So basically, according to the Republicans are saying is this crime should not be punished because he only has another week left in office. Hmmm, so if a school principal assaults a child a week before he is due to retire he should be allowed to finish out the school year. Sounds about right...

the current talking points have transitioned to:

- kumbaya

- don't poke the kraken

- political pettiness

- there's only a week left

Trumpers in January of 2020:  "You can't impeach him unless it's a specific federal law he violated!  High crimes and misdemeanors?  Name one!"

Trumpers in January of 2021 after reading that inciting a riot and insurrection against the government is not only a federal crime, it's spelled out in the Constitution and is literally one of the oldest laws we have in this country, "Okay, well...let's go back to the Ukrainian thing then."

Also, any you attorneys wanna weigh in on how strong the defense of, "There's only a week left" is?  I'm sure that worked elegantly for Germany in April of 1945.  Look, it's April 30th---he'll probably kill himself soon, we're gonna surrender in a week anyways, do we need to go through with the whole invasion/occupation thing?

Goddamn, it is incredibly embarrassing every time a Texas politician speaks. Can y’all stop electing so many fuckin bozos?

Hopefully that will happen when some of these republicans get their asses booted out of office.

I would love to tell you that it’s just “East Texas gonna East Texas,” but unfortunately are senators are fucking morons as well.

It seriously makes us look terrible. Especially Gohmert's regarded ass. Rural Texas is the worst. Can't wait until this state inevitably turns blue.

Exactly. He’s not capable. If you don’t get that then you haven’t figured him out. You still don’t understand him. And that’s sad because he’s so easy to understand.

Trump always runs away in the end.  He’s a coward and resignation is the only way he’s going to survive past the 20th. I wouldn’t put money on it though b/c he’s really fucking stupid.

How do we square this with the reporting that Mitch supports impeachment? Is there a another reason why he wouldn't convene?

push the impeachment into the biden admin to screw up how quickly biden can start working, also lets cruz, hawley, etc., whine about trump not even being in office anymore

those reports are bullshit? Mitch sending a message to Trump that he needs to consider resignation? McConnell is an obsequious coward just like the rest of these GOP fucks

Because in a year or two, 1) he can say he supported it, and 2) by not reconvening, he doesn't have to deal with the fallout from actually bringing it.

Doesn't it have to be unanimous to.bring them back early? Also, might give him more time behind the scenes to get more to vote to impeach or to abstain all together.

There's a 2004 provision that the Majority and Minority Leader can agree to bring them back without unanimous consent.  But looks like McConnell blew that up.

He can still do it but he wants to throw this monkey wrench into Bidens first 100 days and let it distract.

My understanding is that, under the rule Schumer is trying to use, the only consent needed is McConnell's.

This dude lost his 25 year old son, survived an armed mob storming the Capitol and is an impeachment manager. All in the same fucking year.  And the year is 13 days old.

I'm convinced that Gaetz is going to be the one to successfully take up the Trumpist mantle.  He has bought in more than Cruz and Hawley and he has the "he talks like us" idiocy as well to go along with no Ivy league taint like Hawley and Cruz have.
