E.J. Holland: OL/DL recruiting notes from The Opening Dallas

— Texas commits Logan Parr and Jake Majors are completely locked in with the Longhorns. They are working hard on the recruiting trail and are really focused on boosting their offensive line class. Both Majors and Parr are in consistent contact with fellow four-star offensive linemen Damieon George and Chad Lindberg. By the way, Parr measured in at 6-foot-4, 281 pounds, while Majors checked in at 6-foot-4, 283 pounds.

— Elite 2021 offensive lineman Tommy Brockermeyer is planning to return to Texas for a spring practice visit. Right now, Texas seems to be in the pole position. He has obvious connections to the program and loved his recent junior day experience. Oklahoma, SMU, where his father works, and TCU are both recruiting Brockermeyer really hard as well.

— Four-star 2021 offensive lineman Erick Cade said Texas and Texas A&M are recruiting him the hardest. Texas A&M had the edge in this recruitment before the departure of Jim Turner. However, Cade said Texas has a chance to take over his recruitment now. He is planning to make a visit this spring.

— Four-star 2020 Highland Park defensive end Prince Dorbah said Texas is recruiting him the hardest out of all the schools at the top of his list. Dorbah said Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas would for sure receive official visits. Oklahoma State and Florida are two other schools Dorbah mentioned as potential official visit destinations.

— Some 2021 defensive linemen to keep an eye on are Weatherford’s (Okla.) Ethan Downs and DeSoto’s Shemar Turner. Texas visited Downs during the contact period, and Turner has been on campus. The Longhorns are evaluating both underclassmen.

Mike Roach: Observations from The Opening Dallas regional

—Texas commit Hudson Card was one of three finalists named to the Elite 11 out of the regional camps. Card will go on to compete in a semi-final event with a trip to Dallas for the finals on the line. Card tested well, and he showed precision skill passing the ball throughout the camp. Card drew rave reviews from coaches in attendance who praised his poise and competitive level.

—Jake Majors had a better performance this week, but still struggled at times with power rushers Majors’ feet are superb, and he shows good quickness and leverage. Majors measured in at 6-foot-4, 283 pounds today, and he will need to work on adding upper body strength to handle bigger interior linemen. Majors performed well enough to be named to the final group in one-on-ones where he came out on top of a few battles.

—Logan Parr was solid in one-on-ones. He showed good quickness and feet measuring at 6-foot-4, 281 pounds. Parr showed dominant ability at times, but he had some issues with hand-placement that caused him to lose reps he appeared to have the advantage in. Parr is built very well to develop at the next level, and like Majors he will need to work on adding upper body strength.

—Duncanville quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson’s future position is always in question, but he had a strong showing throwing the ball today. Jackson’s athletic tools are off the charts, but he showed nice anticipation and timing today during camp drills. Jackson’s skillset is strong enough that he could end up playing quarterback at the college level if he would like to.

—All Saints offensive lineman Tommy Brockermeyer continued his spring coming out party. The priority Texas target was the best offensive lineman in attendance today. Brockermeyer’s size and skill are impressive, but his coachability was the best trait he showed off all day. Brockermeyer spent time off to the side with camp coach and former Longhorn Johnathan Scott. Brockermeyer is working his way into the elite conversation in 2021.

—Denton Braswell 2021 offensive tackle Erick Cade showed a good motor and coachability today, but he struggled with speed rushers. Cade has tremendous size and an awesome wingspan, but he was heavy-footed at the point of attack. Cade is still growing into his frame and should work on adding flexibility.

—Highland Park defensive end Prince Dorbah had another strong day. Dorbah’s explosion off the edge was evident, but he ran into a few more obstacles this week. One of those obstacles was Brockermeyer who matched up against Dorbah in the final group. Dorbah lost the first round, but he bested Brockermeyer in the second round. The third round could have been called a stalemate. Dorbah’s pass rushing skill and athleticism combined with his length are what make him a highly-coveted prospect.

—West Mesquite running back Ty Jordan was one of the best performers on the day overall. Jordan’s quickness and explosive ability give him such an advantage in camp settings, and he used it again to conquer opponents who couldn’t keep up in close-quarters action. Jordan’s fit is perfect for a conference like the Big 12 or Pac 12 where his speed can be used to spread the field and open spacing for the offense.

—Bishop Dunne linebacker Brennon Scott was only able to get a few reps in today, but he looked quick in space and adjusted well to cutting ball carriers. Camps are rough environments for players like Scott who excel in downhill blitzing, but he made the most of things and mixed in a good performance.

—Skyline wide receiver Quaydarius Davis was one of the loudest personalities on the field, but he backed up his talk with strong play. Davis is a very raw route runner, but he attacks defensive backs and put them into conflict constantly before out-athleting them for the ball. Davis shows strong hands and good explosion, and his physicality is tough for defenders to handle.

—Aledo wide receiver JoJo Earle is such a natural receiver, and he’s a quarterback’s best friend because of his explosiveness, dependability and flypaper hands. Earle glided in and out of routes today and made accelerating look effortless. Earle is a perfect fit for the slot position, and he should see the field early wherever he ends up.

—Little Elm cornerback Ryan Watts tested very well, and he showed that he had some speed and athletic ability with his massive testing score. Watts is still finding himself at cornerback, and he struggled at times to get his feet under him in transition at cornerback. Watts presents a great athletic package, but he’s still very raw and will need to refine his feet and hips before making the jump to the college level.

—Arlington high cornerback Jahari Rogers had a good day overall, and his confidence as a corner is growing by the day. Rogers’ length and exceptional quickness helped him to jam receivers near the line of scrimmage and stay in front of them. Rogers is still relatively new to the position, and he struggled at times with physical receivers. That said, his overall skillset and athletic package have him as one of the most promising cornerback prospects in Texas this year.

—Mansfield Timberview cornerback Jalen Kimber’s testing numbers were the best on the day, and he won the fastest man competition with a 4.43 40-yard dash. Kimber lost some reps where he got caught guessing, but overall he showed great hips and feet as he stuck on a number of the top receivers during the camp. He came up with one interception and several pass breakups during the day.

Can somebody bring me in on the Card hand jokes?

I like Card, but I hope the staff is quietly talking to Bryce Young. I'm sure Young is betting on a coaching change, but Southern California is wide open right now.

Yall do realize Bryce Young is way smaller than Card.

Isnt he?

It's close and they recruit STL hard, so I think he has old teammates there. Doubt we have much to worry about unless this season goes topsy-turvy.

IF Illinois wins the Big Ten, I'll start getting worried.

It's Lovie Smith we're talking about here. The guy could f*** up a cup of coffee.

If he starts a shoe missing its string at QB, then the Colts don't ever win a Super Bowl with Peyton Manning.

Fine, fine. From EJ in a Kroger parking lot

- EJ's numbers are low b/c of his marriage + honeymoon, so he's had to pump out a lot more articles lately. Apparently he's buying groceries to cook vegan chili tonight. EJ's wife has him on a diet even though he's 175 lbs.

- Buy/Sell: Texas lands 2 of Ringo, Flowe, Milton, and Smalls. EJ would pass on that bet, 2 of them is tough but realistic. Ringo has been to Texas twice and is the best bet w Westbrook as his current coach and Beck as his school's former coach. Him and Milton will both be back for official visits, probably. Others are longer shots because they haven't visited. They probably won't be a package deal.

- Texas will continue to recruit at a national level. Lathan Ransom is another potential visitor, as is Damien Sellers. Johnny Wilson said he never considered going OOS until Texas came calling.

- EJ's not sure why A&M backed off of CTJ. He had a terrific junior season and Fisher visited his high school a lot, but then contact dropped off and Texas is in the best spot to land him.

- Most under-rated prospect so far is Joshua Eaton, outside the Texas top 50. Lot of P5 offers w/ A&M adding their name tonight. Another underrated kid is Jerrin Thompson from Lufkin, great as a nickel prospect. Thinks Texas should take a harder look at him.

- Eaton and Watts are very similar players. Watts is a bit thicker, Eaton is more athletic. Both very raw in their technique. Would put them in the same rankings range.

- Demond Demas apparently joined the Periscope, along with Tommy Brockermeyer who had a dominant day in Dallas.

- Majors will be a very good center. EJ is OK with his drop in the rankings, he's very intelligent and a potential multi-year starter but won't wow you with his athletic traits or upside.

- Charles Wright from Austin High is a kid Roach likes. Could be a guy that rises.

- EJ now getting grief for the Noah Cain saga.

- Regarding receivers, Texas is in a great spot with Johnny Wilson. Troy Omeire and Demas are the two elite in-state WRs, and Texas is in a tough dogfight with A&M for both with Demas already an A&M commit. Troy is visiting Texas on March 9th and it'll be huge in his recruitment. UT is in a good position with Quinten Johnston (recently got a rankings bump) and JJ Hester out of Oklahoma.

- Something about BBQ, and Whataburger vs. In-n-Out.

- EJ would take Johnny Wilson over Demond Demas. Demas is a better athlete with a higher ceiling. Wilson is a more polished prospect and is gigantic. What stands out for Johnny is his route-running. Doesn't struggle to get in and out of breaks like Brennan Eagles did, he glides through his routes. Can't go wrong with either.

- EJ is close to putting in Texas CBs for Johnny Wilson but he wants to wait and see with him. Washington and Oregon are the two biggest threats. Could legitimately run a 4.5.

- EJ still thinks JaQuinden Jackson should be a five-star. Next Cam Newton, etc. etc. Not expecting an early commitment. Texas should tell him he can play any position "because he's awesome".

- O-line needs for the 2020 class have been addressed, in a good spot with D-line as well. Need corners.

- Princely Umanmielen joined the Periscope, asked EJ if he's into fashion. EJ reeled off some brand names.

- Texas wants to bring in Damien Sellers for a visit. EJ doesn't pay to go for tournaments, his expenses are covered as a 247Sports reporter for the most part.

- Darnell Washington is a real-deal, five-star stud. Was awesome this weekend.

- @OnAComputerrecommended that EJ visit P. Terry's Burger Stand. EJ absolutely hated it, said it was a 'trash burger'. More BBQ talk.

- EJ really likes Josh White. Another down year for LBs in-state but White's a brought spot along with Brennon Scott. Similar to David Gbenda.

- EJ's wife still disagrees with him over his hairstyle. EJ would never move to Austin, says he's 'team Dallas'.

- Jase McClellan will be tough to flip from blOU. Texas should have offered him earlier, they may have secured his commitment first.

- Texas will take two safeties and a nickel. This is not as good of a DB class in-state as 2018 but it could be comparable. Lorando Johnson, RJ Mickens, CTJ, and Dwight McGlothern are EJ's favourite in-state DBs this cycle.

Compared to other fast food burgers. I’m not gonna try to compare it to a legit sit down burger place.
