Fuck Big 12 refs

I think fox is in on the fix. Or at least Brando and Tillman. No discussion all game of the massive holds, or that play. Nothing to the tune of “they got away with one there” at any point. Barely any replay that showed anything. Then the absolute certainty about the forward progress at the end and befuddlement.

anyway, since when is it ok to go through a receiver to make a play on the ball?

eta: fix is too strong a word and implies an attempt at creating a final result. This is more like a thumb on the scale. Make it harder for one side. If they can overcome, so be it.

Befuddlement is one of my favorite words.

We sucked overall but in the end the refs traded about 20 missed holding call and traded them for 1 bad spot when it mattered

More than just missed holding call, blatant spot “errors”, missed PI, missed block in the back on kick off, and so on and so on. Boo hoo for UH. One penalty all game.

The call on Anthony Hill for a personal foul was terrible. The ref saw the receiver go flying and reacted to the UH bench hyping it up.

Prediction: there will be a “Fuck SEC refs” thread on this site before the end of next season.

Prediction: nobody will ever give a shit about okie lite in their shitty "no defense" playing conference where every game seems to come down to the last few plays and cruical calls/no calls or reviews that take 10 mins.

Our last game for the foreseeable future, with OSU, was last year.

Was a fun feeling telling the Houston fans around me this is what you came for, the big12 where the officials take over every game and make it about them. They were laughing until they got fucked.

They were also planning to rush the field, down 10 points in like the third Q.

Also a couple in front of us told us they would never bring their Longhorn friends to a game again, but there won't be a game again lol. It's over, the "rivalry" with Houston has ended.

Next time we play a big 12 game it's a tune up against a 9 seed big 12 champ in the expanded playoffs

The PA guy made a very sarcastic warning about running onto the field on that last drive...they definitely would have gone for 2 and rushed the field had they made it

Just missed it by 4 yards.

When UH punted out of bounds later in the game, they missed that by about as much.  The ball hit way OOB at the 42, rig 12 refs spotted at the 42.  Should have been about 46 or 47, imo (couldn't really tell where from TV - but horrible spot).

Yeah their punter was shanking them into the stands in pregame. Hard to judge where those go out of bounds, unless it's your job and you are in the right position to see it and paid to be a professional to judge where it goes out.

It's not hard.  The linesman doesn't actually try to determine where it goes out of bounds, he'll walk up the sideline until the referee (who stands right behind the punter) signals that the linesman is directly inline with the direction of the punt.

So you basically have one referee setting the line of the boundary and one setting the line of the punt and they just make the two lines intersect.

It was sarcasm.

HS officials do a better job of this somehow than rig12 officials.

Still, Houston fans get to bitch and say the refs rigged the game for the Longhorns. Hilarious.

That call on Burke was a declined facemask, not a declined holding.  Was there another declined?

The facemask that was declined was on the first drive where we sacked them for an 8 yard loss on the play.

The holding that was declined was on the 3rd drive on 3rd down when they only got 5 on 3rd and 12.

The refs are not to blame (or shouldn't be, at least), for our loss to OU nor any suboptimal performances like against UH. However, seeing the Houston Cougars, who were a 80-90th ranked team in terms of penalties coming into last week, only get hit with one accepted penalty for 15 yards (the result of a helmet being ripped off)... I decided to at least take a look.

Here are some facts to do with what you will:

There have been 6 games refereed by Big 12 crews this year (all different crews)

In every single game, Texas' opponent has recorded fewer penalties and penalty yardage than their average in other games

Texas' opponents are averaging 85% more penalty yards per game and 58% more penalties per game against non-Texas opponents

Taken in aggregate, the average Texas opponent giving up only 23.5 penalty yards per game would rank 2nd in the country, only 0.5 yards behind Army (23.0 yards/gm)

3rd would be Michigan at 24.9 (a full 1.4 yards more); 8th in the country would be Temple, at 35.4 (a full 11.9 yards more)

Said differently, when playing Texas, opponents (all of them) are averaging 12 yards fewer penalty yards/gm than the 8th best team in the country at mitigating penalties

No single opponent has had more than 30 yards of accepted penalties. That means the most-penalized single opponent outing would still be 6th in the country if it was their season-long average.

Said differently, every single game has resulted in fewer penalty yards than the 6th best penalty team in the country averages

In aggregate, the average Texas opponent giving up 3.3 penalties per game would rank 4th in the country (Army at #1 is averaging 2.9)

Texas' opponents are better on average than the FBS average for penalties, but the fact that all of them are combining for it (and beating their non-Texas average) is statistically improbable

Caveats:

This does not account for declined penalties, of which there are surely some. I'm just not going to do that work.

Of course some penalties, such as false starts or delay of games, are non-judgement calls.

However, their average yardage per penalty is almost 20% higher in non-Texas games -- this could imply that there are more judgement-related long penalty fouls, such as holding and DPI, being called against them in non-Texas games

You could also claim that Texas doesn't put its players in a position to draw penalties as well as other the other teams our opponents played. But, given the weakness of our opponents' non-Texas schedules, plus the strength of our D-line and receivers... that seems... unlikely.

image.thumb.png.c56bc662cc9271cf3916a9b0294dca8c.png

I forgot how to calculate the probability of something like this and I'm not going back through 2 books to figure it out. But based on things I remember I can most assuredly say it's less than 1%. I also wouldn't be a bit surprised if the same analysis shows the same thing for the last 15 years.  What scum B12 admin and refs are. We can't get out of this shithole conference fast enough.

He is a pussy. It is rigged have the balls to say it. How many facemasks go uncalled? How many dpi go uncalled? How many holding/takedowns go uncalled? How many delay of games went uncalled. How many controversial calls went for vs against Texas? Illegal formations? How many times have we seen them stop our offense from snapping the ball to allow for defensive substitution without an offensive sub?

And the then there are the spots.

On that one play with the obvious holding, there were 3 of them. Anyone of them should have triggered it.

Lets then look at celebrating vs taunting penalties. Why is Texas flagged and or warned for it, but opponents can stand over and taunt the player on camera? Why is a high five worse than a fuck you?

Who knows? I’d guess because everyone claims Texas always tries to get its way, so the conference deliberately shows bias against us as compensation.

But it’s been that way for 20 years. Why did anyone think this year would be different?

With that logic nothing will change at all next year.   The money and viewers will be all in secsec.   We're gonna be stuck.  What incentive in the world do they have to call us any differently? They'll continue to average 2 teams per playoff regardless if we take the next step or not

This board is in for utter meltdown if nothing changes into the future and OU continues to hold for free

OU fans aren't thrilled with officiating from Big 12 for the past two years either and have the same complaints we have.

I’d like to see a side-by-side comparison of penalties called against Texas and OU since the announcement…and for years prior to the announcement. Who wants to do this for me?

Last year we each had 0 or 1 holding calls against our opponents in big 12 play. I’m sure some OU twitter person has it for them.
