I can’t express enough how happy I am to have Bijan and not worry about Zach.18 points

Recap of the pool party catered by Chef Price: Evans trending Georgia. Eaton delays commitment. Princely trending Texas. Jimbo takes balls to the face. The one commit is a 3* WR that's a coaches son REAL. RECRUITING.17 points

Jesus Fucksticks! I get that this is an annoying as fuck recruitment and I’m glad Texas isn’t playing along anymore, But is there any specific history of abuse with this guy that would warrant this comment? Pretty fucking shitty take to baselessly and prematurely accuse a teenager of domestic abuse just because he is going to a different school and you don’t like the way he deals with recruiting.14 points

Besides the sheer elation of landing Bijan because he’s the football love child of Alvin Kamara and Lesean McCoy (no! bijan’s 40 is like .06 slower than McCoy / @Katfid54), getting to laugh at all the Zach Evans drama from afar because we already have a 5 star RB is really going to increase the amount of entertainment I derive from the 2020 cycle.14 points

Imagine if you had to drive 100 miles to buy a gun because there was only 1 place to do it in your state. And you were required to wait 48 hours, but only after looking at photos of dead kids killed by mass shooters? And speak to a medical professional before being allowed to buy the gun.13 points

Slot WR is the safety blanket for the QB in this offense. Lots of single coverage against LBs and less athletic DBs like nickels and safeties playing off coverage. What you want there is a reliable, veteran player who you can count on to run the right route and catch the ball. Also important for that guy to be smart in order to sight adjust to blitzes and to find the soft spots in the zone. Duvernay is that kind of experienced, smart player. He's supposed to have the best hands of any Texas WR. He won't be as tough as LJH moving the pile downfield after the catch but he's a guy the staff probably trusts to convert 3rd and 5-7 yds. At Z you need a guy fast enough to stretch the field and his hands have to be good enough to credibly threaten the defense deep. Medium fast is good enough if the line can protect against a 4 man rush. Herman and Co have recruited a lot of fast guys and some of them have good size as well. Eagles may not be quick but his top end speed is enough to do that job and he seems to have good hands as well. Lastly if Sam is still working on the accuracy of his deep ball, the bigger catch radium might help and the extra size to basically post up the defender on a back shoulder throw doesn't hurt either.11 points

Thanks, Swandered. That describes me to a "T." A bit of a "drunkalogue" as I'm reflective upon my time one year ago, leading up to the beginning of my first ever attempt at sobriety: One year ago today, my wife / kids / dog left town for a few days. Leading up to that time, for the past several months, I had been subjected to "controlled, monitored" drinking by the wife which was only controlled as far as she could see, and monitored when we were in the room together. I had a pretty tame night the first night she was gone; drank NEARLY a handle of tequila, ate fried chicken, and watched a couple of episodes of Tom Hanks' "The Pacific," which I'd never seen before. "Pretty tame." The next morning, since I had more to drink than I had in a while, I felt pretty crappy, and before a meeting with some potential sellers at a property for my side gig, I had a few more chugs to get the day going. By the end of that property walk-around, I could barely walk or talk, let alone offer anything sagely to the realtors. I somehow made it to my car without falling down, but it was obvious I was drunk. I commenced to back into a parking bollard and wreck my car, then drove home, probably with a stop at Spec's on the way. The rest of the day was a blackout. I skipped work, drank, slept, and who knows what. That night, I remember being in my car, parked in front of my driveway gate, but without my keys. I then couldn't remember the gate code, so I climbed the fence, tore myself up pretty good, then tried to break into my own house. No telling how long this went on, but I remember waking with the sun the next morning, covered in mosquito bites, and remembered the gate code. Found my keys in the passenger seat of my car, went inside, and proceeded to get ready for work, which I would skip for two more days. Thankfully, a moment of "God," when on day 4, two friends came to pick me up, asked me if I was drunk, and I admitted a problem. After several days, two ER visits, a tried and failed sober living house situation, and a completely destroyed 13th birthday party for my son, I was in IOP and back to work, and began this sober journey of self-reflection and spirituality. I'm thinking a lot about that dark void I was in. I think a lot about the "not good enough-ness" I've led myself to believe in for years. I have been thinking a lot about that lost week, where I went, what I did, and how I survived. I'm very blessed to be sober today, a few days short of a year, and thankful for all those who came before me, in rooms, in this forum, and everywhere else. I have today, and although I could be beating myself up, I'm thankful to be here instead of there. TL:DR - anniversary of going completely insane and thankful to be sober today.9 points

So, on Sunday -- which was not the greatest day for our family, what with the news and all, I got to do something that made me happy. We were down in Surfside, hanging out at the beach. I was tossing a popping shrimp topwater in the surf (NADA was happening), while my buddy was bobbing in the waves drinking a beer, and we were shooting the shit. An 11 year old kid had been out there earlier watching my kids fish, and decided he had to try it himself. He came out there with a rod and reel that was a little too big, rigged for bottom fishing, but not the right way at all. He was struggling a bit, and asked me some questions. So I tucked my rod under my arm, and helped him with his rig. As he would cast out, I coached him on keeping the line taught so he could feel the bite, keep his rod tip at a mid position so he could keep the line taught but set the hook, etc. After a few casts, he hooked a decent little whiting. Nothing exciting for any of us who've grown up fishing the coast....but this was a little 11 year old african american kid from Arkansas -- he'd never fished salt in his life. He hooked that fish, and man, you'd have thought he'd hit the lottery. He took it in to show his dad, they put it in the cooler so he could fry it up later, and back out he came to keep trying. As we were leaving, I visited with his old man, and helped him rig up with a smaller hook from their tackle box. And I told 'em he was a helluva fisherman, keep it up. Hopefully, he will. Fishing's a good habit. I didn't catch a damned thing all day. But it was a good day fishing. It still surprises me how happy simple things like that make me. I didn't catch a fish, but I helped a kid catch a fish, and that feels 100X better, you know?8 points

Devin Duvernay is a perfectly cromulent option at slot. The slot plays off the LOS, so a physical nickel or LB can't get a face-to-face jam on him at the snap. When the ball is snapped, Devin's going to be sprinting unimpeded. This is important, because he's essentially racing the pass rush. If he gets downfield faster than the defense can get to the QB, then he's almost always going to be 1 on 1 with a deep safety. Here's the ugly secret - if the deep safety's initial cut is to cover, Devin fades to the outside. If he initially cuts to support, Devin bends inside. Either way, if Sam and Devin see the same thing, the safety is helpless. The key here is "racing the pass rush". Last season, even as fast as Devin is, the OL couldn't reliably hold up against a pass rush long enough to spring him. This limited everything. LJH rode to our rescue by being a tough matchup who could win contested balls in traffic. The slot in our offense shouldn't be doing that, but thank Bevo he was there to do it. The lack of downfield threat (primarily caused by not-quite-good-enough pass protection) kept the defenders close to the LOS. Any time Ingram broke through the line on a run, he was sure to find 3 more defenders waiting for him within 7 yards. The compact nature of our offense simply prevented any long gains. Right now, the Texas WR room has an embarrassment of riches. Not only talent, but diverse talent. Speed. Size. Catch radius, etc, it's all there. If Herb Hand does his job, the receivers will get their time in the press conferences.8 points

Are we talking about gun control here? I'll go ahead and try to make a reasonable post, even though I should know better. I've owned an AR15 for 7 or 8 years, but I truly don't see the need for them to be available to citizens. Outlaw them, create a buy back program for them, and I'll bring mine in without hesitation. I do get why some are scared of the slippery slope when it comes to banning guns. If that led to other gun bans, specifically ones that have legit use for home defense and hunting, I'd be pissed. It's happened in other places and it's reasonable to think it could happen here. Frankly, as long as we can still own shotguns, bolt action rifles, and wheel guns I'm fine with everything else going away.8 points

I think these two paragraphs boil it down pretty well. I'm can see real value about having these policy debates; we could actually have a very healthy and helpful discussion around them. That's how past politics in this country used to function: identify a problem, debate the topic based on various ideological perspectives, and then come to a compromised agreement on for specific solutions. But after 30 years of rabid right-wing radio and Fox News -- both preaching vitriol focusing on demonizing the Other (Democrats, progressives/liberals, millennials, immigrants, minorities, etc.) -- the Republican Party specifically chose to support this spectacularly offensive, malevolent, and soulless charlatan as their standard bearer. In doing so, they deliberately rejected pragmatic solutions to society's ills and instead decided to only promote dogmatic hate. They had 16 other choices for their leader and they chose Trump.7 points

Why are the Right Wingers, who have harped so long and hard on the supposed lack of dissident voices among Muslims and Blacks speaking out against violence within their countries and communities, remaining silent about this problem among their own? This is your chance to prove the courage of your convictions in joining us to unequivocally renounce hatred and bigotry and will take the necessary steps to end the domestic terrorism of racists and white nationalists within our American community.6 points

And yes, I believe this is the sad truth. In fact, in the wake of El Paso, I'm not really comfortable with the conversation being SO focused on guns. The issue isn't guns (although guns make the body counts easier to rack up). It isn't mental illness (that's an issue sometimes, but not that often). It isn't video games (well, not video games in a vacuum). The issue is that we as a nation, we are a selfish, individualistic, anti-community death cult. We have mythologized "the individual" so much that to even mention "the community" is heresy, COMMUNISM, SOCIALISM. As a result, giving a shit about anyone else is an anti-American value. Expecting people to think of others before they act is being a socialist pussy. And, as a result of all of it....a shitload of us are desperately alone and lonely. Human beings long for community. It is our natural order -- we're as communal a creature as ants are, damned near. And to the extent that our nation offered progress, it has done so when it acts in a communal way. Read de Tocqueville - in our earliest days, the essence of our country was one of community and society. Our greatest flaws have been those of separation -- the separation of slavery, the separation of Jim Crow, etc. We need each other. All of us do. But we live in greater and greater isolation. We live in echo chambers, so there is no communal ethos common to us all. We separate into hateful tribes. When all of these things happen....humans will become sad, angry, hateful, and murderous beings. We can limit the availability of instruments of death, and that may improve one ugly symptom of this illness. But we will still be very, very sick. And the disease will end up killing us, one way or another.6 points

Cook is a very good cover corner, has great technique, but lacks elite athleticism which he makes up for with okay size and length. Jamison is a very good cover corner that has elite athleticism but lacks good height and length. They played at the same highschool and 7 on 7 team. If you've watched them play, you'd know that Jamison was every bit as good if not better in many of the games. I think you're reading too much into this. The coaches are going to play the hot hand. We're going to see all 3 CBs rotate quite a bit. This is good and will only make Cook step up his game more. It's an open competition and if Jamison wins, it means he's playing lights out. The kid was a highly rated recruited with big time P5 offers.6 points

I don’t know why everyone is so worried about these shootings. Our President said we are going to respond with great resolve. I am sure he and his closest advisers are already hammering out a plan of action... Trump: We have to do something about this shooting in Que Paso. Steven Miller: Sir, have you considered pardoning the shooter? Trump: Bold! I like it, but I can't. Melania says I have to do something to stop ethnic violence or I can't blow dry her toenail polish. Ivanka: Well, you could appoint a Hispanic to lead a new department tasked with curbing ethnic and racial violence. Trump: Now we're cooking! Steven Miller: It could work -- but only if it is a powerless facade. Trump: But who... who would I get to head it up? Kushner: I would suggest Ted Cruz, we need someone more appealing to hold Texas long-term anyway. Steven Miller: Alexander Acosta is available. Trump: No, Cruz is a pussy and Acosta looks like Mr Potato Head. “Look at me! I’m Mr Potato Head! Look at my big brown ears and misshapen non-caucasian head!”. No, we need someone charismatic and tough, who our Mexican population can believe in... I've got it! The perfect leader for this new department! Kushner: Who? Trump: That tough mexican guy with the leathery face and tattoos... he was in a couple of movies a few years back, has knives all over the place... Ivanka: Are you thinking of Danny Trejo? Trump: No, no... what's his name... MACHETE! That's him! Get me Machete! * silence as everyone glances at each other uncomfortably * Steven Miller: Alright, Mr President, I will reach out to Mr. Machete about the post. Trump: Now what should we call this new department? I want a catchy acronym. Kushner: How about the “Bureau of Ethnic Relations”? Trump: "BER"? Brrrrr! Its cold! Boring. Anyway, it’s never cold in the shithole countries where these people came from. Hate it. Steven Miller: Sir, I would suggest the “Bureau to Elevate American Nationalism and Ethnic Relations” Trump: Hmm… Ivanka: “BEANER”? Really, Steven? Steven Miller: *shrugging* It will resonate with the base. You’ll get a bump in the polls, sir. Ivanka: Daddy, I don’t think... Trump: BEANER! I LOVE IT! What better way to appeal to beaners than BEANER. Great ideas, Steven. I’ll let you run with this from here. Steven Miller: *smiling sinisterly* As you wish, Mr President...6 points

8 years ago today, I got this goofy black girl from Heart of Texas Lab Rescue, pretty sure its the best move I ever made, also 1 year ago, give or take a few days, Chloe the little white shit was born. So I shall celebrate both their birthdays on the same day. Got some 25% off chicken and beef slices from HEB that I tossed on a hot plate to kill any bugs and cut it up. couldnt get both of them to sit still at the same time. The power of meat pretty much overcame most commands: the meat medley in the bowls lasted less than 40 seconds.....6 points

I don't understand any of the apprehension about Duvernay or questions about his ability. The dude put up 51 receptions, 546 yards and 4 TD's as a third option. And he has the most reliable hands on the team. What kind of expectations did some of yall have for a third option? Oklahoma's third option, what with their prolific air raid offense, was Grant Calcaterra (who's being hyped as one of the top 100 players in the nation) had 26 catches for less than 400 yards. Duvernay was underwhelming his first two years. He wasn't last year. It's weird that some are considering him a concern at slot.5 points

Truth. aggy went 68-61 (.527) in conference play during their time in the Big 12 (including a shitty 19-22 conference record over their last five years), and didn't participate in the Big 12 CG at any time after 1998 until they ran away like scared little bitches after the 2011 season. They were mediocre in the Big 12, and they've been mediocre for the most part in the secsecsec. They suck. They always have sucked. And they always will suck.5 points
