Last Jedi Was So Bad I Only Saw It Twice

Re: Empire...

So when Han is lowered into the carbon freezer/chamber, his hands/arms are tied behind his back, but when he's lifted from the chamber and shown in carbonite, his hands are up at his side?

And how was Luke able to get away from Hoth with no problem while the Falcon had the entire Empire after him?

I think we need at least 2 or 3 more movies to explain these inconsistencies.

Rogue One is definitely number 1 when it comes to Disney Star Wars movies. Whitaker wasn’t that bad if you followed the Clone Wars TV series which gave his character more weight in RO.

Rogue one

The Force Awakens

Solo (a surprisingly fun film that was ruined by neck beards before it even came out)

The Last Jedi

Start about 1:12.  The oompa loompa's look like they release his wrist binders while he's still is bound around his chest.

Luke was also able to jump to hyper space fairly easy after retreating on the backside of the base, Han can't jump because his hyper drive is broken and therefore is easily tracked as Vader and the Empire's blockade has him within their sights.

And how was the Falcon not able track on their radar that Boba Fett was trailing them to Cloud City....when Bobba Fett was right behind them?

Falcon had a faulty rear view mirror..... couldn't see directly behind them.  Funny, but there's a theory out there which ran around several years ago that Boba Fett had put a tracker on the Falcon when The Hut had confiscated the Falcon before the OT started.... Really?

Nah, he's right...That character was really fleshed out quite a bit in Rebels and before that Clone Wars.

any Star Wars books I should read to further burnish my understanding/enjoyment of a movie? are there classes I can take? I wish they published the prerequisites somewhere ahead of time

Not sure why you're angered by an expanded universe.  Doesn't hurt the Marvel movies that they have other shows they expand some of the characters(like Phil Coulson for one).

Clone Wars and Rebels made some characters that were not well done in the movies(Maul and aforementioned Whitaker) very important and really cool.

Sometimes it's okay to watch other things that are related as well.

Isn’t there a bookfags forum we can direct people to?

Seriously, if a movie includes esoteric references you can only understand by reading source material, that’s a negative for the movie.

A few inside jokes/easter eggs are probably fine, but whole characters and plotlines? f that. It’s bad writing, bad editing and bad filmmaking.

I don’t see a problem watching The Clone Wars before RO came out, then seeing a character(Whitaker) in RO, and being like “wow that character had a great arc in  previous films and him being RO only adds to his overall character”. Don’t call it overkill if someone fallows SW more and keeps up to date with characters. Whitaker’s character was fine, some liked him, some didn’t, either way he didn’t leave the audience confused.

Now what I think is awful, and what you guys are probably negative about is a scene like the one in ROTS. Mace windu and his dudes go to confront palpatine about how he’s not the senate blah blah. Palp does this grandma scream and lunges like a torpedo at them, killing 3 master Jedi in like 5 seconds while only moving 2mph. That’s stupid, their masters and should be able to put up a fight at least. But instead you have to go to the ROTS book and it tells you palp was moving at light speed and the scream was an ancient sith sound that distorts opponents during battle. George made those masters look like shit, that’s bad writing and directing. He could have portrayed that scene way better. I shouldn’t have to read a book to reassure myself that Jedi masters arent idiots in a robe and lightsaber.

I really didn’t have much of a problem with the Saul character. I thought it as a cool idea to have another “sect” of rebels that you don’t hear about in the OT.

Character may be fine and cool, but it was the terrible acting that was distracting.

Half Ghost Dog half Madmax. Was off-putting

I don't think it's as bad as you're conveying it. The spinning torpedo shit is stupid but I feel like the way he cuts down the 2 jedi (who aren't masters, are they?) does a decent job of displaying his power. The following duel between him and Windu isn't bad. And there are a lot of good fight scenes in that film, especially Anakin/Obi Wan's duel and the Yoda/Palpatine duel.

I mean you're talking about 20 seconds in an important but non-climax scene in a close to 3 hour long movie. As far as shit-the-prequels-did-wrong this is nowhere near the top of the list.

And the book you're talking about is a novelization of the film, sooo... who's to say they didn't just try and explain away poor choreography.

.They were all on the Jedi council which makes them masters. Agen kolar(i think that’s him) was the first to go down and he didn’t even put up a fight and looked surprised. But that was my point from the beginning  in that these dudes were masters and I felt like if palp was going to slaughter them with ease, it should have bee done better.

The fight scenes were amazing except for the beginning of this one. But I was really going for how ppl were throwing shade the wrong way when it comes to external knowledge of the film. We didn’t need an excuse for what palp did in a book when it could have been done the big screen. But with Whitaker it’s a little different for me. The performance can be criticized but him being part of a “rebellion” fit perfectly with the story in RO, since that where he started years before.

Edit: idk why the font is different.

Good take. Thanks.

I kind of realized what you meant while I was posting.

I looked at it as he was simply a plot vehicle to tie two portions of the story together. Last trusted old friend, knew the daughter, etc. And he was meant for nothing more.

So far as Whittaker’s delivery. Well, he was playing a rebel leader that was fully aware that he had spent his entire life on a cause he knew that he would not live to see either win or lose. He was on O2, couldn’t walk well, and trapped inside a mountain because everyone is looking for him. I’m not sure what more you want. Other then he didn’t fit the role, and you would have preferred someone else?

Maybe they can make a Star Wars show inside a Star Wars show.  Like them filming a Reality TV show of Star Wars actors inside the Star Wars universe where we see Rose Tico chilling on the couch eating tubs of ice cream and watching 'Casino Planet Animal Racers' or something.  Can't wait!!
