  1. The nursing home where my Grandpa is had a parade today. The got all of the residents out in the parking lot and let the families drive by. My 99 year old Grandpa seemed to enjoy it. At least it was a beautiful day today. Yes, that is a Members Only jacket and yes, at 99, he probably is the only member.

  3. When I was growing up, seeing someone carrying an American flag usually meant that they were a veteran marching in a parade, or it was the 4th of July, or some similar American holiday and/or celebration. It made me happy to see. It was actually a symbol of our commonality. These days, when I see someone waving an American flag, they are almost always an ignorant piece of shit doing so as a "suck it!" maneuver. In short, today, when I see someone waving the American flag, I assume they are shitty, ignorant people. And it's almost always accurate. Goddamn shame what it's become.

  4. I've worked in manufacturing all of my adult life. I've yet to see a company that could switch from producing soda to "tests" overnight. People who have a naive view of manufacturing make me surly.

  5. The craziest thing about COVID is that it inverted the CR and DT boards. Suddenly, CR is the home of data-driven analysis and DT is full of morons spouting off uninformed bullshit. Half of that thread is convinced we have herd immunity and they support that view by claiming up to 10% of the US has been infected. I don’t even know where to begin with such a Russian nesting doll of stupid.

  7. Dr. Birx can get fucked too. Her silence and her interviews which give Trump cover is medical malpractice. She’s complicit in giving these nonsense stream of consciousness ramblings a thin veneer of medical credibility. Fuck her and her beehive and her stupid scarves.

  10. You think about it, Red Shirt had to be one of the best Star Trek acting gigs. You memorize few if any lines, you walk around some, you fade out when they zap you, and boom, paid the rent on your cheap 1960s California garage apartment. Then you're in the system for future work in Time Portal, Land of the Giants, or hell, let em smear more make-up on you and be a Klingon. Fast forward, you're old, you're broke, you want to go to your estranged daughter's wedding in Florida because, hell, you gotta do SOMETHING right in this life, right? Google sci-fi conventions, oh, there's one right there in Orlando that weekend. They pay your ticket, you jet in, put on an XXL red tshirt, lie about shenanigans on the set to a bunch of slobbering fans, hit the hotel bar with a person dressed as Eowyn for when they do a walrus version of LOTR, charge it all to your room, and you remember-- just in time-- wedding! So Walrus Eowyn pours you into her PT Cruiser, larps some Richard Petty, and you show up at the Salem Church of Christ just in time to puke free Laphroaig all over the blood-red carpet as your daughter cries. Well maybe it's your daughter, not like you'd recognize her voice. Ah, Red Shirts.

  12. I grab an HVAC filter and head towards the attic pulldown to change the filter. Wife follows me. Her: I wish we had stairs to get into the attic. Me: We do. You pull this string and the stairs come down. Her: not like that. We just need stairs. Me: Why. I got up there once a month to change a filter. Her: It would be easier with stairs. I'm looking for a place to put them. Me: So, you want to take up hall space or space out of one of the spare bedrooms, to use 12 times a year. (not even mentioning the lost heating and AC cost) Her: We could put them where the linen closet is. Me: Where are you going to put all of these towels. Her: In the attic! Me: (walking away with my head down, muttering to myself.....WHY, WHY did you fall into that fucking trap. WHY!!!!!!)

  15. It wasn't covid that inverted the boards. It was Trump. On shaggy, there were right wing trolls, but there were also a significant amount of reasonable right wing voices. After Trump, the reasonable voices either seemingly moved leftward like Brisket, Twice, and LL or quit posting like Wulaw and Auburn fan. That left only the trolls who quickly ran to the DT safe space. Hammer and onboard have been spewing nonsense in DT for a few years now. Every mass shooting thread for the last few years looked just like the DT covid thread. DT is practically a snake oil board now.

  23. Correct. I started thinking about moving when Trump was elected, but thought maybe I was overreacting so I gave him a shot. Based on conversations with others in the Austin bubble of sanity and listening to the GOP leadership talk shit about him during the primary, I honestly thought the public, and the GOP would hold him in check. Obviously I could not have been more wrong. I used to travel to Prague a lot and had even started taking Czech classes at UT before all this started, so it seemed like a natural landing spot...although the language bit has proven trickier than I thought. But I digress... Based on what I was seeing in the stock market, I expected a crash so I sold my house and moved to trailer on a friend's property in rural Kentucky while I applied for my visa. Needless to say, living in Trump country only served to strengthen my resolve to leave. Coming from Austin, it was eye opening to say the very least. Anyway, I used a company called 4Expats who helped me figure out which type of visa to apply for, and walked me through every step of the process. I'd assume there are similar services for any country you'd want to move to. The visa process itself was painfully slow...took almost 9 months from the initial call...so it's best to plan ahead. I'm so happy that I was able to get out before all this shit went down. It's hard to describe how different the approach by the government, and citizenry has been here compared to what I see and hear is going on back in the US.

  24. <CSB> dad was still a commercial pilot in 2001 nearing retirement. Shortly after 9/11 at the airport, in uniform on his way to work, a young TSA agent was giving him grief. Told him he could not bring his nail clippers and tweezers I believe. Anyways, dad lost it, told him "look here kid, I flew helicopters in Vietnam for this country before you were born. If I wanted to kill everybody on board I would just point the fucker at the ground and my nail clippers aren't doing a damn thing about it." Very soon after pilots were allowed to carry firearms if they chose (he did with a mad max job with rat shot) and that reignited his anger toward TSA experience. <CSB>

  26. It needs to be inhaled, though. Some might suggest a 1:1 concoction of ammonia and bleach. Not me, not Trump, some. Might work, might not, according to some. I don't know, I'm not a doctor. What have you got to lose? I didn't say that.

  29. The biggest flaw with the "we need a businessman in the WH" approach in defense of Trump is that we elected a spokesperson, not a businessman. The one shrewd move Trump has ever made in his life was turning his name and bullshit persona into a brand, and licensing that brand to the actual businesses that were trying to push product. So he was able to give the public appearance of running all these different businesses, when it fact he was just the name and face of Trump Steaks, Trump Vodka, etc. So we basically elected Jared from Subway as our President, except an even bigger piece of shit.

  31. HOLY SHIT. This is a follow up to the Karen getting arrested at the playground. This is the mob outside of the arresting officer's house. https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/g69sul/protesters_gather_outside_of_officers_home/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x Rant. FUCK YOU ultra right wing motherfuckers. If this were a Latino or black mob confronting this officer's house, the Republican idiots would be calling for a full out SWAT assault on the people. Right wing nutjobs with AR15s would descend on the town looking to lynch people. But since it's crazy fucking suburban Trump idiots, then these people are patriots fighting tyranny. FUCK YOU!

  34. Well one is a company that makes products for sale and profit, met by demand. The other would be something operated at a net loss by the government, because you can’t expect private industry to eat money for the public good. Additionally, in all likelihood, the need for testing at this level is very, very temporary. The demand for soda less so. it’s hardly an apples to apples scenario and is a dumb blanket statement. And I say that as someone who thinks we’ve woefully and short-sightedly outsourced too much production overseas and who thinks the government should be moving things like this back home. Now ask what happens when guys make blanket statement about tests but fail to take into account that no one can get some of the core ingredients for tests, like reagents, etc. Are soda companies making 350 million cans of soda a day if they can’t get their hands on much sugar and corn syrup and there’s a shortage of aluminum?
