and it's a different something for each of us. Maybe we could dial down on judging each other just a tad. Just a suggestion.

  4. Hey fuckface, it’s not black and white. A lot of our employers are not shut down. Should I let my kids stay with their elderly grandparents? Maybe I can quit my job? What’s your solution?

  5. Yes, I think I posted earlier today the 40/50 we know are hospitalized in the major downtown Chicago hospitals have been responding well to the antiviral cocktails they're doling out. Cautiously optimistic because so far we have needed very few respirators here in IL. I'm almost hesitant to post these type of updates as invariably some moron will use it as an excuse to go be a fucktard.

  6. You poor snowflake. You come on and start off accusing a poster of wanting a high death toll in order to get a Dem elected. You evidently thought it clever and would come across as, I don't know, a non-Trumpist perspective of someone just asking questions. Nope. It was an idiotically obvious partisan fire-bomb that you thought you were tossing into a den of ebil libs. You get called out. You fall back on the tired, "Ouch, everybody here is so rude and echo chambery." The fact is you prefer an echo chamber filled out with the round tones of Limbaugh and Hannity. You assume "the other side" is just like you. Nope. That's an idiotic refusal to look at the posters on here as individuals. Some individuals are long-frustrated Dems. Some are long-deceived GOPs. Some actually are not partisan at all. Those with working analytical skills all see this administration and the Senate that enables it as a criminal organization that cares not a whit about the republic or the institutions on which it stands. Go back to your safe forum and whine about the stupid, meanies on this forum who don't share your enthusiasm for the taste of the vomit that flows daily from the right's hate engine. I hope you get your hug there. You sound like you need it.

  10. I can tell I'm not going to make it through quarantine. The wife spent all last week complaining how overblown the virus thing was and how stupid the panicky shoppers were. Then slowly all the other stupid wives on her best friends text chain started texting about getting groceries, medicine, TP, etc. Then she turned into overly crazy shopper. I told her to limit her store visits and just get the necessities. She came home with a car full of shit. I asked where she went and she had gone to Tom Thumb, Target (3X), Wal Mart, Sams, dog food store, "and a few other places." AG: Why did you go to Target three times? Mrs. AG: I forgot to get a butternut squash. AG: What other stores did you go to? Mrs. AG: I went in to the skateboard shop next door, look I got you a pair of shoes!!!! (I am 40 and have never skateboarded) AG: That's a necessity? What's in the other bags? Mrs. AG: I also went to the liquor store (she doesn't drink liquor, and I told her to stop buying me liquor because she buys shit and I'm trying to clear out some space in my bar area, but gave her the benefit of the doubt) AG: Ok, liquor sounds good, what did you get? Mrs. AG: LOOK!!! (she proudly pulls out a bottle of "moonshine" that is just flavored grain alcohol in a fake mason jar) AG: Why would you get that, you'll never drink it? Mrs. AG: Oh god no I'm not drinking that. AG: Have you ever seen me drink moonshine, or anything other than scotch or whiskey? Why would you get that? Mrs. AG: Look at the flavor!!! It sounds so gross!!! Butter toffee moonshine, can you imagine?? At that point I just shook my head and walked out. I came back later to get a whiskey drink and found 4 bottles of "moonshine" and a bottle of peanut butter flavored whiskey.

  11. Fuck off, loser. At this point you’re about as welcome on this thread as the actual coronavirus. ive got a friend who is a single mom, and also a doctor at a hospital, about to be on the front lines for this in California. Her childcare is her parents and daycare. So tell me, shit for brains, should she cower at home like you and not follow her Hippocratic oath to help save lives, or should she cross her fingers with daycare and herd immunity and do her fucking job?

  12. I am in trouble. Gf1 and gf2 are friends and I lived with gf1 for 6 months and we are friends with boom boom and gf2 spent last weekend with me without gf1 knowing. Gf2 was supposed to spend the next few nights with me but gf1 had trouble moving between cities because her ID says she lives with me. So gf1 moves back in with me and I waived off gf2. The gf2 video chats gf1 while at my place and invites herself over for dinner tomorrow. Gf1 points the phone at me so I waive as innocently as I can. Then gf2 tells gf1 she wants boom boom with me. Oh, and at some point gf2 starts saying she is pregnant, although I don't think it is possible due to her cycle. So tomorrow I am looking at a. Death, b. Two girls living with me, c. A 3some with gf2 going home, d. Gf1 moving out and gf2 staying, e. Both girls leaving, f. Gf2 behaves and nothing happens, g. gf2 confesses and gf1 is cool with it but not down for a 3some. Note that gf1 already wants us to have a 3some with a different girlfriend. Suddenly the virus is not my biggest problem.

  15. Not scared. People hate the fuck out of Trump because he's the most contemptible piece of shit to hold high office in the United States in at least the last century, if not ever. That's bad enough, but he has an entire Senate majority covering for him, even though they know he's a dangerous, impulsive moron. This is, or should be, an apolitical crisis that isn't heavily influenced by D or R, or reelection, or polls or any of that. But it is, because Trump. However, because this is essentially apolitical, Trump's puerile and facile efforts to shift blame or focus aren't working and are seen for what his entire presidency has been: a fucking reality show. The only way he's "doing better" is by not being a complete dumbfuck asshole.

  20. We separated in the summer of 2017. Our initial custody hearing was that September. A few weeks before, my ex wanted to take the kids with her to Crosby just a few days after hurricane Harvey hit so she could go see her cousin. Even after showing her the maps of all the flooded and damaged roadways and lack of power/fuel in the area, she still argued with me about taking the kids. Fast forward a few weeks during our hearing, my attorney brings this up while I'm up on the stand. The judge stopped me mid sentence and goes "Crosby, isn't that the town that had the chemical plant that was about to explode because it was flooded?" The smile that came across my attorneys face was something else. And that's the story of how I became the primary custodial parent.

  22. Fuck every single Trumpkin in this country. And fuck that come together bullshit. You people have supported every single lie he's said for the last 4 years. You stood up and supported him when he threw out dog whistles and blatant directions supporting violence. He is incapable of telling the truth, and you Trumpkins applaud that. There is no let's be friends and supportive. Fuck every single one of you.

The door locks have been changed. We have finally realized you were just a junkie selling lies all along. (you meaning all republicans)

  26. Trump is still actively trying to keep us apart. Calling it the "Chinese Virus." Blaming Obama. Saying he takes "no responsibility." Meanwhile, while being a racist asshole he also pretended to take the threat seriously for an hour. After weeks of lying about it. And only after the market's have crashed and most of the country has shut down. Meanwhile, there's multiple cases in my town, the local hospital is about to run out of beds, the state is short of ventilators, and the president is giving a bunch of self-congratulatory press conferences. And I guess we're supposed to genuflect to him over some crumbs for finally recognizing at least a month late that there's an actual crisis. Fuck that noise.

  27. This. If we know that an event can happen that will kill hundreds of thousands (maybe millions?) of Americans, and devastate our economy to the tune of trillions of dollars, that sure looks a whole lot like almost everything we worry about with respect to a war. So maybe we ought to spend some money and effort on "defense" against the things that are actually going to happen? We don't need a standing army to repel an enemy landing force. We do need a pandemic response plan that includes rapid reaction to help shut it down at its source. The bang for our buck would make the defense budget look like the huge waste of money that it is.

  31. I’m telling you that the 2020 financial crisis that this is HAS to be handled in a way that the public sees as fair. I would argue that the reason we have Trump is due to the fact that the 2008 financial crisis was never litigated in the public’s mind. No one held accountable. No real societal change. Yeah, maybe the legislation prevented this crisis from being worse, but there was no lb of flesh for the American public. Because of that, the resentment festered. It grew. It metastasized into Trumpism. We have to, HAVE to only bail out industries the American public feel are essential. Maybe it’s not the cruise industries fault that this happened. Oh fucking well. Main Street needs the $. Airlines need the $. But you know what? They don’t need to be 3 -4 companies. Break’em up. Take the $ and require a timeline to stabilize and a path to transition to multiple companies. Time for bailouts with conditions. Real structural change to put us on better footing. I’m fucking 35 years old. This is my second to third Major financial disaster if you include 9/11 as a financial disaster. That’s not fucking right. Fix the system. Millennials have to step up And fix this boomer crisis bookaki b/c they’ve obviously shown no ability to handle the basics of leadership. In the words of feckless leader: You’re fired.
