Not sure where to post this, but @closetojumping update: He’s alive and...alive. I’m not sure we can say well. This motherfucker played the entire round of golf masked up like he was about to rob a liquor store. When we paused to let other people play through our group he made a point several times of busting out of the bushes to scare the fuck out of other golfers and field marshals. He takes his virtue signaling up to 11. Anyway, he said he hasn’t been able to engage mentally in football because of the uncertainty of everything, and unless he can get 100% invested it just doesn’t hold his interest. He’s stopped watching the astros too. I suspect he’ll be back after a couple of games are played. Or he’ll be dead because he walked into a fucking gas station like that.22 points

Having children chant in monotone voices a pledge of allegiance to a flag is probably the creepiest "normal" thing we do in this country.21 points

I’m starting to think the reason Ewers and Herman have hit it off is because they are both shape shifters. Every time I see Ewers I hardly recognize him. He looks completely different in every photo.16 points

Ear to the streets — Early in the week, I was informed that an informal workout was being put together by Quinn Ewers with a few top prospects in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. We were told we could attend the event under the condition of keeping it quiet and not disclosing the location. The event was organized by Ewers in an effort to work out with some of the top pass-catchers in his class and do some recruiting. The group came together tonight, and Ewers was joined by Texas commit Phaizon Wilson and Texas targets Armani Winfield and Evan Stewart. — It was a bit funny watching all the guys get to know each other. Wilson and Ewers have been talking a lot in the last week, but neither really knew what the other had as a skillset. After the workout was done, Wilson was blown away by the way Ewers threw the ball. He kept marveling at how effortless it was for Ewers to put it right on the money in any kind of situation. Ewers was also pleased with how big of a target Wilson was and the way he caught the ball. —The guys went through the route tree running a variety of different looks for Ewers to throw to. The early going was pinpoint accuracy and zip on stops, slants and comebacks, but the main event was the deep post. On five straight throws, Ewers threw picture-perfect deep balls from 50-yards out dropping them right over the shoulder and in-stride with the receiver. At one point, Winfield yelled "Oh my God, it's so pretty," while running a route watching the ball in the air. The deep accuracy was as impressive as any quarterback I've ever seen. — Winfield and Ewers were somewhat familiar with one another. Southlake Carroll beat Lewisville 84-6 last season, and Ewers made sure to get a few jokes off about that. Winfield is really polished as a wideout and he's filling out in his upper body. Sometimes I have to remember that I've known him since he was a freshman, and I've watched him physically develop over the last four years. Winfield is probably the most natural receiver of the group with great route-running ability and exceptional hands. It's one thing to see Ewers work from the other sideline, but Winfield got a new appreciation being on the other end of the pass. While I don't sense anything imminent with him as of now, I feel really good about my 247Sports Crystal Ball pick in favor of Texas. 6COMMENTS — The best interaction of the night was watching Ewers and Evan Stewart get to know each other. They had only talked before this, but they blew each other away many times. Stewart is one of the fastest players in the country, and he was very pleased that Ewers could hit him in stride instead of underthrowing him as many others do. Stewart showed off insane athleticism and speed changing gears fluidly through breaks and a vertical that blew everyone away. Ewers' jaw dropped when he saw Stewart elevate one time to catch a touchdown pass. They seemed like two people who had only heard of each other eyeing one another from across the room. Stewart really likes Texas, and he talks with Jay Valai more than anyone. That said, he wants to enjoy his recruitment and take his time. I don't get the sense he's ready to shut anything down. — I saw Ewers during the spring and he looked like he was carrying a lot of burden from his recruitment. He's never been ungrateful about it, but it can take its toll on a kid. Seeing him today, he was as light as a feather. The weight was really off of his shoulders and he was having fun with everything. It was awesome to see him recruiting in action. He's not over the top about it, but he is effective. He has the type of personality that can thrive in any situation, and his skills speak for themselves. Talking with him, it was clear that Texas was his dream school and he didn't want to miss the opportunity to commit there. I can't see the future, but barring anything crazy, I don't think there's anything to worry about with his recruitment.10 points

the two projected hurricanes that are predicted to make landfall on the Gulf coast early next week...in the middle of the RNC i might add...are going to send Trump over the cliff. the wailing and gnashing of teeth when he makes himself into a victim for low ratings and attention diverted away from the convention will lead to a all-time fucked up federal response x2 because of his anger. and it’ll all be front and center...and he’ll blame the Dems for it all. ima make a gumbo and watch it all gloriously unfold.8 points

Well, I personally witnessed (early 2000's) our punters warming up pregame and a band director throwing a tantrum because they were kicking too close to where the band was performing and demanding that the punters stop warming up until the band was done with their performance. Student manager responds with "we're here to win a football game, not a sweepstakes". Everyone laughs. Band director cries to Deloss and student manager has to "meet" with Deloss the next week. He throws on a suit and heads to the big guy's office and Deloss basically tells him something to the effect of 'we both know this is bullshit but try not to piss the band off so I don't have to deal with this nonsense". Look, I like and appreciate the band as much as the next guy, but know your fucking role. And your role is absolutely not calling up the press and inserting yourself into this fucking controversy after a successful negotiation with the parties that matter, i.e., the student athletes playing the damn game.8 points

So I decided watch some highlights on Burton, Stewart, Winfield, and tried to find footage on Wilson. 1. Burton- This guy is the real deal. Herman needs to have every coach on this recruitment. Cannot let another Garrett Wilson situation happen. He’s got it all. Strong hands and very good route runner. Good speed and dangerous with the ball on his hands. He looks like Jeudy out there, maybe not as elite of a route runner but his film looks very similar with how he plays. His listed height is 6’0 but he looks taller on film. 2. Stewart- He looks like he’s getting shot out of a cannon when the ball snaps. He has elite speed. Does very well on jet sweeps and would probably play Z in our offense. Listed height is 6’0 but he looks more like 5’10 on film. He looks like Marquise Brown to me. 3. Armani Winfield- Seems to do everything well as a WR. Good speed, good hands, silky smooth route runner. He reminds me of Joshua Moore but not as skinny coming out of high school. He looks like our H. 4. Phaison Wilson- I couldn’t find much tape on him just a few plays where he’s just bigger than everyone and wins. He looks like a college WR right now with his size. I’d like to see more tape on him. Bama wanted him and they seem to know a thing or two about WRs lately. Will probably play X at Texas or could grow into a TE. If we can get all 4, then wow. This would be on par with the 2018 DB haul. Hopefully add in Jaydon Blue and if we can land Wheaton/LJ.... Ewers will have some of the best skill players in the nation to throw to. I would love to have Wheaton’s speed and Stewart’s speed on the field at the same time.7 points

We should probably slow the testing down. By testing these folks we are driving the number of positives up. It’s common sense. Can we just get back to playing football?7 points

I really love this thread and have had time to think since my first response and want to say more but not sure what to say. Is it ok to say I love Christ but hate church? I mean I go and I will credit my own church in that they do not judge people but I see so many people that call themselves Christians and I want to cringe. It also then makes me wonder what my church members are doing when I don’t see? That also makes me wonder am I being a hypocrite for judging people who judge people when the Bible is against condemnation? I don’t know where else to put this but I feel like typing. I have posted before that my father attempted suicide January 26th 2016 and didn’t accomplish what he wanted to accomplish. He now resides in a home where he is blind and has the mental capacity of a 5 year old. For the first 7 months I was driving 5 hours one way to see him every weekend. Some visits were for an hour and sometimes he was asleep but I had to go see him as his only child. Also, on the same day my father chose his path my stepfather died of cancer. He was an incredible man who was awarded a Purple Heart. He treated my mother like a queen and was a true prince of a man. I watched him fight for over a year a fight that we all knew he would lose. It was hell and completely unfair. I will say during that day that I became closer to God. I never once said why me. I do remember saying I know God will not give me more than I can handle but I really wish he didn’t trust me so much. I will now fast forward 4 years to now. I posted about surviving an F4 tornado on Easter Sunday. The whole day I had a bad feeling seeing that the storms were coming from the south as that is always bad in Tennessee. Long story short is we got into the hallway bath just in time and surrendered to God. We could see the roof about to break away from the house and I told my wife we have done all we can do and it’s out of our hands. It was over in 10 seconds but really humbled us. Our anniversary was a few weeks later and things were pretty much back to normal. Things are going good and we both have great jos and friends. I am even lucky enough to snag a little muff on our anniversary. Things continue to roll on for about 6 weeks and everything is great. We are happy and our dogs are healthy and what more could we want? I have always wanted children and my wife always said she didn’t. I thought it was a phase and she would snap out of it but as the years went on I learned that it might not be a phase and what a shame it would be as I have seen how well she treats our pups and what a phenomenal mother she would be. I had actually started to build some resentment but I kept it buried. I thought my wife didn’t want kids because she thought she couldn’t have kids. She had some issues and a surgery back in 2016 ( same year of dad and stepdad) and we were told we should let the dream of kids go. Well, one week in May on Wednesday I woke up around 2 am to let the dogs out ( ruff, ruff, ruff) and couldn’t get back to sleep and my mind started wondering. I started thinking about children and how it obviously wasn’t going to happen and I surrendered myself to God and said I accept what you give me and I am thankful for what I have with my wife. I stayed that Saturday night at the lake and when I came home the next morning I noticed my wife following me around the house. I get to my closet and there is a book in it. The book was Your Baby’s First Words Will Be Dadda. I didn’t get it at first and was annoyed that it was in my way but then I see her with big tears in her eyes and she says “You’re going to be a daddy”. I fall to my knees with joy as I cannot believe I will be a first time dad at 40! I make the mistake of looking up miscarriage stats and immediatly go down a dark road thinking I got my hopes up for nothing. I am a nervous wreck for 2 weeks and I cannot sleep or eat but my wife is calm and not worried. She has such a calming grace about her during this time. We go to doctor and get the due date. The date is the same day of my father and step father. We both start crying and I finally feel like this will happen. I just don’t think it’s a coincidence. You can call me a sheep or whatever but I thankful for the life God has given me and I will praise him in the good times and in the bad. We are well aware the rug could be pulled out from us at any moment but I will give God the glory either way. We are at 19 weeks and I would appreciate any and all prayers!7 points

George Brett is everything good and right in America...he’s America personified. played 3rd...pine tarred his bat because why not?...winked when it was done...chewed Levi and CottonBol...shits his pants 2 to 3 times a year...short hair. he transcends political leanings, and i honestly don’t give a fuck what anyone says. i want George Brett to deliver my eulogy...with a big wad of terbacky tucked in cheek. i don’t want him to say fuck all about me...i simply want him to tell stories about his time in MLB. long live George Brett, long love Crash Davis, long live every good and wise and salty and funny motherfucker in America.6 points

My son turns 7 in October, and this kinda stuff breaks my heart...it’s the exact opposite of what we are trying to teach my boy (and his little sister as she gets older). We have age-appropriate kids books regarding inclusion, diversity and examples of how the world is full of different people...and I still don’t think I’d involve him in any political endeavor as I’d be worried he wouldn't understand nuance or how divisive our views can be with some people in Texas, and it’s not his job to change hearts/minds at that age. All that 7yo probably fully understands is how advocating for this wall thing makes his parents happy, has other adults fawning over him and is ecstatic to feel important. He may not even understand the intention behind that wall, or even worse he’s being indoctrinated by adults to fear inclusion and blame your own problems on outsiders you’ve never met. What about the stuttering boy who is also being used in politics? Well you’d certainly have a point...however I’d argue that he is almost twice the age of the wall kid, is being taught that he can overcome steep challenges with perseverance, that it’s ok to be different, everyone has their own strengths/weaknesses and hopefully to one day give back to the world the compassion others have shown you as you grow along the way. Two very different messages for two kids at very different development stages. One is being taught to fear others, and one is being taught to work your own problems with a little help from others. /rant over6 points

Does the lawnmower try and tell me about everything happening in her office, everything her mother is up to, all the annoying shit her pain-in-the-ass brother is doing, or the latest article on pintrest/facebook/instagram? Nope. Compared to all of that, the lawnmower engine is like a chorus of angels softly singing me a lullaby.5 points
