This is what a THEOCRACY does. In Cincinnati, in Texas, in Alabama, wherever. This is what happens when the Church and its fact-free myths take over the state.

Going flat out f*cking medieval!  The "Right to Life" means "Ready for Death."

Expect Pain. Expect Violence. And, yes, expect deaths. Many.

Coming in the faith-ruled future. Public stonings, floggings, hangings, executions.

Doctors, educators, scientists will practice in fear.

Medieval America is here.

These fanatics have been coming for abortion and reproductive rights for decades. And they are not stopping there. A theocracy was and is the goal. I saw the origins of this medieval madness at UT in late 1980s-early 1990s.

-- Back then, there were various student groups with tables in the "Free Speech" area on the West Mall. Every weekday, numerous student groups with Xeroxed pamphlets and manifestos. Here's what I 100% clearly recall.

Reagan Worship and Religious Fanaticism at UT

There was a little student group of Christian Creationist-Evangelical-Fundamentalists with a table and with their little manifestos railing against the "sin" of abortion, sex, evolution, and so on. All based on the myths and cherry-picked verses of the Bible. These women/men were dead serious, no facts or logic could reach them, they were already fanatical true believers ... even as students at UT.

-- Their God was the ultimate law-giver ... and they were on Earth to make it so ... in Texas and America and beyond. There were in favor of a Christian-ruled "theocracy" for America. Said it right to my face as we discussed various topics.

-- And, oh, did they love them some Ronnie Reagan and Jerry Falwell. LOVED them. Hell, those dudes were WORSHIPPED, just like Trump today. This was GQP-MAGA in the origin stage.

-- I saw the UT frats, sororities, and business schoolers loving/worshipping them some Reagan, too. Same as 60% of America cheered on "Morning in America" and Bible-thumping all across the land.

Anyone not brainwashed by Sunday School knew this was BIG trouble if the Religious Right ever got widespread power.

UT Leftists and Libertarians Argue Over Capitalism

Yet, the tables of leftists, with their secular religion of Marxism (and new found "relativism"), were only seriously worried about corporations and capitalism. Meanwhile, the libertarians were loving some Reaganomic trickle-down BS capitalism. So, liberals and libertarians argued endlessly over capitalism (and still do), while the Christians worked to seize power. With the fall of of Communism, the Christians felt destined to rule the world.

No doubt, 98% of the UT frats/sororities/libertarians voted for W twice in 2000 and 2004 and enabled where we are today. Many are Surly posters.

Meanwhile in 2024...

Four decades later, the Christian fanatics have the power. These evidence-free idiots are running the f*cking State of Texas and the SEC South, have their guy as the Speaker of the House, own the Supreme Court, they got abortion stopped in many states, and are implementing a fascist theocracy across America led by Trump ... and whoever comes after him.

Secular society is in BIG TROUBLE. It may not survive. And the Christian fanatics and puritans will be the ones who destroyed it.

Blah blah blah.

Women aren't people, they're chattel.

And as always, never forget that the cruelty is the point.  It's the time-honored way to show lesser beings (women, in this case) that you are the boss and should not be questioned, because you can do whatever the fuck you want whenever you want (subject them to violence and death).  Does "shoot a man in the face in the middle of 5th avenue" ring a bell?

The only thing more devout than faith despite lack of evidence, is faith despite contrary evidence.  So there is no debate or changing of minds.

couple that with the belief that things are ordained a certain way by god, and there is no compromise.

there is only one path for them.  Despite the FACT (since we don’t know what god thinks or wants) that what is really happening is that people are aligning god with their beliefs to anchor them, and not themselves aligning with god.

How long until Rs start screaming about how this new over the counter birth control is over the counter abortion?

Yes, but what my book presupposes is what if they use the self-checkout machine?  Dammit, I had something for this!

I'm not an ardent Christian.  I got my own other higher power shit going on.  My daughter the other day after some boy was talking to her inappropriately about genitals and sex that she has nothing to be ashamed of.  Pull your shorts down sweetheart, not because there's anything wrong with you but it's just not hygienic to put your butt on a filthy restaurant chair.  And this kid made her feel bad about being a girl.  And I have to admit, maybe my upbringing, she should never be embarrassed about her body or her femininity.  Women are the best thing to ever happen to this planet.  But yeah, I'm kinda old-school, I don't want her having sexual engagements at a young age and I certainly don't want her pregnant at a young age or having to seek out an abortion.  But in the end, it'll her and her mom's call if it comes to that.  I'm just her to make sure no asshole kid mistreats her.  And while I'm looking over her shoulder to the dickhead boy being mean to her...I forget over my shoulder is a governmental mechanism hell-bent on making her life choices as difficult as possible.  And so yeah, I'm pro-feminism and I love my girls and I admit I'm still a little conservative when it comes to them being wild and free and all about love.  But I wake up thinking about how to fuck up the Paxton's and Abbott's and Patrick's of the world and hurting them is fun for me.  And I think of the MAGA dad's I know who have sons who may one day court my daughter and potentially mess up her life.  And I think of how I'm going to explain to the cops that, "Yeah, I beat the fuck out of the dad in front of his son because I don't hurt young people.  So maybe get the concept before you get the cuffs.  Because I'm fucking stupid.  After 100,000  years, women finally caught a break and got treated half-ass decently and we just couldn't fucking help ourselves and had to start being mean to them again.  My girls don't need a protector, they'll be just fine on their own because they know how to handle themselves.  But Daddy is just like Tommy in "Casino" sometimes.  I'll get outta prison and fuck the guy up again, because I don't know any better anymore.  I didn't make this game but I can sure as shit ensure bad people are made to suffer.  And around and around we go.  What the fuck else is there to do?

Yesterday?

Jimmyjazz speaks truth.  This is not something new. In addition, the bill to which the former speaker refers was passed in 2022 in the House but languished in the Senate due to stalling by the GOP.

March 22 marks the date (52 years ago) that single women were "given" the right to use birth control by SCOTUS ( 1972 Eisenstadt v. Baird). Prior to that, it was only married women who had the legal right to obtain and use birth control (due to Griswold v. Connecticut in 1965).

Ironic that the word control is and always has been about who is "allowed" to wield it.

It all just boils down to this.

We are reflexively lurching backwards.  For a brief window of time, we were decent to women, minorities, queers.  We can't have that now, can we?   Gotta go back in time: make being assholes great again!

Democrat Marilyn Lands wins an Alabama State House seat in a district that Donald Trump carried in 2020 by beating her opponent over the head with abortion and access to IVF. Bodes well for Democrats this fall.

Is Florida in play now with abortion literally on the November ballot and needing 60% to pass??

We can only hope. After the shooting in Parkland failed to bring on any change in leadership, I don’t have much hope. Fingers crossed, though.

Wait, your HOA is called "EcceciasteEstates"?  That's a weird coincidence.

This came up (not by me for once) at Easter weekend with some family.  I know I belabor this point, and men are most certainly to blame for the vast majority of all of this, but I am just fucking more and more dumbfounded why women are so eagerly doing this to other women.  And I can't ask why, it's none of my business what their personal past may have been with regard to abortion or D&C procedures or sexual assault or what have you.  But it is just jarring to me how enthusiastically vocal so many Texas women have become (at least in my neck of the woods) with regard to every birth is a blessing, even if by a date rapist or creepy uncle, carry it to term, and should your life be put in danger---well then that's just God punishing you for thinking about abortion in the first place.  I get that men think that way, we're fucking assholes.  But listening to women openly talk that way, what in ever the living hell?  Did I miss a meeting?

Mean Girl Gate-Keeping.

Some of them never outgrow it. Also, as a dad, this is something you can model for your daughter--how to stand up for herself because those mean girls start developing their skills in elementary school and it can leave a lot of scars.

That's a good term, "Mean Girl Gate-Keeping."

It is a paradox that I've long witnessed since diving back into politics.  And it's unfolding in my own home now.  On the one hand, my oldest is so confident and strong and competent.  And at the same time, she is so easily frustrated and compromised by other girls in her group of friends.  And I know that can have long-term implications.  I'm doing my level best, and thank the Lord, she has an amazing mother as a role model.  I have done what I can to empower her.  And the boys around her are certainly little assholes but seriously with the shitty girls in her clique are what literally keep her awake at night.  I knew this shit would happen one day, just not so soon.  And you say---what happens now can leave a lot of scars.  I knew men weren't taking a day off of being shitheads to women, so I couldn't either.  But I didn't see the other females my periphery doing the same.

A key difference between men and women:  While both men and women treat women like shit, they do it in different ways.

Men treat women like shit by building entire institutions around the premise that women are second-class citizens.  That way, all of male-dominated society treats women like shit.

Women treat women like shit on a one-on-one/small group basis.

Both accomplish the same goal - bitches be kept down.  Just very different dynamics to get to that same goal.

Yeah, solid observation.  My wife's upbringing and church allegiance still rears its biases sometimes.  With the Texas legislation and then the Alabama IVF (which her youngest sister will most likely need given her medical condition), she still kinda backslides into 'anti-female' mentalities.  I took me until my youngest was 5 to realize the extent of this.  And then half my female family members gladly visit it this shit upon other women.  I guess I passively saw/heard it happen over the years but never gave it much thought because I was too busy pretending to be an Oklahoma State football player on the Riverwalk before the Alamo Bowl to get laid.  I don't want my daughters to be sexually promiscuous or get an abortion or an STD.  But if does happen, I won't judge them and I sure as shit want the best health care possible.

But then you have daughters and drop all your male bullshit and try to be there for them and lift them up to be like their moms.  And you work at it for years and years and years, as they deserve.  Some asshole boy comes along and can ruin it in a second.  And certainly some shithead girl classmate can come along and make all of a junior high a living hell for the our baby girls.  And then, on top of all of that, our government can regress and make being a female in the United States a borderline misdemeanor.  After everything we've done, after all women have achieved, after all the shame and pain my mother and her sisters went through, how in the ever living fuck did we get here?
