  2. My dad finally stopped watching fox news about a month ago. Today, he considers himself apolitical, sort of a both sideser, which is dramatic progress when you think about it. We had a decent conversation that involved politics for the first time in 4 years or so. The one thing that changed? I challenged him to get off fox news, start reading only centric sources that were only fact-based, and check every source with a bias checker before even reading it. He was almost a pepper. He still has about 5 shelves in his garage with canned goods, but it has dwindled down to half of what it was... and he's disgusted with the Jan 6 responses to trumps cult of personality. The man was a psychologist and a minister, and just now seems unplugged from fundamental thought that religion has led him to, coupled with trumpism. I think these small steps are starting to work around the country.

  6. As we wrap up the first week of full pads, full speed practice I thought it would be a good time to give our surly readers something to digest over the weekend and going into next week. In true 9.95er fashion, I'm going to make up all kinds of things and nothing, I mean nothing in this post is going to be worth a damn as far as insider information is concerned, but it's going to get your blood pumping and make you think you know a lot more than anyone actually does about what is going on in spring practice. That being said, lets start here. I mean wow is all I can say. Can Sark change his entire offense to just be punting on first down every time? I am pretty sure that after watching this video even when punting on first down that the team. Just kidding - in all seriousness did you see how fun they have made running sprints in practice? D'Shawn Jamison is a grown ass man, and it looks like his teammates are loving what they are seeing. One common thread that we can see from the absolute control that LHN and Longhorn Social Media has put out is the level of physicality in practice is among the highest we've ever been able to witness. No "Country Club" atmosphere to be seen. There is also a strange aura glowing around each of the players as they have media availability. It's a mix of excitement, nerves, trust and swagger that combine into something that gives us a glimpse into how the leaders are perceiving this coaching staff. There is a common theme in every one of the players and what they say, Faith. Something that is even stronger than trust is the foundation that is being laid out by the staff right now and the more we see the players trusting their teammates, their coaches and themselves the stronger that faith will become. Other things and happenings, we have a sighting of Hudson Card's teeny tiny hands, slangin' what seem to be perfect spirals down field. We get glimpses of passes down field from snaps from inside the program like this one from Josh Moore's snapchat: The defensive side of the ball is getting adjusted to it's new scheme, but what is really impressive is how freakish the athletes are and how quick they are to commit to changing their bodies or positions in order to win. Keondre Coburn is now on record talking about what his playing weight needs to be and his goal is to stay on the field for as many snaps as possible without being tired or having to rotate out. We have Tyler Owens shifting around trying out different positions. We have Jacoby Jones flying all over the practice squad stunting on people and most unexpected of all, fresh blood from the outside, Ray Thornton being the guy stepping up to fill in Ossai's role of BAMF. There is a lot to be really excited about right now, the players know it, the fans know it, the athletic department knows it and most of all the coaches know it. I don't think Sark was expecting to have as deep and as talented of a team, I also don't think he knew how hard the key players and leaders were willing to work in order to starts. As cheesy as it sounds, one thing that really resonated with me from the completely open and transparent conversation we had with Shark McCulloch was how serious Sam was all the time. I can't help but think that mentality permeated those that remained and the way every single player talks about Sam and the void he left from a leaders perspective, they talk about the new guys that are filling that void. Speaking of voids that needed to be filled. Another exciting thing happening around the program this week has been the open invitation of some of the most successful Longhorns to step foot on the 40 acres to come back. Listen to what they have to say. There has only been a handful of times that have been this exciting in the offseason to be a Longhorn fan, we have a lot to look forward to. Build the Burnt Orange Cathedral and may we have Faith in the Longhorns once again. I'm going to leave you with my mood right now, All Gas No Brakes. Hook 'Em View full article

  9. I’m not cool with policing what women “wear to work” - that captioned outfit is perfectly fine. BUT She has made “quirky” her brand and it’s clearly her priority in order to garner attention for attention’s sake. The wigs. The message t-shirts. The curtesy thumbs down. It’s all garbage. The clothing is clearly part of it because none of it shows a sense of consistent style. She seesaws between catholic girl cosplay, Beyoncé copycatting, and weird Gattaca costuming. Her politics suck but the antics she wraps them up in suck just as bad.

  14. I have a National Parks Passport so I record the date(s) that I was there along with a stamp and, per the enclosed checklist, I have been to 70+ park properties. Some are National Parks, others are Memorials, or even National Recreational Areas, etc. Some are obviously better than others and being at one for an hour is enough and for some it requires multiple days to fully enjoy or even repeat visits. Covid has allowed me to work from "home". So, in 2020 I visited Glen Canyon NRA, Grand Canyon NP, Petrified Forest NP, Pipe Spring NM, Sunset Crater Volcano NM, Tonto NM, Walnut Canyon NM, Wupatki NM, Buffalo NR, Fort Smith NHS, Pres. Clinton Birthplace, Pea Ridge NMP, Poverty Point NM, Aztec Ruins NM, Bandelier NM, Capulin Volcano NM, El Malpais NM, El Morro NM, Pecos NHP, Petroglyph NM, Mesa Verde NP, Arches NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Canyonlands NP, Zion NP, Grand Teton NP, Yellowstone NP, Abraham Lincoln NHP, Cumberland Gap NHP, Brices Cross Roads NBS, Natchez Trace NST, and Tupelo NB. Love me some National Parks and the great outdoors that many of them offer.

  18. Vegas report: Spent a few days playing at Caesars, Bellagio, and Aria. Tables all allowed 8 players total, but unlike in prior years and with pretty hefty crowds in town I didn't have a problem ever finding my preferred spot at the end. With maybe an exception for a few hours on Thursday and early Friday, I never saw anything lower than a $25 minimum table at Caesars. Bellagio and Aria had $15 minimums every morning. The action was mostly down for the first two days, and then yesterday afternoon happened. I was down around $1,000 for the trip at this point and figured if I lost another $1,000 the afternoon/evening before I left, whatever, it was well within my budget for the trip. My wife wanted to go shopping after lunch so I walked up to an empty $25 table at Caesars and cashed in $500, a little more than my typical $200-$300 limit per session. I'd roll a point, crap out, roll a point, crap out, and finally on about my fourth roll had a point of 8 established, $25 on my odds, $30 on the 6, and only about $3 left in my stack. Basically down to my last $80 bucks for this go-around and what happened next is why I love this game so much. I proceeded to roll 3-4 points, hit various numbers and hard-ways along the way, and built my bankroll back up to about $700 or $800 before crapping out. The table was now full at this point, and I hovered right around $800-$1000 in my stack for the next 3 shooters when the dice finally got back to my end of the table to a quiet gentleman standing in the "slot" just left of the stick man. The dude then goes on one of the best rolls I've ever seen or been a part of in my life. One of my favorite plays as I've mentioned in the past on this thread is starting out rolls with $5 hard-ways, and either press or parlay them up each time they hit. On the hard 8 alone I hit at $25 once, $100 twice, and then at $150 once. I hit the hard six at $100 once and hit a hard ten at $100 twice. By the end of the roll, I had over $7,000 in my stack which was by far more than I've ever won on a single roll. I was next to shoot so figured what the hell, but crapped out within about 3 rolls and cashed in my chips for a little over $6,800. I'm sure it's not much for the Surly 1%er's but that's a damn good weekend for me.
