  3. This thread is so bad right now that I'm actually looking forward to someone posting a $9.95 practice update that is almost certainly 99.5% complete bullshit and 0.5% bullshit planted by the coaching staff.

  7. Sark is ultimately responsible and the buck stops with him. I will say, there were a lot of factors that led to 5-7 last year and not all of it was because of Sark. A few bullet point below that I feel definitely impacted this team. 1. This coaching staff basically met this team and did their install through zoom meetings. I do feel that this in some form had an impact whether you want to call it relationship building or trust. Not being in your normal facilities and meeting rooms does have an impact when you're a new coaching staff coming in. This is not an excuse for the performance on the field, but I do understand it can have an impact. 2. The talent level on this roster was piss poor. Worthy as a true freshman in summer practice was out performing our entire WR room. This speaks about Worthy's talent but also speaks about the absolutely piss poor WR development by Andre Coleman and Herman. Sark had the opportunity to tell Coleman to get lost but kept him on board. That's his fault. I will say, he saw his fault and was able to get one of the best WR coaches in the country to come in. Marion has had a huge impact from a recruiting and developmental stand point. 3. This team severely lacked leadership last year. Casey Thompson was anything but a leader. The guy cared more about where he was on the depth chart than the team. Card on the other seems to be about the most boring, uninspiring teammate I've seen in a while. The guy shits his pants. Us as fans see during game days. The team sees it on a daily basis. There is a reason the players were tweeting about Ewers the minute he committed to Texas. Our veteran players were Casey Thompson, Derek Kerstteter, Coburn, BJ Foster, Josh Tompson last year. Half those guys barely put effort during actual games let alone practices. BJ Foster has quit the team during a fucking game. Hell we all saw him quit in the middle of plays multiple times. Not much you can do as coaches when you don't have anyone able to take his spot, 4. I saw open WRs and QBs in clean pockets unable to deliver throws and/or catch passes. I can think of 3 crucial drops in the Arkansas game alone where a WR was wide fucking open for a TD. Either the WR dropped the ball or the QB completely missed the throw. Not sure what Sark is supposed to do in this instance other than upgrade the talent. I'm not here to make excuses for PK bc that was the worst defense I've seen Texas toss out there. With that said, I saw Jerrin Thompson miss 1 on 1 tackles repeatedly while being the right position. I saw our DBs and safeties miss PBUs and interceptions regardless of being in the right position. I saw Schooler drop atleast 3 interceptions last year. At some point, these guys have to make the plays. Things that I fully blame the coaches for: 1. Sark assembled a defensive staff backwards. He should hired his DC first and then bring in assistant coaches the DC can work with. I fully believe the defensive coaching staff is not on the same page. You can see it from on the field. The DBs and front 7 are never on the same page. 2. Half time adjustments. This coaching staff had no clue how to adjust once the opponents were able to make adjustments to our game plan. This needs to change this year or we will lose more 2nd half leads. 3. Not utilizing the portal to bring in more OL last year. This staff believed a bit too much in their ability to develop this shit talent Herman left. Part of being a good coach is understanding your own limitations. With all the above, I'm not sure Sark could have had a better offseason. We hired him and he needs more than 1 year to objectively assess his time here. While he hasn't proven shit yet, I'm not sure what else you would want from portal and recruiting stand point. We locked up Patterson to help on defense. Brought in a smart LB in DTD to move Overshown to help in space and pass rush. They upgraded at CB with Watts and focusing on improving man coverage. The offensive talent is the best we've seen on the 40 in quite some time. He was able to get this talent in 1 offseason. Props to him, I've seen every other coach here fail at doing that. Now it's time to perform. If he wins less than 8 games this year, then he's going to get fired after his 3rd year. I do think we will see this team win 9 games. There's just too much talent on offense and I've seen Sark spectacularly get gets wide open time and time again.

  8. I'll be labeled a sunshine pumping Sark apologist but I still think it's way too early to tell what we have in Sark. Called "Seven Win Steve" like it's all he could possibly be. Zero room for nuance. The UW program he inherited averaged 2.4 wins in the 5 seasons prior to him taking over and winning 5, 7, 7, 7 and 8 games. He inherited a USC program that was down to 44 scholarship players in the bowl game before he took over. Believe the scholarship count was at like 65 in his first season in which he won 9 games. What it would've ended up like if not for his personal failures, who knows. Saban went on a 4 game death spiral and lost to UL-Monroe at home in his first season. Is it also a statement of fact that a good coach couldn't possibly do that? Lets just be patient and see. Sark has the endorsement of several elite football minds. He knows as well as anybody what a elite program looks like. And whether you want to give him credit or not for recent recruiting / NIL / portal windfalls, it is also a statement of fact that he is accumulating elite talent.

  14. The ceiling on the team last year was playing for a conference championship and possibly winning it. No one is talking about the ceiling not being high here. They are talking about a coaching staff that can't turn that ceiling into a reality. This is the difference between a Saban and a Sark. Saban teams floor and ceiling are at most 2 wins apart. Sark can apparently go on 6 game slides and poof goes his floor. Good coaches don't go into death spirals and lose bowl eligibility to Kansas at home. That is a statement of fact. Sark was a bad coach last year. Does that mean he will be a bad coach this year? Everyone here is sure as fuck hoping not.

  17. My dad (RIP) was probably the biggest damn Longhorn fan and he still burnt a lot of his UT gear on the driveway after we lost to Arkansas when I was a kid. Lighter fluid. For a while there, we weren’t invited to game watches at peoples houses. But it’s all good. Bitch of it is and most of y’all know this he died 10/05/05 so he missed our greatest season since he was at UT with DKR 35 years prior. He’d be right up in this thread. Best thing was finding all the copies of faxes on letterhead (in a box in his gun safe after he passed away) that he had faxed to Mack Brown telling him was a sorry sack of shit he was for not winning the big 12. Lmao.

  18. At this point, all I'm gleaning from this thread is: 1. If Helobious thinks we should bet on Kansas, we should all empty out our retirement plans and drop every penny we have on Texas because that motherfucker has never been right about anything, ever. 2. The last decade has done a number on this fanbase's psyche. We need to win. Fuck this shit.

  20. This thread is created by popular demand (OK- maybe CTJ isn’t all that popular here with everyone but whatever) to explore arguments that maybe 7 win Steve or Steve sarkolosingham isn’t as bad as everyone thinks, and that he might even be about to lead us into a golden age of Texas football. Case to follow in about 8 or 10 subsequent posts so this post doesn’t become TL/DR. Note- anyone that knows me knows I’m a really authentic guy. I share what’s going on and am willing to open myself up to ridicule (running an rv into a low bridge, says hi) if it’s going to be a cautionary tale or entertain others around me. I KNOW, without a doubt, that making this case is going to open me up to more potential for ridicule or being pointed at and laughed at than anyone posting anything on here has since it was posted that we would stomp a mud hole in Stanford’s ass or that an Alabama team on the verge of winning a national title was going to gargle balls. Such is the nature of having a take about an event that hasn’t yet happened yet.

  23. No, you’re stupid. It’s not like these asshole republicans are making a point about the differences in PPP loans and student loans. They’re trying to call the people receiving $10k in student loan relief lazy freeloaders knowing full damn well that they accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in PPP loan relief. The comparison is completely valid in that sense.

  26. It’s time. Helobious Poll 2022. Just gonna do a top 5 and highlight some players. Two words: 5A Division 1. If we’re ever going to make the state semis, this is the year and division. Vela, McMemorial, and PSJA North are all stout this year. The SA districts in here are laughable. Only teams standing in the way: CC Vets and CC Miller. Si se puede. 1. Edinburg Vela – Campbell might be scummy but he sure can coach. Vela remains the class of the RGV. They added a transfer QB from Victoria West, whose family moved for the prosperous Edinburg economy and for no other reason. However my buddy that watched Vela vs Harlingen scrimmage last week said all of Vela’s QBs sucked. That may be their downfall after 3 years of stellar QB play. 2. Harlingen - @956 Worldwide we're gonna be good. One of our bigger/better O-lines we've had in a while, all experienced guys too. Lost a lot on defense but got 3/4 of a strong secondary back, including Albert Vasquez who got 8 picks last year. Pedro Silguero will fill in the DL void left by Huerta nicely. 3-way battle for QB from what I'm told, but really all they should do is hand the ball to Izaiah Bell or Kian Torres and GTFO the way. 3. PSJA North - Junior Ale Aparicio is in my mind the valley's best QB, out most of last year with an injury. This team has a lot of juniors and seniors that have played 2-3 years on varsity already. However the JV offense they run really limits them. 4. McAllen Memorial - They always have talent (at least 6 FBS scholarship players in the past 15 years, many schools up north can't even say that) but their coaching always massively held them back. This new guy seems better but we'll see. 5. San Benito - Their projected senior starting QB transferred to ride the bench at Judson for some reason. They should be solid but I don't see them making much noise. Gilpin Specials (players I think are good) Tyrell Trevino (SR), WR/RB, Mercedes - Best all around athlete in the valley, quite the track star. Passes what I've dubbed "the Mishak Test". If you have a black first name and hispanic last name you're probably good at football. Watch out for McAllen HS sophomore WR DeVante Espinoza for this reason as well. Tyrell holds an offer from TAMUK. Thomas Domian (SR), OL, McMemorial - Best lineman in the RGV. UTSA come get your man. Jake Dufner (SR), DL, Edinburg Vela - Best DL in the RGV. I don't really see FBS talent but he'll play in college somewhere. Justin Navarro (SR), WR/DB, Edinburg Vela - Hell of an athlete, could play D3 ball. Sterling Tomlin (SO), LB, Harlingen - Been hearing about this kid since for a couple years now. Will start as a sophomore, apparently he's just an animal on the field. Jaime Lopez (QB), Jr, PSJA - 3 year starter, should be taking a big step forward this year. Postcard home Landry Gilpin - Has turned himself into a damn good starting QB at Southwestern Eddie Lee Marburger - Could be the backup at UTSA this year as a RS Freshman. That's huge. Erik Pizzaro - Forgot about this guy. Was a star WR at Rio Hondo, walked on at Lamar and balled out there, has now transferred to Kansas State. Will be a senior That's all I got. For the love of god can someone win 3 playoff games. Good luck to everyone all over the state. It's the best time of the year.
