  1. Cool, we're still arguing as though there is some form of "messaging" the opposition party could use that would appeal to the shitheads infesting this country. The republican strategy for fifty fucking years was to vilify anyone who isn't a white, straight, cisgendred, christian male, or anyone who dares acknowledge the plight of these minorities. It worked. These people are okay with declaring war on American cities, stripping away all government safety nets, ensuring that the wealthiest pay no taxes, etc., etc., etc., because at least those transgendereds can't us the bathroom and anyone who speaks spanish is sent to the swamp gulag. If acting like adults and promoting better government policies on healthcare, education, immigration, diversity, etc., isn't enough, this country deserves what we get. This shithead and his regime never fall below 40% approval, and would still get 50%+ of a nationwide vote, because they have a license to be bigots and care zero, nothing at all, about policy. Sure there are things I'd prefer the Democratic party do differently, but I'm under no illusion that there is anything they can do within the confines of human dignity that would appeal to the masses in this shithole country. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fucking delusional.

  9. I appreciate you coming here seeking honest discourse. I think a lot of the antagonism you're receiving is based on your dismissal of Harris based on nebulous vibes and feelings. Is there something about her policy or platform you disagreed with? is there something that appeals to you about the Trump/GOP platform? TBH, a lot of the hate towards the Dems on a national level are based on untruths, intentional misinterpretations, and stereotypes. I've mentioned this on other threads, but take a look at the legislation passed every year in California - worker protections, improving access to healthcare for all, union protections, protecting LGTBQ, sensible gun legislation, women's reproductive freedom, etc. Take a look at Harris's platform in 2024. Compare that to what's happening in Texas, other GOP states, and Project 2025 (which at this point is obviously being implemented.) But if you take a passing look at the national media, you'd think that all they do out there is make Furries the official state animal, and give "illegals" checks every month. When you compare the two, which one is more appealing to you? We need to stop voting or siding with parties/candidates based on vibes and gut feelings. Read and compare the legislation put forward by candidates. Study their policy positions. It doesn't take that much time. When you see GOP politicians whose platforms solely involve things like "making America more free, protecting our God given rights, and fighting for the constitution, ask yourself why they are unable to articulate any tangible policy. The answer is simple - their policies are unpopular with the majority of Americans. That's not an opinion - polling overwhelmingly supports this. So they deal in platitudes and feel-good slogans that, in a vacuum, are difficult to criticize. If one is a voting for the GOP these days, it really only makes sense if you fall into one of the below categories: 1) Top .01% and/or 2) believe America was a better place when their was both intentional or de facto discrimination against Blacks, women, and immigrants. And that's not even considering the current administration who just yesterday declared that Americans in the largest cities are the "enemy from within" and that they will be gleefully sending American troops into those cities to teach them a lesson. You should be able to see why when someone stands in the middle while this is happening, they are, at best, mocked, and more typically, reviled.

  10. Barack Obama ain't walking through the door. The problem with both parties (not both sides) is that this isn't about policy anymore it's about control and power. Citizens United has eroded the entire foundation of what made political parties what they are, a platform of policy. Now it's legitimately just a power grab and nothing has anything to do with constituents it all has to do with deal making and personal enrichment. The Democratic Party is having trouble connecting with voters, because they have no platform, they have platitudes and a bunch of feel good kumbaya bullshit. If they wanted to really kick it into gear they should become the anti billionaire party. Reject any and all contributions from the ultra rich and corporations and go on a complete tear against monopolistic corporations and privatized bullshit ruining everyone's life. They won't, because that's bad for business.

  17. Talarico is 100% a better candidate for most Texans than anybody in the race from the Republican side. By a fucking mile. If you can't -- or won't -- see that based on what is playing out in front of your eyes, ain't nothing here likely to convince you. Voting Republican in ANY race helps Trump/MAGA keep majorities in ALL facets of government. It's only been eight months and look at the damage he's caused -- and continues to cause on a near daily basis. But Kamala was a terrible candidate. Boo-fucking-hoo. Worst case scenario with Kamala is that we fiddle-fart around for four years with ADULTS doing the really important shit and we pick somebody else in 2028. Worst-case scenario with Trump is a complete immolation of the Constitution and the Trump Monarchy has begun. Mike Judge's vision of future America becomes reality. But, hey, Kamala was an "idiot." You've got to look at the bigger picture here. This country is in a struggle for her life. The answer is staring you right in the face. Get rid of the scourge that is MAGA and then (only then) can we get back to the typical Dem-Rep squabbling that is 'normal.' And this.

I know it’s easy to fall through a rabbit hole of ends versus means when trying to justify an economically damaged America, there is no way that the loss of our democracy and having Trump as dictator will not end up being far worse for America and its citizens than whatever long economic hellscape we must endure in order to prevent that happening. While it is sad that millions of Americans are forced to jump on the grenade, whether they voted for TFG or not, that is kind of where we are.

  35. Yeah, it's pretty simple. Nobody will take him seriously until he can actually say "holy crap shit is really bad I should have helped keep Trump out of office." FFS he can't even articulate why Harris is a dipshit, he just says it as if it's fact. He came in here saying he wanted an honest discussion but he can't even explain his starting position, which makes honest open discussion impossible.

  36. This would be true if we were going to have a straight mid-term election. By then, the gerrymandering will be complete, mail-in ballots will be illegal, and the polling places will be secured by ICE agents, or maybe even National Guard, "to protect against Antifa threats to our democracy," which is code for "make sure minorities don't vote." I don't think the Dems are taking back Congress in 2026 or the White House in 2028. They didn't engineer all of this shit to have total control for 2 years then start giving it back. I keep saying that the GOP has been playing the long game for about 30 years, and this isn't the end game. It's the middle.

  37. And soybeans are just an easy example. Add defense materiel to the list. Add a shitload of things to the list. When Party A shows -- under a bright shining spotlight of its own making -- that it is an unreliable, erratic, mercurial, spiteful trading partner.....then parties B through Z will respond rationally, and pursue a strategy of disentanglement from trade with Party A to the largest extent possible. Imagine that you are an HEB loyalist -- good store to shop at, wide selection, good prices, open pretty much all the time (yeah, HEB is open!). Then....HEB is acquired by new ownership. They start closing at random with little warning, so your plan to pick up your groceries this Saturday gets crushed. Then, when they ARE open, they close off random aisles, so you can't get your full list ("WTF? You closed off the coffee/tea aisle, and the dairy section? So now I have to go to another store for those?"). Also, they jacked up the prices on random items. The package of chicken breasts that was $7.50 last week is now $15, the package of toilet paper that was $10 is now $20. Again...when they're open. Oh, and the store manager walks behind you, insulting you and calling you a cheater and a liar the entire time you shop. I'm gonna guess that you're going to check out the nearby Randall's, or Sprouts, or what have you rather quickly, because HEB sounds like it fucking sucks to do business with now. And when it comes to things like large-scale commodities, supply chains, and long-term contracts (you don't buy a fifth generation fighter plane to use for a year, you buy it to use for 25 years), Party A is not going to get those sales back, for a generation or longer. We are destroying ourselves as a global trading partner. For no fucking good reason at all. It's fucking insanity, the harm is massive and irreparable. And for fucking NOTHING. We're lighting ourselves on fire for fucking NOTHING.
