This is a tremendous post on its own. But the irony of you accusing someone else of behaving predictably just takes it to 11. Well done. Let’s get NorLa in here to tell someone else to go home because they’re drunk next.10 points

Basically, all these imaging findings are things we see with heart attacks and other reversible and irreversible sequelae of cardiac damage. We are very focused on mortality (people dying) but largely ignoring morbidity (serious illness). That makes sense since the horror of what is occurring is hard to fathom but I think we'll see a lot of chronic illness and disease in covid survivors (no hard data, just my own conjecture based on observations taking care of these patients). I see lung inflammation similiar to what I'd see in autoimmune and inflammatory processes in the lungs of "asymptomatic" young patients. My guess is they have a functional reserve which isn't exceeded and therefore feel "fine". It's akin to smoking. You don't really have problems with COPD and emphysema due to destruction of your lung until you've had a few years of exposure (generally, not including more acute episodes). We've had reports of young patients (under 20) with arrythmias (funny heartbeats) after full recovery. We've had neuropsychiatric issues with corresponding abnormal brain MRIs in young patients. In fact, one of the big issues is strokes in patients who are in their 20s. I worry about our children and long term effects of infection as well as even those patients who have recovered to date. We are making big, long term decisions with a minimal amount of data, a lot of wishful forecasting, and a fucking incompetent and disingenous leader who even now, can't find a tiny bit of decency and try to do the right thing and at least get out of the way of the people who should be leading our response.9 points

The hoaxers are still quite real and quite vocal. Their main talking points are that the virus is not dangerous, that the death counts are vastly overstated because every death is treated as C19, that masks don’t work and are an overreach of big government, that the media is creating the fear porn in order to shut down our economy and get the president out, and that all the restrictions are not only unnecessary, but the first step in having big government control every aspect of all of our lives. They fervently believe that all C19 talk will be off the airwaves after the November election. The other main board I’m on is filled with these folks. I can’t read a thread once it gets co-opted by them. And it’s a sports board. I don’t have FB or other social media. I can’t imagine how bad that stuff is.9 points

I'm at surfside beach, been here all weekend. It's a crowd that uh, let's just say isn't worried about Covid. Have had nothing but pleasant interactions and found everyone respectful. Shot the shit with some Houston good old boys next to us on the beach from a distance for awhile, and they were completely fine when I asked them to give us a few more feet of space when we were talking, because the wife is pregnant. Almost 100% mask compliance in stores, with a few who only had the mouth covered. The internet is like an amplifier for assholery. Real life ain't all that bad.8 points

College football needs a hard reset. Let the NFL and the semi-pros develop their NFL China, while the student athletes play college ball. That applies to the coaches too. Way too much money tied up in 'amateur' sports.7 points

Remember that Seinfeld episode where George realized that every inclination he had in life was wrong, and so he started doing and saying the exact opposite of his instincts and thoughts, and his life began to improve? You should try that.7 points

from the ny times... (channeling my inner bt here) what does "suspicious" mean to you? be honest. illegals aren't going to vote. but "brown" people will avoid voting places if they think they're going to be harassed, bullied, or intimidated, even if they're legal. look at what's going on in this country. you think it's that far out of whack for documented central/south american immigrants (or children of immigrants) to worry that they might be snatched out of line, detained, and "questioned" for a few hours while non-licensed militia types "confirm" their papers? you think they're going to show up if they have a friend or family member staying at their place who might not be documented? yeah, it's great to be white. it's great to be able to just default to "i'm not worried because i have done nothing wrong and have nothing to worry about" mode. but a lot of america doesn't think that way. especially given the current climate in certain areas of the country. like i said, the focus of these volunteers will be immigration, and their tactics will work.6 points

I love people laughing. I guess nobody has ever negotiated here. They asked for a shitload and you can bet your ass they’ll land in the middle. That’s a huge landing zone but the point stands, they’ll get a hell of a lot more than they have now. And you better believe the PAC commish will make less 5 yrs from now than he makes today.6 points

It is ironic. Here is what real responsible leadership looks like during a pandemic They spiked up to 671 cases in a day. They shut down the entire region. They’ve only had 123 deaths. You know, because they give a shit about people dying. The US will not be stronger than before until you’re gone. The US had 58K cases yesterday and 1200 deaths. The pandemic is running unchecked in the US.6 points

I posted this on the medical thread a few days ago... My wife’s 16 year old cousin had to go to ER last night with atrial fibrillation. He was just released and it was determine he had cardiac artery swelling due to a prior undiagnosed COVID-19 infection. Now he has to wear a heart monitor for at least the next 30 days and be a complete shut in to prevent another C19 infection. He was perfectly healthy prior to this. But kids will be fine.6 points

Some of those southern universities are just now shedding their confederate flags, too. Think that the mindset has been changed? I've already talked about the education but if athletes are really interested in what the university means to the community or provides them, take a look off campus at all the opportunities. The first thing students and athletes with aspirations do in Arkansas when they graduate is leave Arkansas, permanently. That's how cool Arkansas is. Same applies to Bama, Missouri, etc. Those places aren't on anybody's vacation lists. Nobody says I'd like to see the world and that's why I'm going to Arkansas. Which is why they break out the whores. Besides, do you really want to see the same thots used for every recruit visit? Disgusting. And there's no shortage of females at Texas. They're smart, and check out the women playing volleyball/tennis/basketball/soccer--great athletes from all over the world--same as the student body. I can't imagine a planet where it was difficult for Vince Young, Jamaal Charles, Benson, too many to list, had difficulty meeting women at UT. Please keep posting, I enjoy revisiting the pride I have being a Longhorn up here on the East Coast.6 points

My father in law has it. He is in his 60s and doctor in Miami. Everyone wanted him to stay home but he kept working since it was “his duty”. He has had trouble breathing and a constant 102 fever but tested negative for covid at first so they wouldn’t admit him in the hospital for an X-ray or treatment. The hospitals are that packed. My mother in law knows somebody who runs a “X-ray at home business” for the elderly where they come to your house to take an X-ray. In my FiLs own words, his “lungs looked like shit”. Hospital still wouldn’t take him. His breathing got so bad that they found a family friend who has oxygen tanks and he started self medicating with oxygen. Well, he collapsed in the shower last night and was rushed to the hospital again. Oxygen was in the 40s. They still wouldn’t admit him until the nurse started screaming at the bureaucrat who is in charge of checking people in. At midnight he tested positive finally (3rd or 4th test) and is currently on a respirator. My in-laws are relatively wealthy and well connected I can’t imagine being poor in the same condition im tearing up now. I really want my 5 month old daughter to grow up knowing her abuelo. He is a great man. fled his homeland after getting word the secret police were after him for handing out political cartoons. Came to American with nothing, saving up all his money for six years to get his wife and young children over here out starvation. Basically the American dream. After all that sacrifice his life is finally going well. His first three grandchildren were born in the last 10 months. Now this happens. Life isn’t fair, Is it?6 points

To expound a little bit, because why not, if that bruise is from a needle and not a spontaneous old person bruise, it most resembles the kind of hematoma that forms after a tourniquet is tied and a butterfly needle is used to draw blood. IVs don't usually make bruises that big. Hands are very commonly used for that type of stick in elderly people because the veins tend to be more superficial and easier to secure and hit than the typical AC (elbow) vein, which is what we tend to go for on younger people or in emergencies.5 points

This is the thing, Republicans are team over everything. Always. So they assume since they are still supporting trump after allegations of child rape that democrats must also stick with Clinton despite allegations of child rape. The difference is that rational people know that child rape is wrong and won’t support anyone who is partaking in child rape. Republicans let their desire for team wins overcome their rationality, and just assume that since it happened to them it happened to everyone else too. Just once, Republicans, try to put yourself into another person’s shoes and remember what rational thought is like.5 points

yeah you are right, Big 12 is the weakest.. the attendance is weaker than the PAC and ACC. Schools are literally operating in the red unlike the powerful PAC conference. We should hope and pray that Larry Scott and his new LA Times power merger saves us from the lowly Big 12 conference.5 points
