Nope. Discussed further below. The problem is that evidence-based reasoning (which we SHOULD favor) is skewed by......excluding necessary evidence and overemphasizing and/or falsifying OTHER evidence. How many people knew about the Tulsa Race Massacre -- and DOZENS of others -- until very recently? Evidence of facts, things that actually happened, was not just systematically repressed, but actually ERASED (microfilms of the newspaper accounts of the day were destroyed in the Tulsa libraries, for example). Repression and destruction of relevant evidence means that the evidentiary record is so incomplete and inaccurate as to be FALSE. On top of that, the evidence we DO get is often...bullshit. For decades (a century? longer?), much of the historical narrative has been of the great Lost Cause, how the civil war wasn't about slavery but state's rights, how slaves were actually treated well and were happy, and about 500,000 other buckets of utter bullshit. Seriously, I was taught a FALSE narrative of Texas' role in the war. It wasn't until I was an adult, with internet access, that I actually read the Texas Articles of Secession...and was appalled, mortified, ashamed, and more. When the evidentiary record is SO skewed that we omit or falsify actual facts, that we purposefully omit material voices (those voices are what we call "testimony" in a courtroom, and they are absolutely, 100%, EVIDENCE), then understand that what we supposedly take pride in as a society -- our objective history, analyzed with rational thinking -- is a LIE. That's what it is. It's a lie. That's a tough thing to swallow. Because, again, we were taught that the exact OPPOSITE is true -- we are the embodiment of "American Exceptionalism," and we know this, because our means of evaluating that is honest and trustworthy. There are hundreds of people buried in unmarked graves in Tulsa who tell us that is false. There are thousands of families who had their hard-earned wealth wiped out, never to recover, who tell us that is false. And stories like theirs are repeated, thousands upon thousands of times, throughout this country. Right up to today, where a 16 year old white kid busted with weed gets taken home to his parents to get a lecture, and a 16 year old black kid busted with the same amount of weed gets put into the system, and has his life completely derailed, never to fully recover (he's now a "thug" with a criminal history). We say we prize objective, evidence-based reasoning. And then we control the evidence admitted/excluded to serve the ends of our desired conclusion. That's not evidence-based reasoning. That's a show-trial, and a lie. Once you accept that, then you can start to evaluate the actual evidentiary record with an open mind.11 points

LOL. So, now not only is the virus genetically modified, but Dr. Fauci is the one that did it. Soon we'll learn that Dr. Fauci was also responsible for the holocaust, JFK's assassination, and the (fake) moon landing. You're in-fucking-sane.9 points

If we weren't relevant, he wouldn't bother making the statement at all and would find something else to talk about to maximize ratings. The very act of making the statement disproved it.9 points

I listened to Fauci and am damn glad I did. He was the only adult in the room in a time of world-changing anxiety. I did what he said early on and my family has been covid free so far. I'm glad he was around. I could not care less about the political games that have been circulating for over a year. I don't think he's perfect. But he helped me and a lot of people get through this. I'm glad he was around.8 points

One retired (and pardoned) brass nutbag does not make the military. Dozens upon dozens of current and former top brass are on record as supporting the rule of law. The US military is not going to execute a coup. To think it's even remotely possible is Brisket-level feverish wet dreams. With fewer words.8 points

i've wanted to post this in numerous threads, but there's too many that it applies to...and they aren't even all political lol some of y'all may follow The Oatmeal and have seen this. i saw it when the author first shared it several years ago. coincidentally it was shortly after i'd had a discussion with my mother that went something like this: mom: right wing bs that was demonstrably false me: "that is a lie" mom: "no it's not!" me: picks up phone to google reality... mom: "oh, don't try and get me with facts!" me: 😳 i'm sure many of y'all have had similar conversations. and obviously we all have this same conversation online daily. a couple of weeks later i saw this...i found it fascinating and it explains so much. it has caused me since to basically 'double check' myself when presented with a position counter to something i have thought, and i like to think that effort has made me a better/smarter/more critical thinker. unfortunately it also makes me think there is literally no way out of our current political discourse. these seeds have been sown and are here for good. anyway... interested to see thoughts on it... You're not going to believe what i'm about to tell you... https://theoatmeal.com/comics/believe7 points

Pretty funny how right wingers get worked about masks and what Fauci said or didn’t but they still refused to wear them anyway, so it’s masks don’t work or work but we won’t wear them anyway. so when the Rs were saying it’s just the flu and don’t listen to Fauci but now it’s we should have listened to him, which one is it. we all forget the lies from Trump or they they matter? ok who is a bigger laying sack of shit? it goes back to Dems have to be perfect and Rs can do whatever without any repercussions7 points

June update. The foliage is now providing some much needed shade, but not before some additional discoloration/fading occurred. And there is now some degree of blistering and peeling skin on the cheek, forehead, and ear/temple areas. I still think it's more likely than not that our friend makes it to Halloween 2021, but odds are slowly diminishing and it's going to be close at the end.7 points

Yet none of the Daily Texans in this thread find it too good to be true that the most visible antagonist of Trump over the past year is suddenly being revealed to be the mastermind behind the entire virus in a years-long global conspiracy. A fact only being reported by the most biased of right wing news outlets. The critical thinking skills in this country are embarrassing.6 points

The Fauci Facebook fueled hate is one of the weirder side effects of the Trump era. Just really fucking weird. I get the political machinations driving the attack but I don't understand how any functional adult could sign up for the hate wagon. You have to have a really fucking broken brain to put forth the effort to echo these talking points with passion.6 points

What the fuck are you guys talking about? They are a healthy AD away from being the overwhelming favorite in the west and I'd assume even money against anybody in the east for the title. Almost every title is impacted by injury. This year is no different. It's his turn this year. And Denver's turn. And probably Philly's turn. And when Chris Paul goes down for the count, it will be his turn again like it is every year. He's not retiring. How else would he continue his endless crusade to tell us how great he is. His management team has (I think) every significant member of the Lakers under contract. If he retires, what happens to Klutch? Who takes them seriously without the power he wields? He's two rings behind Jordan. He's going to pass Kareem while constantly reminding us he's a pass first player. He's going to keep telling everybody how he's won the most difficult titles ever while being the most persecuted person on earth. That attention whore isn't going anywhere outside of maybe Cancun to ride the banana boat for a couple of weeks this summer.6 points

None of you all see Trump's Presidency and prospects for a future presidency as more tragic and dangerous than I. Maybe Bolverk, who has a right as someone who had to sacrifice a family member to 45's ego. But since you are seriously talking about the annihilation of 74 million Trump voters, I'm out. If I let myself get caught up in what you all are projecting right now in this thread, then I will have let Donald Trump remake me in his image. I will have devolved into the evil caricature that conservatives have been painting of liberals and democrats over the past 30 years. And I will be doing more to push people to the other side than I will be to pulling them away. Maybe time will prove that there was no other way. In that case, I hope you all survive (you won't) and that you win (actually I'll probably be team meteor at that point). Until then, vaya con dios!6 points

My most recent cab ride was the best I've had in 30+ years. Clean car, friendly driver, and reasonable fare. I think cabs are slowly evolving in areas where ride sharing has been allowed to hit them where it hurts. I prefer Uber/Lyft but am willing to take a cab when necessary. As I tell my wife every time she starts to bitch about surge pricing or long wait times. "We can always walk - it's your call.....what's it worth to avoid that, because that's what we're paying for?" She loves that! I know because she doesn't speak to me for a few hours after I say it. Obviously she is silently pondering my brilliance and her good fortune in marrying me.6 points

I've only seen Luna get truly pissed off once. Intact male lab at the dog park was trying to hump her and wouldn't give up. She growled at his first attempt, snapped at his second, then went full Cujo with the third. Her fur stuck out like a porcupine and her head turned into solid fangs. She drove him into the dirt, pinned him down, then growled in his face with teeth bared. All in the span of about a second It was pants shitting terrifying. Every person and dog was was frozen still. Called her off and she bounded to me like nothing happened. Turned to look as we were leaving and the male was still laying where she left him covered in his own piss.6 points
