  1. Sigh. I miss the understated dignity of the Camacho Administraion.

  2. Nobody knows more about sports than my dad. Nobody. I know that everybody has someone in their life who they think that about, but my dad is actually that guy. He has a freaky brain, a photographic memory, and he spent more than three decades covering or working in high level sports, mostly NCAA football and basketball. There are many people here and within the UT interweb universe who know him and can attest to this fact. Every single day that I spend time with him I hear three new stories that I've never heard before. The last time I saw him before today he was regaling to me in great detail several stories about a Texas vs Georgia game from 1958 or something and he said, "I remember it like it was yesterday", telling me all about Fran Tarkenton's contentious relationship with his HC, not to mention stories about the Texas team as well. The man is a walking encyclopedia. Today he and I met for dinner at El Patio and then headed over to the NIT game, and between those two places he just did what he always does- paint pictures of the past with his words. It's amazing. My dad worked with and knew Lam Jones, and today at El Patio he was telling me stories about Lam, including his opinion that Lam, Earl, and Vince are the three guys at Texas who made every defense they played completely change their normal game plan to focus on him alone. As he put it they were the three most "feared" offensive weapons we've had at Texas in his time covering or working with the team. Then later at the basketball game we just happened to be sitting amongst a whole slew of people who he knew and used to work with, including John Bianco, who as I understand it more or less replaced my dad when he left UT. The reminiscing on Lam continued, and as always I just sat back and listened and soaked it in. Now i'm no professional, but i am passionate about photography and film, and every single day of my life i am constantly photographing or recording anything i deem worthy of it. I like to put together film and photography projects, I went to school for that type of thing, and my dad obviously did it for a living for a while as well. So anybody who knows me at all is used to me taking candid photos and videos of our daily lives, even mid conversation. Most people think it's weird at first, but they always end up appreciating it. And I know I do too. Today was no different, and as you're about to see I took some candid video of my dad talking about Lam (I say candid, you say "creeper", tomato/tomato), and I've now uploaded those two clips to youtube. The first clip is at dinner, and he's telling me about a game Texas had in 1978 against someone important, some rival/important team, maybe U of H or TCU, and we ended up losing the game by three, essentially because of a blown play where the entire opposing defense focused on Lam who was merely a decoy. He said that when they watched the film that Fred Akers ran the play back 5 or 6 times just so that everyone could see how intently the D was focused on Lam. The second clip is of my dad talking with Bianco about how when Lam returned from the 1976 Olympics, the athletic department (or maybe his news station? couldn't hear it all) had my dad fly out to Lampasas with a crew to pick him up and film him (or bring him back to UT? again I couldn't quite hear it all), and how there were people from Lampasas on the runway chasing his jet as it took off from the air strip. Getting to be a fly on the wall for these types of conversations is always something I've treasured about my dad, and the truth is that I don't want to wait for him to get sick or die before I make a thread about him. He wasn't always in my life; our relationship wasn't always good; but he has been in my life for quite a while now, and I really appreciate that, as well as the wealth of knowledge he's given me on so many subjects that i'm passionate about. Not many people got to grow up around/knowing their heroes like I did, and not many people have a dad who happens to be the world's expert on their favorite subjects. So this one's for my dad, and all the other dads out there who are loved and appreciated by their sons. Thanks dad.

  7. Looking back at Collins' visits during the season, he visited A&M for the Clemson game, and then went to four straight Texas home games, including back to back big wins against USC and TCU; the others were Baylor and WVU. So he went to Clemson instead of Tulsa, and didn't make Iowa State, but visited every game in between, and made four out of six home games. He then visited the first weekend recruits are allowed to visit after the dead period I wonder if a small part of his not visiting since is him already seeing Texas five times in five months?

  8. Because I get some back story on the kids that play football and their recruitment. I read actual quotes from the players at times. I can see how hard this coaching staff works compared to the last two at recruiting. I'm not saying it's not fun to talk recruiting. Just that melting down over one 18 year old isn't worth it.

  9. That's a lot of hullaballoo your canecking there, Mr. Dedicated tu Fan. Aggies transformed Longhorn statements that OU was a bigger rival into "tu says we're not their rival" and then proceeded to, typically, humiliate themselves by fretting over the invented position. Obsession over imagined obsession is typically Aggie as well. It never ceases to amaze and amuse how A&M imposters can't get through two posts about the rivalry without regurgitating Fish Camp dogma. Here's a place holder until Mr Phlegm arrives.

  12. I don't know why I'm indulging you with a serious answer, but there are a couple reasons why Tell me about A&M is the largest thread in the Football subforum. The first is that instances of aggy stupidity occur very frequently in ways that both bewilder and amuse us. The second is that aggy reads this board and reacts to it elsewhere in often laughable ways. Our sewer dwellers (a term of endearment, I swear) find those reactions and post them here for us to laugh at and the cycle continues. The third is we prefer to keep all but the most newsworthy A&M info in there and avoid separate threads.

  13. Fun fact: Trump's percentage of total elector votes was #46 in our country's history (out of 58 Presidential elections). Top 79%. WE'RE NUMBER 1!!!1!

  14. First, off, "Melting Down" over one 18 year old may not be worth it to you, but showing up in a room and telling people how THEY should react to something rarely ends well, regardless of topic or context. See the Cloak Room. Additionally, if you're just looking for quotes and some background, you can always read and leave. That being said, I remember being told melting down over 18 year old kids was stupid in 2007-2010. Everything works out. I remember being told melting down over Greg Davis while we were winning 10 games was stupid. I remember being told I was being a cunt for being harsh on Charlie Strong right out of the gate. It's always some people telling you you're melting down over nothing right up until everyone else decides it's time for everyone to melt down. But if we waited for that, then what's the point of even having a discussion board? This isn't a meltdown. But, if I were melting down over anything, it's not over an 18 year old. That's where you're completely missing the point. I'm pissed over a systemic, multi-year issue coaching issue with multiple trend-lines that has direct negative effects on our roster and our ability to take the next step as an elite program. And even more frustrating, it's a problem with several not very difficult solutions. So I'm not melting down over an 18 year old, I'm melting down over a program deficiency, no different than Strong's attention to Special Teams, or Mack Brown's refusal to recruit past June of each calendar year. And I don't give a fuck if this staff works so much better than the last one recruiting, going from last to 2nd isn't what I or most others want for this program. I'd like to be the BEST, not just Better Than Charlie. So while there may be less things to gripe about these days, and I'm grateful, when I see shit I will comment about it. If you feel differently, that's great. Good for you. But this is a discussion board. I am discussing.

  15. No, it didn't. Having to play Wheeler at MLB cost us at least two games this season. Our inadequate recruiting at ILB from 2016 through 2018 (yes, Herman/Orlando share some blame as well) put us in a disadvantageous position on defense. The fact that you can't even evaluate the team and roster correctly tells me that you're out of your depth here.

  18. And this is why I think Beto needs to be the candidate. I entirely get Bad_teammates' point of view. He wants big ideas to solve the worlds problems and he wants them implemented. But, what I see as the biggest challenge for this country moving forward isn't immigration, or climate change, or Russian interference, or healthcare. It is rediscovering a willingness to listen and understand perspectives different than our own. It is moving past the divisive my way or the highway attitude, whether that is Trump demanding money for his wall or Bad_teammate declaring that anyone who doesn't embrace his path for caring for the poor and elderly is his enemy. Before we can solve the world's problems, we first have to be willing to have actual discussions about them. We have to be willing to consider and evaluate our available options. And we cannot do any of that if we respond to every counterpoint by plugging our ears or by, like Trump, declaring every dissent an act of treason. Policy is important. But right now the most important policy needed for this country is the policy of niceness. If we can implement that, I am confident that we will solve our other problems in time. If we don't, Brisket has whiskey and a warm seat saved on his ledge.

  25. Everyone needs to chill the fuck out about Giles and Collins. Do any of you even know how bad the traffic in Austin gets? Especially going east on 290 during rush hour. You think GIles is going to sit in traffic for 2 hours to go see a prospect who should just come here anyways? He's got much better things he can be spending his time on and if any of you were coaches you would know that.

Considering our injuries and lineup circus, I'll take it. Pierce is a hell of a coach. Can't wait to see what he does with loaded rosters over the next few years.
