I didn’t see it started. The fall camp is nothing but beer talk. We’ve got our QB named. We are healthy-ish. We have substantial talent at every level on the defense. We have a plus offensive line (probably) We have the best RB room in college football Our TE’s are now sponsored by Surly- what could possibly go wrong there I’d rather not talk about the WR core- but presumably Sark can scheme around that and there’s always Kai Money We have a staff not run by a room temperature moron or a sociopath, or a burn out who was coasting on the fumes of a previous decades good work The line is texas -8 and the over under is 58 I say we fuck them up and win by 21 on our way to the biggest surprise season since Shock The Nation in 1990 What a glorious week. Rejoice- game week is upon us44 points

I’ve probably wasted hours over the years scanning through AM stations looking for sports to listen to when on a drive and it usually goes like the ‘flipping tv channels in the hotel’ scene in European Vacation except it’s: *STATIC* ’Jesus!!’ ’They want to take your guns and give them to Hilary!’ *incredibly loud Tejano music* ’The score is 94-6 to start the second half’ ’AOC demanding mandatory abortions’ *sounds of Rangers losing* ‘We will not teach the devils race theory in…’ ’And the Lord said…’ ‘Trump was right in…’ ’Call meh now for yer free reedun’26 points

I made a thing for this thread, better than the shitty B1G version upthread. If you like it maybe make it into a new thread, I'm too new. I included a few easter eggs for Surly.17 points

Yeah man. A bunch of 3 stars and leftover whatever recruits are so good. They will match up awesome against our 4 and 5 stars that actually have coaches with brains. Like get the fuck out of here with the Louisiana is good hot takes.17 points

I am sitting in my SUV in the driveway, charging my phone, smoking my 1:1 CBD/THC vape and having my next-to-last cold beer. Already used app to initiate State Farm claim. My shingles no longer live on my roof. And the back neighbor psycho dogs who historically want to kill me when I am in my yard, now can. Fence is kaput. I have a few generators to share with neighbors. Glad I flew home yesterday. The 5-8 pm show was impressive. The day will show how fucked we are. Not really. Louisiana is 6 X more than Katrina fucked right now. Less dead, to be sure. But this was a fucking disaster of epic proportions.15 points

Well, our Marine is out. He was one of the ones chosen to escort our 13 dead Marines back home. He is young, bulletproof, and in a way can be careless. His biggest objection? Not being able to deal out retribution. Hopefully he will grow out of that, and live a long eventually uneventful life. Retribution would have only ended with him being killed also. He has a young wife and child that depend on him, and a family back home in Texas that loves him dearly. It is selfish, the kind of selfishness that one can admire, but selfish none the less. All of those killed were friends, and fellow Marines, but wisdom says it's time to live to fight another day. I understand being defensive against insurmountable odds, but not going on the offense. Fear is a good thing, its what keeps you alive. Rage will get you killed. CHIEF14 points

I don’t know if this is the right place, but didn’t really want to start a new thread. We lost our beloved chi-weenie Bella this morning. She came into our lives ~9 years ago after my wife’s 4th miscarriage. She’s given us so much joy over the years. She’s been dealing with chronic bronchitis for the last year or so and it turned to pneumonia this last week. She’s been getting daily treatment but short fast shallow breathing didn’t improve and we found her this morning lethargic and she was basically gone before we could get her to the ER. This one hurts. Ugh. I hate that her last few days were filled with suffering. in regards to the quoted pic. Like all chihuahuas, she could be a real bitch to strangers, but she was the sweetest fucking thing to our family.11 points

Finally heard from my wife’s family in Metairie. They have some leaks in their roof, no electricity and no drinking water, but seem to have made it through the worst of the storm alive with homes relatively intact.10 points

This game goes one of two ways. 1. Sark unveils the most potent UT offense since the halcyon days of Colt, and PK’s defense suffocates them to the tune of 49-10 beat down that is never in doubt and would be worse except they scored a TD against our scrubs in garbage time and our offense is the 3rd string to start the 4th quarter. 2. The offense operates with hesitancy and growing pains as various flaws like crappy WR and suspect OL are exposed in the first game of the season for a RS frosh QB learning on the job. It doesn’t matter because PK’s defense suffocates them and we still waltz through with a 28-3 win and lots of tape for our offense to learn from going forward. Either way, we’re not losing this fucking game. Our defense is going to be too damn good for that to happen. Could we be disappointed in the offense? Sure, but this defense will keep us in every game on our schedule, and will flat out win most games for us.10 points

They're not terrible but they're overrated as fuck. They beat Matt Campbell in his annual early season rub shit all over himself game. The rest of their schedule: W Georgia State 34-31 (OT) W Georgia Southern 20-18 L Coastal Carolina 27-30 W UAB 24-20 W Texas State 44-34 W Arkansas State 27-20 W South Alabama 38-10 W Louisiana-Monroe 70-20 W Appalachian State 24-21 W UTSA 31-24 That is garbage. They're overrated Cinderella media darlings, we will find out how under, over, or correctly rated we are on Saturday.9 points

This biggest thing I’m learning through all this is how big the minor leagues are in conservative right wing radio. I always thought it was Rush and two or three Bongino types. I didn’t realize every little town has their own Goebbels until they all starting dying.9 points

D dimers are small molecules that we can test for. When present in high numbers your blood is more likely to clot (or is clotting) in places and at times it shouldn’t. Those clots are called thrombi. An embolus is something that breaks loose and travels wherever a blood vessel takes it until the vessel’s diameter gets too small for it to go further. Then it lodges there as a blockage. Usually it’s a blood clot (thrombus) in a large vein. If a small one breaks loose it will work its way up to the right side of the heart and into the pulmonary arteries which start big and branch into a left and right before getting smaller and smaller as they branch out in the the lungs. So one or two small emboli probably won’t be a problem because you have a massive amount of collateral flow. But you can have showers of these small ones that effectively block flow from enough of the small vessels to prevent gas exchange in the lungs. Or you can have a massive one break free and get lodged where the left and right pulmonary arteries branch, like a saddle, blocking all blood flow to both lungs. If a thrombus forms in a peripheral artery, it will continue downstream as the artery gets smaller until it occludes all flow past it. The peripheral arteries aren’t like the arteries in the lungs which branch out all over; they are like terminal roads. So cutting off flow to that artery will kill whatever that artery feeds. Might be part of the brain, section of heart muscle, a kidney, a section of intestines, or fingers/toes etc. usually a combination of all the above8 points

I got home from New Orleans last night at 11. I was on the last Southwest flight out last night. I had to go to town to for a funeral. I had prep my grandmothers house for the hurricane since she had passed away. She lived in a flood zone on the West Bank in New Orleans. Yesterday at 3 pm her neighborhood was ghost town. I didn't see a single person. Also every gas station was out of gas. I turned in our car to Avis on empty. Also I went to costco on Friday afternoon in NOLA. What was crazy was Costco inside wasn't busy but the line to get gas was literally 3 blocks long. A lot of the pallets inside costco were almost empty too. I'm hoping my family in New Orleans do alright. In Lakeview (where most of my family lives), the pumps are broken so the neighborhood is definitely going to experience flooding.8 points

Not to be flippant but there really is a large subset of people who don’t have the cognitive ability to think critically. We understand intuitively at the extreme ends that these differences exist— most of us can’t be instructed into having the ability to do Fields Medal quality math. Those differences are the important if less immediately visible, in the middle of the curve as well. Evidence: Look at how many of these people are convinced that they ARE the ones thinking critically and who are performing a sad parody of critical thinking and research. A collapse of faith in authority is exacerbated by and reinforces a bewildering information environment. A lot of people who are capable of fully engaging in independent life do not have the raw processing power to navigate those shoals. In the past, there were serious barriers to producing and disseminating information at scale. That dissuaded pure conmen (who after all are looking to avoid working hard) and was virtually impossible to build functioning networks between the inept and incapable. That left mass communications to the intelligent and responsible (Cronkite) and to the intelligent and truly evil (Hitler; Stalin) and mere mercenaries (Hearst).8 points
