So these types of photos are much more important than people want to believe. They are directly related to how an increase in crime in this country always leads to conservative election wins, and how the Dems constantly shoot themselves in the dick on law, order, and crime. All this shit taps into our deep subconscious. First, safety is at the very bottom of the hierarchy of needs, right above food and water. And the thing about safety is that we are not willing to accept a perceived loss of security in exchange for someone else to feel more secure. In international relations this is called the security dilemma-- a state that makes other states feel less secure in the process of making itself more secure is headed down a path of confrontation and war. Messaging lesson for Dems: Ensure that every talking point on police reforms, criminal justice reform, community safety, etc. emphasizes how they will lead to improved safety for ALL constituents and potential constituents. Otherwise the Rs will beat you by promising more safety for their chosen constituents. Second-- and this is fucking primate, chimpanzee brain shit-- we are hardwired to HATE disadvantageous unfairness. Capuchin monkeys would rather that no monkey get any treat at all than accept one treat for themselves while another monkey gets three. Kids are the same way. (Important note-- monkeys, kids, and a lot of adults are usually fine if they are the ones getting more treats). And when people see images of shit getting stolen and people getting away with it, that monkey instinct kicks in. Someone is getting away with something, to my detriment, while I am following the rules. And the argument (more or less explicitly stated by some Dems and community activists) that we should tolerate a certain level of visceral, easily visible disadvantageous unfairness because of broader structural inequities that are behind the crime-- is just a non-starter on the monkey brain level. It can be accepted only as long as that unfairness can be disassociated from you personally. And that's hard to do with a train full of stolen Amazon shipments.20 points

Take your personal political feelings far the fuck away from here. Folks care about the vaccine status in as much as covid protocols exist that NCAA teams have to follow, and can include having to sit out games and force OTHER players to sit out games even if they're perfectly fucking fine. Are the rules stupid and outdated? Yes. But do they still need to be followed? Yes. So yeah, anyone that does shit that might increase the chances of showing symptoms and force a test, it matters. Football can move on from Covid when the NCAA lets them. Also, this:19 points

"... but it's what happens when you stumble in a long form podcast when you didn't know a subject was going to come up ... " A subject that he can't go twenty minutes without jabbering about whether he has a doctor on or Jim Gaffigan or Wiz Kalifa. "How did I know this topic that I can't resist initiating would be initiated?" He's unaware that he's the establishment now and has adopted the same reprehensible traits as mainstream broadcasters when challenged. Broseph douche. The guy smokes pot for the first time in his thirties and then it becomes his entire identity. "I'm weed guy now." Yeah? Great. Congratulations on your latest identity. You stink. Shut the fuck up and air hump the stool. Boo!12 points

All this elk hunting trip talk is getting me misty while reminiscing about the old guys that originally asked me to join them on their annual trip that they started in the early 60s. They’re all gone now except for one and he’s just a 84 year old man moving back to South Africa to round out his life with his daughter (leaving in February). This picture is from 1989 in Colorado. The old guys had nicknames for each other from old westerns. L to R: Dillon, Butch, Rowdy, Sundance. The old birds were quite the characters. I miss them.11 points

I’m not even trying to make a joke when I say that I’ve seen Marion in more recruiting phots in one week than I remember seeing Coleman in his entire time here.10 points

Not to fully interrupt the hard-ons you guys get over howling about some jock not getting a vaccine or anything, but the NCAA changed their rules this week to allow for prior corona infection within the last 90 days to cover the same requirements of vaccines for eligibility. At least for winter sports. Shockingly, they’ve actually made a good decision on something. I’m sure it will carry over to the football season too.10 points

Well this one looks like it will have a happy ending. Florida GOP official (who's pled to a previous road rage incident), road rages at Prius driver, rams Prius with his BMW, shoots at Prius driver, gets shot dead by Prius driver. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/florida/os-ne-florida-state-board-of-administration-official-killed-in-shooting-20220112-oymwwcbgpbej5b3lizkupfz7di-story.html https://www.dailykos.com/story/2022/1/13/2074414/-Florida-Republican-is-shot-dead-after-allegedly-ramming-car-and-shooting-at-driver9 points

I don't agree. The goal was never to completely stop the spread of covid-19, but to take reasonable measures to limit morbidity and mortality, not to protect the lives of our most vulnerable. Remember Initial efforts were to "flatten the curve," and while we could have done better, deaths were never going to be zero. We are now to the point where if you are vaxed you are going to have very long odds of being seriously or critically ill from the virus, and the likelihood of death is close to zero. Yes there are some who cannot get vaccinated or who will not see the same protective effects for various reasons, but these are very small numbers percentage wise, and tbh have always been at risk from URI's and GI viruses that spread through their communities, and we have never shut down society for them. I got emails from both trauma centers I work at. Both expect their covid censuses to peak next week with total numbers being the highest yet but with a much lower ICU census and much less strain on capacity. Each facility had to pause non-urgent procedures for at least 2 weeks during each of the 3 previous large surges, and neither is doing so this time. Things are different at least with omicron for now. Employer vax mandates no doubt will help, but we are on our way to an endemic virus that we will live with8 points

End up at La Mota 1 again. I looked around at other spots but all the good spots were taken and we like Mota. It’s about 2 hours from the pavement. Spent the first night at Upper Madera right there on 170, for convenience after getting in late. Had a great breakfast in Terlingua then headed out into the park the next morning. Perfect weather. Lows in the upper 30s, highs in the upper 60s.8 points

Why the hell would anyone spend an ounce of mental energy defending or justifying Joe Rogan's horrible fucking takes on COVID-19 and other shit? People can be indulged or forgiven for some shitty takes if they are on balance contributing something good to the world, like a World War II vet who has retrograde social attitudes. Here is what Joe Rogan offers society in descending order of usefulness and goodness-- a mildly amusing and entertaining podcast, some questionable comedy, talking about different punching and kicking techniques, advice on taking performance enhancing drugs, and paying people to eat goat balls on TV. Nothing he offers comes even close to offsetting the potential harm he's causing with all his disinformation bullshit.8 points

Smh. When you elect a criminal president who openly brags about breaking the law and getting away with it, then fail to hold them accountable when they try to overthrow the government when they lose their re election, people are gonna tend to think that stealing some shit off a train car is a lay up.8 points
