  1. That dude's name is Hogan Gidley. That's that kind of name that gets you on the ballot for KA president as a freshman at Auburn.

  2. Spent the past three days in the Central Idaho wilderness, questing for big bull trout. Safe to say, we were successful. It was ... emotional. Already scheming for a follow-up trip. Have many pics and GoPro vids to process. Might post some follow-up media in a few days.

  4. Lamb ribs for lunch. Overnight sous vide @ 160, couple hours on the smoker to finish, basted with some drippings, ACV, lemon juice, and onions. Finished with a fresh squeeze of lemon. Served with a tomato cucumber basil and feta salad, and some greek yogurt.

  5. PSA - I saw a picture on Instagram of a Facebook post about a tweet warning of a gang initiation happening tonight in Austin. If you see someone driving without their headlights on, DO NOT flash your brights!!! They’ll shoot you, that’s the initiation!!!!! Stay safe everyone...

  11. I don’t disagree with much of this but America has failed because the American People have and continue to fail ourselves. We’re collectively shitty patents, we don’t value education, we prioritize things over people, were lazy, were selfish, we spend all our time on social media and eschew facts and research. We let ourselves be lied to. The current Republican Party is the ultimate manifestation of that. It will change when we change.

  16. The modern version of the Welfare Cadillac black lady. Contrary to what republicans think (since they are wrong about nearly everything). People like to work. But working for subsistence wages is not possible for many people. Especially if that person has kids that would require them to be placed into a daycare facility, and the pay earned from the job is not enough to offset the expenses of working at the job. Below is a chart from 2013. We know this has grown more askew to the right. Now explain to me why someone in the <70% (arbitrary) should risk their life/health and that of their family to enrich those on the right side of the graph? Why should someone take a job that costs them money and puts them in harms way? Why should someone take a job where they basically cannot afford the health care which is stupidly tied to employment and expensive for many, in some cases, more expensive than their wages. We have serious fucking flaws here. Myths and bullshit economics shouldn't be a matter of policy.

  19. Went on a sail boat near Acadia national park. The place is beautiful. Maine reminds me of a smaller version of Alaska- driving around here it feels familiar to my trip to Alaska only with hills instead of 20k foot mountains. 3 more days in Maine (maybe 2). Told the kids they could pick the next place we stop for a week, anywhere between Niagra falls and North Dakota (teddy Roosevelt national park) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. I start this rant by acknowledging Facebook is evil and I should delete it but it’s the only platform that has anything active for university parents. And after reading the absolute titty sucking whining from so called adults about the fact that their precious crotch spawn aren’t getting the “traditional college experience”, I’m very close to posting a scathing screed. Yeah - everything about this absolutely sucks. But at least AU is letting kids come to campus (which I’m still not 100% comfortable with). Most freshman are going to be 60% online, 30% blended, and 10% in person. It’s the safest least shitty option. Nobody is happy about it. These assholes are starting petitions, encouraging parents to bombard administrators emails and phones (including the home phone and address of the president), calling media, insulting professors for being “lazy and taking advantage”.......absolute Karen and Chad nonsense. They want their kids in full normal classes, football games, and fraternity parties. In a perfect world, I absolute want that for my kid but OMG none of that means shit if they’re dead or permanently disabled or infect and kill someone they love. Life sucks. Shit ain’t fair. Suck it the fuck up and quit setting shitty examples for your kids. Sorry for the rant. And BTW the worst offenders are out of state parents who think they’re entitled to in-state tuition because of all this. Bitch no. No one is forcing you to send your precious baby out of state. I’ve paid Alabama taxes for decades and one of the benefits of that is in-state tuition. All I want to do is read the information about what our time slot is for move in and where to pick up her Tiger Card and I have to wade through 37 angry posts from Melinda and how she’s getting cheated. Ugh.

  24. After following this thread for the past three/four websites, I recently went through a treatment facility. It's amazing what a week or two of detox and all the other benefits will do. People that came in with that thousand yard stare shuffling around and talking to themselves seemed like relatively normal alcoholics/addicts after a short time. I'd start there and then proceed with further psych treatment if the symptoms persist.

  27. That's kind of where I'm at on this. It's very likely there will indeed be protests tonight, but the "paid protesters" from Portland smacks of the Soros tropes. While I get that last weekend's protesters probably didn't have a permit to march down Congress, job number one of the cops should be to keep the peace and protect protesters, bystanders, and property. I don't think they did that last weekend even though they had an evident presence given the extremely rapid response time to the shooting. These quotes from the KXAN story should actually be encouraging: APD: “We are bringing in the necessary staff, and have partnered with other local law enforcement agencies as we have done throughout the past few months, to allow for those peacefully and lawfully practicing their first amendment rights while also working to prevent any violence or destruction of property.” DPS: “DPS supports the right of individuals to lawfully protest, and public safety is our top priority. Therefore, DPS will be increasing our presence this weekend, along with our local law enforcement partners, to ensure public safety needs are met and to combat any potential criminal activity.” Those are absolutely the messages I want to hear.

  28. Posted this in the atm thread but one fascinating detail about this call is that the SEC's 'medical expert' is the dean of atm's school of public health, who, when asked a question about the virus, punted and said, "Remember, I’m an industrial hygienist, so I’m not the medical person here." 29. Of course it’s almost certainly bullshit. Worse than that it’s probably fear mongering bullshit. Social media is the perfect platform for people to feed their confirmation bias and play into the unmitigated fear/hatred of others. I feel like this happens every time there’s some kind of protesting action, and it’s always the same thing about people being bussed in to instigate unrest...what would these people gain beyond some pocket money at the risk of getting arrested? The people paying them would gain what, and to what end? I’ve driven from Austin to Portland, it took 3 long days in a uhaul...it seems a stretch they’d rent a bus for that when they can just find people here to pay. Now I know there have been situations when people from other states were arrested in protests/riots, but has there been any legit news where these people were found to be paid for it? You’d think the law of averages would play out where someone would have been busted and sung about who paid them, and I’d think it’d be big news as one side of the aisle would have gone ballistic over it and uncovered who exactly was paying them. Sadly cases of bullshit are on the rise

  30. Its pretty surprising they haven't focused on Trump properties yet. Golf clubs seem like an easy target, its pretty hard to secure that much real estate. A couple of guys with some roundup could draw dicks everywhere and make it hell to repair.

  32. No this is a dream scenario. The SEC has never played a full round robin in it's history. Their rankings will demonstrate how much they gamed the system through the years by adding a 3-0 to all of their records.
