1. @GRHorn, like it or not, Trump is the President and we can only judge his handling of this threat at a strategic and tactical level. Strategically, he has attempted to defund the CDC the past two years, eliminated the pandemic response position on the national security council and appointed an unqualified overseer in Pence because of loyalty concerns. Tactically, he waited too long to take this seriously, continues to make public statements contradictory to the experts, has attempted to silence the experts (who have thankfully ignored the order to quit talking to the media) and otherwise conducts a response focused more on the feel-good economy in an election year than on the health and well-being of our citizens who are most at risk. It’s been two months since the armchair QBs in the DT thread recognized this as a threat using a fraction of the information available to the President. We have just now gotten some funding in place and seen a trickle of test kits flowing to the front lines, so to speak. The video you posted is great, but it does not mean what you think it means. The presenter is criticizing China’s authoritarian response, not championing Trump’s — which advocates a softer quarantine in the suggestion to “avoid Seattle” (Larry Kudlow), ignoring CDC suggestions to stay home if infected, doctoring statistics by not counting the infected who have mild cases and avoidance of testing for those who don’t feel that ill. The presenter in that video makes statements that are counter to all of that coming from Trump and/or his administration. The head of the WHO has said that “countries have been planning for this (type of event) for decades. Now is the time to enact those plans.” So what is our national plan for this type of event? There isn’t one. The position that would allow the President to be well-informed of an impending threat and who would be in the position to have a plan for an early tactical response was eliminated. That was not an Obama decision. It was not a Hillary decision. It was a Donald Trump decision. This is Trump’s first real test in a national crisis not of his own invention and he is failing miserably.

 2. It’s not up to us. It’s up to a fucking moron you support, whose election made an outcome like this inevitable. A crisis like this is fucking EXACTLY why many of us sounded the alarm about him well before the weekend. He’s utterly and completely, 100% incapable of handling anything like this. Many people are going to die. The economy is going to take a big hit. It’s not my fault. Fuck, it’s not Trump’s fault. It’s YOUR fault - you put him in the Oval Office. Reap the fucking whirlwind, you fucking idiot.

 7. Dude, by no means am I sticking up for Greenspoint here, who is a moron of his own accord. But you're being an absolute clown in this thread. We have entire first world countries shutting down. Our very own city just cancelled its annual half-billion dollar event. Almost every major gathering of people in the country either has or is taking steps towards shutting down. And you're still here telling people that they're overreacting by having some level of concern or expecting leadership to take seriously something that has potential to kill MILLIONS of people. Something that is already the most disruptive societal event since 9/11 and your entire purpose in this thread is to tell everyone how stupid they are for caring. Shut the fuck up, bitch. Stay in your lane and keep your unearned self importance contained in the football threads. I don't know or care what your agenda is, but nobody wants to hear your shit here. Most of us are here for information, not to watch you act like an irresponsible fool.

 8. This should be the focus of the democratic platform. this virus has exposed everything that’s wrong with the Republican platform: 1.) Healthcare that doesn’t actually cover everyone And leaves us all worse off b/c ppl can’t get care 2.) Economic policies that leave almost everyone but the top 1% screwed / on the edge just waiting for an event beyond everyone’s control to throw them down the rungs of the economic ladder. Ppl who can’t afford / aren’t allowed to take a week off of work to get better. 3.) Gutting government to the point it can’t keep its citizens safe 4.) Pro life... unless you’re outside the womb.

 9. It’s political because our chief executive is an incompetent menace. He’s vain, desperately stupid, and malignantly defensive. His moron cultists follow his cues. Three years into this Orwellian farce, they’re conditioned to react to any bad news with belligerent denial. They must destroy the truth because the truth reveals their persistent stupidity. This virus is no different. Except that many of the loudest propagandists will choke to death on the very illness they deny.

 10. Italian math is a little different. It’s a given that 20% of everything goes to the local mob boss, so 42.2% is actually a majority of the remaining 80%.

 11. "Messaging". It's not "messaging", it's "intentionally deceiving". And his incompetence doesn't just stop at his mouth. For what possible reason did it make sense not to take advantage of the WHO's testing kits that they offered up and which most countries gladly accepted? This not only caused a delay, but our development went off the rails leading to further delays.

 12. Because loathing hypocritical morons like you who aren’t man enough to take ownership of the fact that they made infantile, moronic decisions that cost people their lives brings me joy. You made a narcissistic dumbass madman the captain of the ship. Own it, pussy. Fucking own it. Try manning up, just for once. It will be a novel experience, but you might like it.

 13. It’s fucking comical watching other people shit talk how Houston would handle a region-wide crisis. Houston had a fucking curfew after Ike. People lived with it as supplies in the region dwindled and stores were completely closed. Same thing with Harvey. It just handled a full city-wide boil notice on a weekend without a hint of controversy. We don’t have to predict how Houston will handle a fucking thing. Now, predicting how the dipshits on this thread will spin out if the mayor of Austin sneezes? Chaos. Complete, bawling, handwringing chaos, buttressed by even more hyperbolic doomsday predictions and absolute declarations of a full-blown federal conspiracy with Trump as some sort of genius mastermind pulling strings behind the scenes. That one is an easy call.

 15. I have a lot of family 70+ including my 99 year old Grandpa in a nursing home, so to say that people like me aren’t concerned is disingenuous. At least for me, when I post about this it is in reference to the US as a whole and not just how it could or might impact me personally. I am concerned about my elderly family members and of course I do hope that we somehow get a handle on this soon, I just think the talk of millions dead is hyperbolic and unnecessary.

 16. Given your wife's condition it's of the upmost importance to you to take extra precaution. Think of it like this. You keep him out this week and he gets spring break the week after so you have 2 weeks to let things play out then evaluate where it's at. What's the worst that can happen from that decision? He misses some work? You can talk to the teachers and explain the situation and probably get him work to do at home. Option 2: you send him this week, find out the fed blowing the coronavirus testing strategy means it's far more rampant here than we know now so he contracts it and brings it home to you and the wife. Now her life is in jeopardy. Seems to me the worst case cost of sending him outweighs the worst case cost of not sending him. Just what I would do though.

 17. Mainly because they’re letting normalcy bias overwhelm data and mathematics. A massive pandemic is not something any of us have ever experienced. In all likelihood, our parents have not lived through something like this either. We are biased by our own life experience and, in that experience, these things always end up being much ado about nothing. The data shows that this one is probably different, but many trust their gut over numbers. Combine that with the fact that people are fundamentally self-centered and any one individual is unlikely to die from this. When making sacrifices, most ask “is this worth the benefit to me?” Too few people ask “Is this worth the benefit to the unlucky ones who will die if we don’t make sacrifices to reduce the pace of this disease?”

 18. Walk me through that confidence...I see a commander in chief consistently downplaying the gravity of this situation who has gutted the departments that should typically take charge during these events and hurriedly put someone in charge that probably thinks you can pray away the gay. Explain your confidence.

 19. You exist in this thread just to be a mega cunt to everyone without offering any original thoughts of your own. I don’t know if that’s how you are in real life or just your tough guy internet persona but your presence makes this thread worse. You don’t impress anyone by constantly shitting on other posters. Find something constructive to say or do us all a favor and find something else to do with your free time.

 21. Your entire presence in this thread is defined by telling people they are stupid for being concerned. You're adding nothing to a thread that has been very good and informative for those of us who just want information. Even those on this thread who are taking their preparedness further than you or I think is necessary are still adding value to the conversation. There is no reason for you to behave the way you are in this thread except to get yourself off on your own intellectual superiority. Grow up.

 25. He said we stopped it. He said he knows more about it than anyone. He ordered public health officials not to make public statements about a goddamned rapidly developing pandemic. You fuckers embrace and fellate senile moronity, and then expect us to listen to you raise senility concerns while Trump’s jizz is still dribbling down your chin? Bitch please.

 26. You know what, I’ve never ever voiced any ridicule or doubt about the sincerity of your beliefs despite the fact that you absolutely revel in being an inflammatory asshole. But fuck you and your sexist bullshittery about my vote being dependent on “a cute boy”. Putting a stupid juvenile emoji after your misogynistic crap doesn’t make it okay. Anyone who has read my posts knows I have stated repeatedly that Bernie and Biden were my bottom two choices (outside of clowns like Marianne Williamson and Tulsi). I have been engaged in this primary. I have volunteered and phone banked and knocked on doors and donated money to multiple presidential candidates and down ballot candidates in Alabama and in other states. I made a choice to cast my vote for Biden on Tuesday. Because while he is far from my preferred nominee, I believe he has a better chance of winning against Trump. My belief may be wrong and if it is so be it. Since Tuesday you’ve been vomiting vitriol and name calling and copying and pasting Biden tweets in virtually every thread on this board. You’re acting like an unhinged Trumper complete with condescending sexist jabs. And I apologize to washparkhorn because while he has also been on an anti-Biden and anti-anyone not Bernie tear, he hasn’t made any personal attacks or name called and he’s certainly never stooped to boiling down anyone’s choices to following “a cute boy”. I admire your passion and I hope you’ll continue to fight to move the party to left and help Biden win in November if he is the nominee. BT, you need a mental health break. Your obsession with your candidate and your need to spew hatred at everyone who doesn’t bend the knee to your politics is legitimately frightening. But I fully expect you to respond to this with gaslighting and more cheap shots and name calling and sexist jabs so I’ll just be ignoring you from here on out. I sincerely hope you’ll be able to manage your anger and misery when Bernie loses again.

 32. Well, if one didn’t believe in infinity, one need only contemplate the moronity of Trumpkins to confirm it. Of course the fucking virus would exist and be here, you fucking mouth breather. That’s not the goddamned question. The question is whether the administration took the right steps to mitigate its spread and effects. Your fucking God king has only lied and worried about how the situation makes him look. He’s instructed federal health officials to be silent, to avoid making him look bad. It’s been a textbook case of how to do literally everything wrong. Go “but Hillary” yourself up your Depends-clad ass (I presume you emulate your lord and savior). You put a narcissistic sociopathic infantile moron in charge of, well, everything. You did. And this is what you fucking get. This is on you. This is your fault.

 33. The Trump lens is the one that is currently positioned between the sun and the citizens of this country. How many of us burn like ants is yet to be determined, but a rational actor in the oval’s first act would’ve been to aim the lens elsewhere, or tell said citizens to get out of the way. edited to add: Trump’s first, second, third, etc. acts were to make sure that the lens was aimed as far away from Wall St. as possible, despite the fact that it was always going to make its way there anyway.

 34. Shaka Smart makes Tom Herman look like Bill Belichick. I'm dead serious- it's hard to do this badly when you've recruited the way he has. it's spectacular failure. it's almost *INCONCEIVABLE* to be this shitty for this many years with nothing but top 8 national recruiting classes. don't let Rex Kramer fool you- Shaka is spectacularly bad; the worst coach at Texas in any sport in my lifetime. To have the players he's had and to be 10 games under .500 in conference play with zero tourney wins is almost impossible. almost.
