  1. You called out that other guy for misspelling Jalen Milroe (could have been an autocorrect, really). You said he should know since he was committed here for a time. At the same time, you referred to β€œHayden Connor”, while his last name is actually spelled Conner*. I said you should know that since he’s actually on our team. Finally, I intentionally misspelled irony to highlight the silliness of the whole thing.

  3. Every week I represent anywhere from 1-5 women charged with welfare fraud and felony perjury. They are charged as felonies with a maximum sentence of 3 years in prison. 100% of the women I represent are poor women who were receiving benefits (either food stamps or general relief) but while they were receiving benefits, their circumstances changed (got a second job, husband got a raise, child moved out of the house, etc.) They failed to update that information when they re-submitted their application. This is a "progressive" DAs office that goes after these women, many of whom are barely literate and have no education. They are absolutely terrified when they come into court. Two Americas, baby.

  8. Someone characterized the Jan 6 Committee as "an investigation into what everyone saw with their own eyes." This feels crazy having an insurrectionist would-be fascist dictator attacking the Capitol and stealing state secrets right in front of us and we're tangled in legal wrangling. It's like we stumbled upon a brutal rape in progress and are afraid we'll rough up the rapist unless we be very gentle. Even in that case, the criminal would go to jail to await justice. That is where the fuck Donald Trump belongs right this fucking minute. His criminal actions, allegedly "alleged," merit jail for the safety of the common good. If he were anyone but Donald Trump, that's where he'd be. Everyday he is free under these charges discredits our legal system. He deserves his fair trial. He doesn't (okay, shouldn't) get a free pass from pre-trial jail for such serious charges. Remand. No bail. Isolate him for safety. But jail. Three channels of TV: (CNN, MSNBC, and the Hallmark channel. But. Jail. Now.

  9. Get the fuck outta here! Man, you really had me convinced that we just had to let the system run its course! I feel so misled! Wait, no. All of us non-lawyers have seen through this FROM THE BEGINNING.

  10. He's going to skate. On all of it. Why? How? I truly have no idea. I've quit trying to understand. Some things defy all logical explanation or understanding. I am simply well aware that it is an ironclad, inviolable law of nature: Donald Trump is bulletproof. Somehow, some way, for some reason (probably because humanity needs to be punished for something), that's the way it is. There's no point in arguing "but not really, see the facts of this particular case, and this one. And see the law. There's no getting out of that!" Yes there is. How, I don't know...but there is. He was 100% correct when he said he could shoot a man in the face and his supporters would stand by him. He should have gone further, and said the remainder of the truth: he could do that without facing ANY consequences. It's insane. It's maddening. It's the worst timeline imaginable. But it's true.

  11. I don't think that is a reliable source. Actually read the article, it is largely nonsense about Russia destroying HIMARs, the US and the West running out of ammunition, and Russia's massive military manufacturing might (despite, you know, not actually being able to do any of those things).

  13. Not just the non-lawyers. But I'll disagree on the complaints about justice being slow. It should be careful, and that at times means slow. The problem here is that our country is no longer led by good faith actors. We have an ex-"president" and his entire party engaged in the indefensible and destroying institutions. And a DOJ acting like this is a typical white collar investigation. And a judge who is a cult member. Cannon's initial decision was bonkers. She essentially assigned a special master to review documents to determine if documents trump stole from the government should somehow be returned to the thief under an imaginary legal theory the thief's lawyers never explained. Yes, that's never been decided by a court before. Because it's fucking crazy. Cannon's not a good faith actor. And trying to put any of the rest of this in a legal framework doesn't really work as a result. There's no legal system, with this, or the transfer of power, or anything, that will withstand being hijacked by bad faith actors. Our entire government, not just the courts, requires that the people in charge actually respect the government. The laws are just paper. If you treat them like toilet paper then that's what they are.

  17. And it's also why the trumpy justice system is throwing itself infront of this issue and entertaining every feckless and facile legal filing by trump and giving them equal weight as a century of precedence and jurisprudence. It's just another example by trump to weaponize and exploit our cautious by design legal system, only to pull the rug out from under the pollyanas who lack the vision to actually see and recognize what's happening. I remain wishing I had just a whif of the faith twice had in our system. Trump is too rich and too well connected to actually face any real consequence, because he'll always have an avenue for appealing and delaying. And we'll get tut-tut-ed at by twice for being impatient, TWO FUCKING YEARS AFTER THE CRIME HAPPENED AND WE STILL HAVENT EVEN CHARGED THE FUCKING TANGERINE

  18. You're doing the same thing cannon did. You're taking trump's obvious lie at face value that there's privileged documents interspersed without them even giving a record of which documents or actually asserting anything. It's the same tactic they used during the impeachment to shield him from complying with subpoenas: "we aren't saying they're privileged, but they could be, so we aren't complying" You're like the refs at the bama game taking away our safety: you know the call is wrong so you're bending over backwards to justify it and act like everything is fine, when in reality the passer was down anyways and it's all an exercise in mootness to show you spent a lot of time reading the rulebook

  29. It's also why we should press the issue of indicting and jailing Trump now. I think every moment of delay makes the eventual ripping of the Bandaid even more damaging. I believe there is a confluence of forces known and not generally known to us getting more united, radical, and dangerous with each passing week. Their tactics of destroying faith in elections and challenging law and law enforcement grow more corrosive with every social media proclamation. Strike before they are ready. Round up the suspects. Indict them. Remand them. Let's see what the future holds right now rather than allow these traitors to creep into enough government positions that they destroy the republic.
