  1. The biggest advantage in getting to fully-weaponizing NIL will be having access to opportunity density. Texas, USC, and Miami are 3 easy entities in which this is simply illustrative. There are more ways to get involved with a player when the market is larger. It puts programs like Auburn or Oklahoma State, fringy occasional top 10 programs even, at inherent disadvantages on a natural level. National brands like ND and whoever is hot at a moment like Bama or Clemson, can leverage larger markets too, but there will be diminishing returns after a few big and interested players. That said, it's a simple path towards overt cheating as well, and given what we know at this point about the NCAA willful ignorance to this whole landscape, it's likely to not actually be cheating and simply the de-amateurizing of college athletics and open season for running a payroll. Programs that can create an optimized floor of salary band for the program will ultimately recruit the best from a depth perspective. Any program worth mentioning will be able to enable 6 and ultimately 7 figure compensation for the elite skill players, particularly at QB. So what? The programs that can reflect a $2k+/month payout to back-up guards and DTs will wind up filling the trenches and depth charts with the most talent. Setting that up means either having a rabid set of wealthy sole proprietors who will throw money at payroll without professional league expected returns or having enough opportunities across the school's natural market to build up a book of paying entities irrespective of a player's overall ranking or stature. The former exists more in fan fiction than in reality. The latter will occur more frequently in larger markets with real fanbases. Think about, not fully hypothetically, if someone has influence or control over marketing decisions, social media, branding, etc., for roughly 60 businesses. Were they so inclined and could see the value for even a fraction of those businesses, they could work up a plan to get everyone below the Bijan level at UT that makes the depth chart a monthly stipend of $500-$10000/month during the 6 month season and make it make sense for their businesses financially. Anything B2C makes sense. Anything in the area in which an event can take place could make sense in terms of involving players from the school. Basically, NIL just unlocked potential for some of the cheapest social influencer deals in history, and stacking those up for each player can still ensure that your top 40 guys at any point in time are making elite money for an 18-23 year old. I talked to a guy today who told me that this won't effect the bag game and I just laughed. This is chaos in real time. No one knows a fucking thing, so the dumbest thing anyone can do is take a position that this won't change much. Right. This changes everything. Some places will have no recourse but to continue leaning heavily on dropping bags, but places like Texas can now begin the process of using its market and brand to help its players get paid in ways no one has ever fathomed. We have no idea how wide and deep this will get.

  2. Sybil (Sydney's wife): Hey, honey did you hear that Dr. Miller just bought his wife a G class SUV. I saw his wife walking her dog and she says she absolutely loves the car. Sydney: Yeah, that is a sweet ride, but I really prefer your classic purple Focus. Sybil (Sydney's wife): Well, the car is nice and I really do appreciate it but, I'm getting a little old driving it to work. Our other old neighbors just bought a vacation home in the Keys and as a gift, the wife bought him that 38' Fountain fishing boat that he has always dreamed of. I wish we could retire like that. What happened to our retirement? Sydney: We got Bear. Sybil (Sydney's wife): Bear. What Bear? Where is this Bear? Sydney: Well, he is at East Mississippi Community College, now. Do you want to see him?

  3. What the fuck is this reasonable shit. I want Surly to sponsor many players as possible and make them post here non stop all day while fat middle aged men with anger issues tell them that they suck and post unfounded rumors about their families and character.

  4. A few things: Surly is going to keep it's distance from any current or prospective players as far as NIL is concerned at least for the first year. It's not worth the potential damage it could do within the community early on to jump straight in without a very well fleshed out plan. That doesn't mean we won't invite (for pay now) players/pom-squad to come to things like the pre-OU HH at Lee Harvey's or do meet and greets that are very cut and dry legitimate NIL activities that everyone would want even if NIL wasn't a thing. This thread is completely derailed with NIL stuff - please start a new thread and/or use an existing thread to talk about NIL with respect to recruits and/or current players. I'm going to be trying to clean this one up, but may not get to it until later tonight. I'm open to opinions regarding contact with current players, but so far we've drawn a pretty hard line in the sand at former players only on the Podcast. One thing we don't want is for any involvement on Surly or potential "scoop" however juicy to have detrimental effects in the locker room or on the field. I'm happy to host an entirely player led segment and give them a platform to talk about stuff directly with fans they want (think post-game presser type questions, but from surly posters instead of the media). Feel free to send me a DM if you want to get involved or have opinions you don't necessarily want to share publicly.

  12. Everything here is exactly what we all thought was happening. It’s all so obvious. It’s how a mafia member would do things and that is how Dotard operates. This was nothing less than an attempt to completely subvert our system of government and everything this country has worked for for 200+ years. They should all be executed.

  14. Colt McCoy has played for 5 different NFL teams and will never be considered an institution in any of those towns, but he'll always be a Longhorn. That's the kind of emotional marketing that businesses will throw huge money to try and harness.

  15. I remember when all the neck beards including Cruz trolled Cali when they had rolling black outs. That shit would never happen in Texas. We have our own grid, by gawd. And then Icepocalypse happened. Then the lege wants to allow the electric companies to include fees to everyone's electric bill for god knows how long to help pay for the losses incur by the electric companies because the lege and the same assholes didn't/wouldn't do what has been warned about for decades from happening. Privatize the profits, socialize the losses. Great fucking system, but don't call it socialism. The neckbeards all agree it's a good idea because it came from their team. And now our fanfuckingtastic grid is warning of conserving energy or the grid is going to have a hissy fit again. Fucking lulz. We and Cali deserve the government that we elect. Two sides of the same shitty coin. This is what happens when dogma takes over and one ruling party controls the state with impunity for too long.

  16. This guy will deny this, but about a year after we hired him out of college and he got a raise, Sydney bought a fucking rice rocket Lexus, cobalt blue with a spoiler, and rode it around town as his actual “sweet ride”. Watching that gangly motherfucker tear into the parking garage in this tiny vehicle and then seeing his gangly self spill out of the car once parked was one of the more hilarious things I’ve witnessed in a work setting. Other Jarrod looking bastard.

  17. Kix is either a shitty 80's hairband or sugary breakfast cereal I was prohibited from eating as a kid, can't remember. Either way, Bray might want to look into that before getting too attached to the name. I hate to break it to you, but Kix cereal is not/was not sugary at all. It has no taste. My mom brought it home once and we were pissed. Your parents lied to you. And you’re probably adopted.

  21. For comparison: Demarvin Leal: 7.6k Jalen Wydermyer: 8.1k Haynes King: 6.8k Kenyon Green: 1.5k That's three potential first rounders plus the starting QB with less followers combined than a Longhorn with one career TD.

  23. Per rumors, Texas is adopting a platform that will act as a digital broker platform for opportunities for players. I hope that's true and not fantasyland, but it would remove the need for some guys to get agents. The offers would go directly to kids. The way you maximize the NIL is to find creative ways to make it profitable for the regular guys who aren't top players. You maximize it top to bottom, THATS how you get this thing to sing. Evan Stewart is a self made tik tik star, he's going to explode with this one way or another. You find creative ways to get the entire OL room paid a few thousand each semester for a hot dog eating contest at some event. You make everyone happy. Also, and I'm sure Texas is handling and aware of this, but they'd better be explaining and setting things up for education and understanding of their tax obligations, because what we don't need is a ton of fucking kids realizing they owe 15k to the IRS they don't have at the end of each ear and bemoaning Texas for letting this happen.

  25. Go easy on him. He’s been having a hard time lately. Sark’s got that new coach shine, Beard’s recruiting every elite transfer under the sun, baseball’s the highest seed in Omaha, and our athletic department is going to win the Director’s Cup. It’s a very difficult time to be satya right now.

  29. Denver Harris was who I mentioned, mostly because he's legitimately told them and everyone else that he's not interested in them. If something occurred to change that opinion and he showed up there in midweek, not good. Stewart's different because his dad is running his recruitment and flat out expects to get paid.

  30. It’s not about feelings. Trump is working an angle that the election was stolen. He can’t break kayfabe and meet with Biden, unless he’s ready to abandon the angle. Which he is not willing to do, because that angle is why he is still drawing crowds. In 2021, we all know that wrestling is fake. But all those “It’s still real to me, dammit!” dipsticks didn’t go anywhere and they still need a fantasy outlet. So they’ve gone all in on Republican politics. The GOP treats politics like a work, and its base eats that shit up. Hollywood Hogan was just an act, sure. But globalists stealing the election really happened! And Trump will finally get his revenge over Sleepy Joe Biden when they clash at FreedoMania 2022. And when he doesn’t, it will be the fault of the Globalists and the Liberals and Vaccine Fauci, and Trump will surely get his revenge at Clash of the Presidents 2024. Just you wait!
