I'll be passing through San Angelo tomorrow to help my mom out in planning my dad's funeral. He died earlier today at the age of 83 from Covid following a miserable three-week struggle in the hospital. It was a really shitty way to go and not the peaceful bed death surrounded by family/friends that we all wish for.19 points

Reporter: I'm here with a former co-worker, can you tell me what kind of person was he? Former Co-Worker: Sure, I remember him. He was a loner, but a real hard worker. I mean, he was the first one on his shift at work, and the last one to go home. Reporter: Do you believe he blew up the AT&T building? Former Co-Worker: Oh, yes, definitely. Thats all he talked about. I remember one day I says, uh, hey man, why are you working so hard? He says, Cause I'm saving up to buy an RV and some explosives, so I can blow up the AT&T building. Reporter: I'm here with a convenience store employee who saw him often, can you tell me what kind of person was he? Convenience Store Employee: He was a quiet guy, a kind of a loner. But real polite. He always had exact change, and he always asked how my family was. Nice guy. Reporter: Do you believe he blew up the AT&T building? Convenience Store Employee: Oh, yes, definitely. Thats all he ever talked about. Why, just the other day, he came in and he says, Raj, I need some of those energy drinks, I'm loading up my RV with explosives to blow up the AT&T building, and I'm really tired. Reporter: I'm here with a neighbor, can you tell me what kind of person was he? Neighbor: He was a loner, and a quiet man. He attended church, and Sunday School. I remember he was always very polite. Reporter: Do you believe he blew up the AT&T building? Neighbor: Oh, yes. Definitely. Thats all he ever talked about. Reporter: I'm here with a former classmate, can you tell me what kind of person was he? Former Classmate: He was a bit of a loner, he was a member of the A/V club, the chemistry club, and the future RV owners club. Reporter: Do you believe he blew up the AT&T building? Former Classmate: Oh yeah, all he ever talked about during lunch, was his dream one day to save up enough to buy an RV, fill it with explosives, and blow up the AT&T building. Reporter: Its no wonder that his classmates chose him, "Most Likely to Blow Up the AT&T Building With an RV"14 points

RIP young man. Too soon...too soon. For those with children...spend the time to constantly revisit these rules: Never point a gun at something you're not willing to destroy (animate or inanimate), Treat every gun as if it is always loaded, Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target, Be certain of your target. We practice these principles even with NERF guns in our home.13 points

I have a very close friend who is an EMT in the Atlanta area. She's not one of those overly obese EMTs, but she does have comorbidities like heart murmur and susceptibility to bronchitis and pneumonia. She's a single mom, with no spousal support (long story). In April she was coming off pneumonia, and they told her to come in before her doctor released her. She was in the ambulance during the race protests. Some might remember that, had a brick thrown through her window into her lap. Her employers are a for profit company. They provided scant to no PPE. She finally caught Covid in late August. 8 days at home, 10 in hospital, another 10 and home and she was threatened with losing her job if she didn't return. She had no sick time left, and her copay for her Covid visit was $1,000 after the insurance. Employer offered no assistance with this and offered no help in advances or anything to help with the bills piling up. Working a lot of double shifts through great pain during breathing, and the help of some friends, she got caught up enough to only be a month behind, and was closing that. Two weeks ago she got sick again, quickly turned into double pneumonia and back in the hospital. No help from employers. Still there. On a bipap system, maybe even a ventilator by now, since our communication is spotty due to her being in and out and dependent on hospital wifi, since her phone was cut off. I say all that to point out the rage I feel for asses like McConnell who are fighting so hard to limit or completely nullify any liability these corporations have for how they treat their employees be they medical folks, first responders, meat packers, stockers and other front line workers. How they killed off any front line hazard duty bonus pay. Fuck these assholes who are getting rich off of this, while so many others are just trying to survive, literally. To keep a roof over their family's heads and bellies with food, much less think about a christmas present. They bitch about $2000, but there was a big article last week that stated that the top echelon of billionaires could write each and every American a $3000 check right now, and still be richer than they were when all this started in April. How the fuck is that even acceptable. But these damn charlatans keep dancing to the rich organ grinders tune, like their paid fucking monkeys in their little MAGA hats. Rant over, fuck 2020. No good came of this year. https://www.businessinsider.com/billionaires-net-worths-have-grown-to-4-trillion-during-pandemic-2020-1213 points

Am I supposed to feel some sort of angst or shame over calling the guy out for what he did? He committed under false pretenses, and successfully raised money doing it, drained the GoFundMe, decommitted, talked shit about Texas to other recruits and went to Utah. The fact that he “accidentally shot himself” isn’t going to sway my opinion. I’m merely left with the expectation that a relative of his will be by shortly to announce a GoFundMe to pay for his funeral. I don’t remember doing this but ... nailed it.13 points

I am no cook. However, like any god-fearing American, I hate Herman and see Urban “This is The Way” Meyer as our only hope so I read this thread which of course means seeing all of you surly bastard’s delectable creations. So I get a smoker and a Costco brisket for xmas eve and summon the courage to attempt my first ever brisket. I follow the tips I learn on this thread religiously. My only hope is I don’t have an MI before next football season!13 points

So, believe it or not, more than a couple of readers have sent me messages/emails suggesting that I run for Cornyn's seat in six years. It's a crazy idea. But when I get such messages in the future, I'm just going to respond with photos of a fabulous brisket that I smoked and just ask "how hard could it be?"10 points

When Aaron Rodgers dies, are we going to combine it with a thread about the 2004 Cal/Southern Miss game?8 points

I was hoping Cornyn's disgusting brisket had made it over here and I am not disappoint. My favorite WW memory is when I was ~14 yo they filmed an episode scene at "my" tennis club and I was leaning up against the chain link fence basically next to Lynda checking her out and I could have sworn I saw a pube sticking out of her leotard. For some reason that was meaningful to me as a 14 yo.8 points

Braised veal linguine. Start by making a purée of onion, carrot, garlic, parsley, tomatoes, and tomato paste. Throw some panchetta in the pot, and take out when it starts to crisp. Season the veal shanks with salt and pepper, dredge in flour, and brown in the pot. When the veal is browned, add the purée, red wine, and beef broth, and simmer that bitch for almost three hours. Then debone the veal, toss it back in the pot, and add the linguine. Get laid. (Sorry, no pics of last step.)7 points

Kimberly used to be very pretty when she was with Newsom. And it's not age.... it's like the ugly in her soul manifesting itself. She had delicate features and now she's coarse and vulgar -- broadened, flat coke nose; inflated lips; cheesy Kardashian-style weave. She looks like what she essentially is now -- a mafia girlfriend. Same with Maria Bartiromo. I know it's not cool to pick apart people's looks, but the transformations are remarkable.6 points

We need a worst of 2020. Still having Tom Herman at the beginning and at the end. WW84 Losing EVH to the eternal transfer portal And seeing this abomination It looks like they were serving something they found in a Chinese wet market6 points

Since my wife is the best I now have my first new revolver in over a decade. This 460 will be my Alaska bear gun so I can quit borrowing my BIL’s 44. But since everything is terrible I’m waiting a week to get ammo unless I luck into some locally in Austin. My plan is to start with some 45 colt and work up to the real deal before practicing on a whitetail from my tree stand.6 points

(I actually looked this up to make sure I remembered correctly) In 2013, Texas A&M got free wins against Rice, Sam, and SMU. They won 5 more games against unranked SEC foes. They played 4 ranked SEC foes and lost them all. Add it up and aggy went 8-4 in the vaunted SEC, which is so impressive that they counted as a quality win for the four good teams that they went 0-4 against. Then they beat Duke 52-48 in their bowl game. Because, ya know, aggy was so good. That's a nice little microcosm of the S-E-C, S-E-C scam that's been running for about 15 years now.6 points
