That reminds me of an old friend of mine, named Mike. He used to live in Wisconsin and he grew to just hate the snow. One day he packed all his shit, strapped a snow blower to the roof of his car and said “Fuck this snow, I’m driving south until Someone asks me what the fuck is strapped on top of my truck. That’s where I will live.” He ended up in Katy. We kind of fell out of touch and I tried calling (land line days) one day but his line had been disconnected. I ended up in Houston for a family thing and figured I would stop by his place and check in. When I got there the house was empty, some random things left behind like they left in a hurry. His next door neighbor was doing some yard work so I walked over and asked if he knew what happened to mike. He said “No, they packed all their shit up a couple months ago, damnedest thing though, they headed west on I-10 with an aggy tied to the roof of his truck.”32 points

I mean, if you’re a selfish asshole who only worries and cares about themselves. I’m vaxxed, so I’m protected from severe illness and death. But I can still catch COVID. And if the preliminary studies are correct, I should be less contagious if I do, but I’m not protected from infecting someone else. Like my 6 year old nephew. Or my friend with breast cancer. Or my 97 year old great grandmother - who is vaxxed but breakthrough cases are still very hard on that cohort. And as much schadenfreude as I get from the assholes who push this nonsense catching and dying from COVID, I don’t particularly want to be the person that infects one of their dumbass marks and kills them. So, yeah, I worry about other people. My compassion still exists despite all evidence slapping me in the face that that compassion isn’t returned by 35% of my fellow Americans. But I won’t let that be beaten out of me. Then I’m no better than them.24 points

I really feel bad for you that you haven’t been to a live game that provides an experience superior to your couch. That’s tragic.20 points

I have issues because I take issue with a bunch of old white men telling me what to do with my fucking body? Yeah, I am the one who has issues since I refuse to economically support that regime. Get fucked, dude.18 points

Casey got pulled when they were up 44-0 and Sark was looking to run clock and play the 4 deep. I don't think there was much more they needed to see from Casey - he had reps in each of the last two games before Rice and showed his confidence/poise in the Colorado game. As for Sark being stubborn and sticking with his guy - he just benched the guy you're calling 'his guy' and already named Casey as the likely starter against Tech. I think Sark was using OOC to evaluate the QB's before conference play begins - and wanted to see what Card looked like in a live-fire excercise. He found out that the moment was a bit too big for the young QB. I do agree that the team seems to really support Casey (not that they don't support Card, but...) and I would expect that for a 'good soldier' like Casey who stuck around and played the good backup for three seasons.13 points

Got to give my hometown boy some love! He made chicken salad out of chicken shit a couple times and had the long run. Don’t sleep on him, watching him in high school carry a whole team and have some of the best field vision and cuts I’ve seen in a while… He will be producing big time for us one day.12 points

This Texas team is still all kinds of flawed on both lines of scrimmage. We shouldn’t feel two touchdown confident against any Big 12 team not named Kansas.11 points

Mrs. Brown is at the field hospital at the Travis County Expo Center getting the antibodies treatment. She texted that she’s surrounded by small town trumpkins that have had COVID twice. She’s the only vaccinated person there from what she’s seen. A lady is arguing about whether she needs the treatment. The nurse yelled “YOU’RE FAT AND DIABETIC. YOU WILL BE DEAD IF YOU DON’T GET IT.”11 points

We should make a new thread where people describe the nature of strained or limited family relationships and then people come in and judge. My MiL was fucking around throughout the entire pandemic - posting pictures on social media of them drinking at bars and shit in the summer of 2020 (and throughout, I just mean after it was a big deal and before vaccines were available) so we haven't seen them since March 2020 (also btw 2 years for Penelope includes 1.5 years of the current social hell we continue to live in because of the parade of fools surrounding us). That was strictly on the basis of "you are fucking around, we are not, we'll see you when you stop fucking around or the finding out has ended" although it was complicated by wife getting pregnant and us moving to North Carolina. Apparently the MiL is butthurt (she unfriended us on facebook until she found out that her daughter was pregnant, was nice to get a break from her stupid mlm shit) and is waiting on us to explicitly tell her she needs to come see the baby and maybe offer an apology for not seeing her between her visits to karaoke and the chili parlor. That's not going to happen (and it's not my relationship to manage). I guess we'll see her if we make it down for Thanksgiving but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . On the "give a shit about what other people do" front, I honestly don't really care if they live or die. Even when my brother in law (who I like despite the fact that he's an idiot) was in the hospital my emotions were in the ballpark of "ah that's a fucking bummer but I guess that's what he chose. this is going to be a complicated thing for my wife if he croaks". But, you know, living in a society and all, our actions impact other people. Bama Chick highlighted a bunch of reasons why you would continue to care (if you weren't a big piece of shit) but another one is because the population of fools continue to incubate new variants that may cause all sorts of problems, as we have already seen with the delta variant. It'd be pretty neat to be able to go back to living our lives and we kinda need the morons to either die or get with the program.10 points

I think the pandemic is definitely affecting it, but college football attendance had been declining for many years before 2020. In many places, including UT, they're pricing existing fans out of the market, and they're not creating new fans to replace them. Part of it is the competition with television, streaming, and other entertainment options that the younger generations tend toward. But some of it is the simple fact that middle-classed parents can't take their family of four to a football game for a reasonable price, and so children aren't learning to love the game at an early age. Without that passion from childhood, as those kids grow into adults, they're less likely to care about attending a game in person. This all started a couple of decades ago, and now we're starting to see the results of that fanship erosion taking effect.10 points

I haven’t been to a college football game since the 2009 Big 12 championship vs Nebraska. And I don’t think I’ll ever go to another one. Even though I love college football I have zero interest in attending the game. Watching at home is superior in almost every way.10 points

I went and sat in the North end zone. The SEZ is cool, but those seats being empty and expensive to buy is dumber than our left side OL play. What a failure. It’s a shame we don’t give the students the SEZ to fill it up. That being said, the atmosphere was 10x better than it’s been and the place was loud for the first half. i don’t have pics, because I’m not a creeper, but my God, there were so many hot women walking around I couldn’t imagine being in college again with that walking around. 😳9 points

Burton: I couldn’t help but be impressed with the second team Texas OL. I don’t know how Andrej Karic doesn’t see the field as a first-teamer at one position or another. He is the nastiest OL Texas has on the roster. Whoever he was blocking ate turf at least half the time. Ian Boyd: The first team line had a great day but the second unit came out looking to maul people. Kyle Flood needs to think long and hard about why Karic isn’t somewhere in the starting lineup.9 points

Of course not. As long as you don’t mind not being able to access critical care or surgical treatment for you and your loved ones. One of the OR nurses at a surgery center I go to has a teenage child with asthma that started having SOB and they had to call an ambulance. Ambulance dispatch diverted them to an acute care clinic that had oxygen capability. Not a free standing ER, a doc in the box. Every ER in the area was on divert. She was there for 4 days with a bacterial double pneumonia exacerbated by her asthma. This was last week8 points

One of their pictures on Yelp features an OU flag at the bar, and a user pic shows an aggy flag handing from the rafters. Regardless of their mask policy, the place needs to be burned to the ground.8 points

Ole Hunter and his newfound national profile is THE topic on the various local Facebook groups. And I’m actually pleasantly surprised. Three months ago - before Delta started kicking our asses - 95% of the comments would have been supportive of him and bashing the “Here’s another anti-vaxxed idiot getting what he deserved” coverage. Now? It’s around 25% blaming the media, 25% generic T&Ps and 50% poking a finger in his eye for not being vaxxed and embarrassing our fine city. I post this graphic everyday with our daily numbers to all our social media and our website. I took off the facility name even though it’s been plastered everywhere thanks to his dumbass. But a few people shared it in comments about his situation. We’ve stopped being “nice” in our official communication and statements. We’re not being mean, per se, but we’ve started being blunt. Made me pleased that MAYBE our attitude has given people who have felt intimidated by the loud minority the encouragement to start speaking the truth to their neighbors. PS - Mr. Pepper is one of those gray people. And we currently have a total bed count of 128 because of staffing issues to put the numbers in perspective.8 points

With young kids at home that can’t get vaccinated, I’m not about to go to anything with a big crowd.......especially in a covid hot spot state. I was kind of horrified looking at the Florida crowd on TV yesterday.8 points
