I don't really know what to say anymore tbh. What happened last night is hard to put into words for anyone who hasn't worked in a hospital healthcare setting. Just unreal. Everyone is getting fucked. Patients, staff, family, everyone. Hard decisions are having to be made, and they aren't even related to COVID, but COVID demanded they be made. This can't continue for long. It's not sustainable. Things are starting to crack. We've got a few tricks left to try and patch the holes in the dam, but will it actually make a difference in time? Everything escalated so quickly; I don't even remember what last week was like. Hard decisions are already being made. Please get vaccinated. Please don't engage in dangerous activities. Please take your BP meds. Please take your insulin. If you can't get the meds you need, please beg your doctor or your pharmacist or whomever had access to those meds. We can't properly take care of you in the hospital right now. Or at least your chances of "properly" being taken care of are much much less than they were a month ago. Maybe you'll get lucky and be given to a nurse who isn't already covered shit and blood and tragedy and has a spark of life left in them. Maybe your family member will be that lucky. Or maybe you/they'll get a FEMA nurse or traveler who has had literally one shift of orientation before being let loose on their own (for 3x the pay of your local nurses, who oriented them). I seem to be really fucking bitter about that?? I hope it's Food Truck Friday night tonight. I don't have too high of a hope, but I need something other than what I've been drinking this morning. Which is a lot.53 points

Welp, got the call last night that I've been expecting and dreading since this whole shitshow started - my mom and dad both tested positive yesterday. Both unvaxxed, mom is in good health, dad is 70 y.o., overweight, has emphysema, still hits the lung darts and has had some heart issues within the last few years. Mom got it at an exercise class last Thursday, started feeling shitty on Sunday and has been in bed most of the week. Dad has no symptoms yet but both of them tested positive yesterday. The way they've approached Covid has been a huge source of tension in our family pretty much the entire time. I pleaded, begged, yelled, cussed at them, etc. to get the jab, but they wouldn't do it. They check all the nutter boxes - talked up and maybe took HCQ, resisted wearing masks, bragged to me this summer about finding a "holistic" doctor to give them Ivermectin and got mad at me when (pre-vax) I didn't want to take my family to large family gatherings with people that I knew were being careless. The hell of it is, my pops told me that after they tested positive yesterday that they somehow got their hands on and took the antibody treatment. He reluctantly admitted to me that it wasn't FDA approved and was experimental, but has shown good results according to people they talked to. What the fucking fuck!? The vax is scary, will magnetize your arm, isn't approved, was rushed, whatever, but the antibody treatment when your chickens finally come home to roost is just A-O-Fucking-K!? They live in a small town that doesn't have the capabilities to treat someone crashing with Covid, so I don't know where they will go if things go pear-shaped. My hope is that pops getting the antibody treatment before symptoms might save his ass. I don't really know how effective they are, but it certainly can't hurt. They've got a pulse Ox and are monitoring their levels, so far so good. I'm so fucking bitter this morning but am trying my best to be stoic. The echo chamber of BS is very real and very dangerous.49 points

My 13-year-old son got his second shot today. Now everyone in the house is vaccinated except for my immunocompromised daughter who can't get the vaccine. But we're still extremely worried. My wife is a school nurse and classes start next week. The only saving grace right now is that my daughter gets regular IVIg for maintenance of her autoimmune encephalitis. And that's why when she got COVID in April she ended up okay. But now our lives are a constant battle to keep her at the top of the list for IVIg treatments as the medical community has started to prioritize COVID cases over maintenance patients. So far her doctors have won each battle but we never know when they'll lose. Get the vaccine for those who can't. Thanks in advance.26 points

We are so fucked. I just checked the roster and we have zero players on defense who will still be on the team in 2028. Huge hole in the roster that Sark needs to fix ASAP.25 points

Y’all are so awesome! Hang tough trauma babe! It’s SO bad y’all. I just got home. 14 hour days are killing me. Spent the week revamping our testing services and got 5 new sites rolled out today. We conducted almost 700 tests today. I bet a good half of them were kids. I had to excuse myself for a mini breakdown. I just took a double dose of Valium and plan to pass out for about 18 hours. PLEASE be careful. Keep your kids home if you can. This shit hasn’t even come close to peaking. And on deck for next week? Commandeering part of our parking deck for triage and overflow ICU beds. If COVID doesn’t get me, exhaustion and despair just might. God - my exhaustion is the only thing keeping my rage at bay and going full Michael Douglas in “Falling Down” on the selfish morons surrounding me.17 points

I'm not going to say hang in there because you are. Instead I'll tell you a story. 4 years ago I got appendicitis and wound up in the emergency room of The Heart hospital. I was really scared. I'd never been under general anesthesia or had an operation of any kind. I'm also terrified of hospitals. A nurse noticed I was kind of freaking out when she checked on me, leaned in close in a comforting but borderline flirty way, and said, "I know you are scared, but this is the Heart Hospital. You are by far the healthiest person in this building. You're in good shape, you can breath, you're not all swollen up with edema and everything other than your appendix mostly works. It's our pleasure to take care of you, and I'd rather be in here with you than anywhere else in this building." And just like that, my worry and anxiety stopped cold. Ended. Simply because a nurse made me feel like my situation, which was the most important thing in the world to me in that moment, was also the most important thing to the people who were taking care of me (even thought that wasn't really true). Look, I know the situation is completely different. And I know that you are struggling mightily to even do the basics to take care of yourself. I know that you can't properly care for anybody right now. But I hope you know that a large majority of the people you work with are grateful for the care you, personally, provide, and that you are living a life of great positive consequence even when it feels like you are overtaken by events. It doesn't make it easier, but this time will be a memory soon enough. When it is a memory, make sure you get the help you need to process it. Nobody's blame you for taking this one on the chin.16 points

Omeire is probably gone for the season. That will be the same knee getting blown out twice. He ran and played like a baby giraffe in high school. His speed and quickness measurements before his injuries were ... not good coming out of high school. He was a Tom Herman Special, a guy that could take up space and might catch passes against the sideline. That class' version of Malcolm Epps. Surly recruiting dorks, myself included, if not leading it, hated the take versus alternative choices at the time and low expectations were set. Then last summer the reports, from $9.95ers that everyone here reads religiously yet mocks violently, started putting out the feed from Carrington and Herman that Omeire "is blowing up" at summer workouts. Hype train somehow starts. Then knee gets blown out. We've never heard a positive word since and the new staff certainly hasn't been singing any praises at any point. This seems like a zero impact issue without all of the noise. Bad fit for this offense, good luck elsewhere in the future. Also, is this thread somehow now attempting to spin the defensive experience on the depth chart into some sort of concern? Is that happening? It seems more logical to stick with handwringing about the hobo bag full of WR depth and the two JAGs attempting to win the starting QB spot.16 points

Hold tight, TB. Know that your effort is appreciated -- maybe not by the morons who are causing this, but by the rest of us, it really is. And we're angry FOR you. We'll carry that anger torch for a while. You just do what you gotta do to, you know, save human lives -- it's what you do. And do whatever you have to do to keep yourself going through the process. When this surge passes, and you all can come up for air, I'll commit to putting the first $100 towards a bar tab for you and any of your colleagues anywhere you want.15 points

When I read that Abbott tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, I didn't see it as karma, like so many others did. I felt no schadenfreude. I didn't even find it galling that Abbott, who is asymptomatic and fully vaccinated, would receive monoclonal antibody treatment. He definitely doesn’t post here.14 points

Thank you for all of the kind words and offers to get me blitzed. I may take y'all up on that if we make it through to the other side. I have bad news: it is NOT Food Truck Friday and we're also short six nurses and four respiratory therapists tonight. 28/30 of our ICU COVID patients are on vents, and 14/30 of our patients in the surgical ICU are on vents. Absolutely unprecedented. I'm also a little hung over13 points

Quick note that no one may actually benefit from: If you know of anyone in the Centex area who lacks legal documentation for their presence in the US, who is hesitant to go get a shot for immigration reasons, please PM me. I can get them dosed up no questions asked. My wife will put a shot in anyone’s arm even without any ID/verification (except kids that may be too young).11 points

I respected Mack. I thank him for his contribution but after we "lost" to Bama in 2009 Mack fucked us. We were ahead of the game in terms of offense, but no he decided to change the direction of the program by trying to be a run first team. "More like Bama" he said. The thing is more offense was spreading to the SEC and in short order Saban incorporated more of the future, what we were already doing, and we took a step back. The rest is history. Terrible decision. For that above all he deserved to be fired.10 points
