has there ever been a show with more deplorable characters than this one?  i dont know if any of the writers are from this town but they sure depict as a shithole.   the kids in the restaurant beating up the priest, the father of the dead girl shooting her boyfriend, the other father that threw a rock through mare's window, the bullies of the down syndrome kid, the kids that setup a fake account and led the dead girl to believe she was going on a date, the stealing and burning of the diaries.....

its just one immoral act after another on this show.

Not sure, but she’s one of the last people to see her alive (other than creepy deacon), she may know about Erin and her Dad, perhaps she’s had a relationship with Erin... but I also do sense something is up with Frank Sheehan’s new fiancé, I found it odd in the early episodes how they kept portraying her as some sort of saint. The deacon cousin is also a possibility as both baby daddy and murderer, and he also could have access to a weapon at Mare’s house.

I just obviously think the bullet comes back as Mare’s 🤣. It would be a great cliffhanger for the penultimate episode.

I said in an earlier post but I think her ex is going to reveal something as some sort of retaliation after catching her make out with her new gf.

The only surprising aspect of this is that the show wasn’t based in Ohio.

I agree with others:

1.  Uncle is Baby Daddy.  Bottle is for DNA testing.  Agree with others who said that.  He gave her necklace.  But not the Uncle that everyone thinks who had her stay in her basement.  He's nervous because he knows the truth with what his brother did when she stayed there.

2.  Trying to figure out what fake Baby Daddy, best friend, and the other guy were doing?  Just taking the money?  Why burn the diaries?  Seems like something in there might implicate them somehow in Erin's murder.  Obviously fake Baby Daddy was not at his house that morning.  Don't understand the burn the diaries motive if they aren't involved in the murder - but the preview practically made him out to be the killer so he's probably not the killer.

3.  Another question - why was Erin scheduling the surgery and cancelling?  Was someone stealing her whore money from her?   She had the secret envelope which means she was whoring for the money.

4.  I agree with others that the old lady hitting a tree and the pervy neighbor storyline seems like too much for a throwaway joke about the affair with the Mom.

5.  I like the fiancee sleeping with Mare's best friend's husband angle.

6.  Agree that the beard comment may mean he had a partner, but I think he had to have shaved.  Ex-Husband and both of Erin's uncles have beards.    Restaurant owner father has a thin-ass beard as well.

So many suspects, but agree that Erin's killing was not related to the others.

Well, after this episode, I still think a bit of a reverse NeverMarryAStripper action happened and it’s not as cut and dry as it appears.

So seems pretty clear that...

Spoiler

John knocked Erin up, Billy killed her at John’s request, now John is going to off Billy before he confesses.

Yea I don't think it is as clear as Billy did it all.  The mystery photo definitely changed the chief's mind on who is responsible.  And John is obviously the asshole of the two and capable of being behind it all.  But maybe his wife is also shady.....?  Threesome..with Erin?  Weird shit went on at the family reunion..

So what is Dylan's deal?  Was he hired to help clean it up...or protecting someone?  Just being an asshole?

My prediction

Think the engagement party went awry and thats why Frank’s fiancee was checking out. Frank, Billy, and Jon order escort. All hell breaks loose when Erin shows up to the park. The confession was going to be a group confession.

Still dont know what Dylan’s up to. Think maybe they had a side hustle. Blackmail scheme maybe. That’s just too many people knowing about Erin’s murder

Agreed...at this point Mare needs to finish this to make a step towards getting her shit together.  And ridding this small town of dirty men.

So I guess the Guy Pearce character is just a love interest after all..? Hell the whole town may be in on Erin and just trolling Mare at this point.

Question for those who are caught up.

Spoiler

So the bullet they found was from Mare’s father’s gun or her own, right?  Who had access?  Thought that the twist would involve Siobhan but that’s looking less likely now (but still possible)

Pic is of John and Erin. Biggest thing to give it away is that the receipt for the necklace just said “Ross,” not Billy Ross.

that said, there’s obviously some intrigue on how billy became either the murderer or convinced he was the murderer. Could have been drunk and blacked out or something and John gaslighted him. Billy’s resentment reveals he knows John is just as responsible.

One thing that is definitely interesting is that John and Frank are each other’s alibis for that night late and Frank’s fiancée bailing is likely indicative of something bad.

I think Mare has to die this next episode.

Her grandson's mom has stayed clean even in temptation and will get custody.  It was the first drop off where she wasn't antagonistic towards the mom.

Her daughter has the opportunity to get out of that hellhole but won't if her mom is still there.

She made a clean break with Guy Pearce.

She confronted her grief over her son's death at her last visit with the therapist.

She finally resolved the lingering missing girl case.

She has nothing left to do other than bring the Rosses to justice.

Some items.

  • Billy's gun, in the tackle box, is a .45, not the murder weapon
  • Not sure wtf is going on with Dylan
  • I suspect Billy feels responsible for Erin's death, but didn't do it, but why the blood
Spoiler

Perhaps Dylan became jealous of Billy after the reunion, hence why he and Erin are no longer together.  Erin asked Billy to meet her at the park because of the catfishing drama/trauma, but Dylan was following and Billy got bloody handling her body.

Because Billy moved the body.

Assumed it was John’s gun in the tackle box that Billy found, John obviously going to kill Bill.

My guess on Dylan is that he was the pimp of the girls?

if John really killed Erin but Billy was willing to take the rap, why does John need to kill Billy?  Billy was ready to confess to the police.  then John says, "hey, let's go fishing one last time before you turn yourself in."  why not just let Billy confess?  John would get away with murder.

my guess is that, in order to explain why he killed Erin (or why he thinks he killed Erin), Billy was going to have to get into some devious stuff that implicated John, maybe Frank.  Erin was probably hooking on the side to pay for the surgery.  she did have a stack of cash.  John and Frank were probably customers.  we know Frank went over to Erin's house.  he wasn't the father of the baby, but he was probably having sex with Erin.  maybe Faye knew something was off and split.  and we know John can't keep his dick in his pants.

so John is going to kill Billy but make it look like a suicide.  then John can say that Billy confessed to him, and John's dad can back up his story because he saw Billy covered in blood that night.

but that picture that Jess brought in must make it clear that Billy didn't kill Erin.

can't wait for the finale.

Oh.  Fair.  I thought it was Billy's tackle box and he forgot that it was in there.  But that makes sense.

Also, it has been assumed by Lori that the affair was with this Sandra person, but Ryan didn't actually say that, IIRC.

Interesting angle on Dylan.  Hadn't considered.

Interesting.  I like the Dylan was the pimp idea.  Explains why they haven't really showed what he does for work...and he rolls with his lil homie now..

Yea I'm still confused on why Billy is convinced he did it...he seems "simple" but not that much.  I know John makes him repeat the admission.

But I think Billy KNOWS he didn't actually kill her...and that he is protecting someone.  But he wouldn't protect John...so maybe John's son somehow is involved out of jealousy?? Got ahold of an old pistol somehow...just not sure how he was out there in middle of the night.  And could explain why John has been consoling Ryan....

I'm ready for a twist...don't think it's John or Billy.

When they made the comment that the murder weapon was a snub nose police revolver like one all cops like Mare's dad had back in the day, that had to be in the script for a reason.  If there's one thing this show has been really good about is not leaving anything dangling.  They've also shown that Siobhan gets fucking crazy when high and she's high pretty often.  Maybe after rescuing Erin, she made a move on her and was rebuked. In anger she shot her. No idea how the Rosses would fit in that scenario.

Yeah it seemed pretty clear to me that John wanted to grab the tackle box but Billy got to it first.

if Dylan was a pimp, that means he had a steady supply of cash.  why wouldn't he have used that money to help pay for DJ's surgery?  at the time Erin died, he still thought DJ was his son.  yet he wouldn't give Erin money for the surgery.

maybe he was pissed at Erin for having the kid instead of having an abortion, and he was gonna make her earn the money the hard way.

When they mentioned the gun, my first thought went to Siobhan as the killer.  Add in her not telling her mother anything after Erin winds up dead the night after taking her from a beating at the party.  Motive could be a "baby daddy" confession about someone in her family, maybe her dad or uncle?  Erin threatens to expose her whole family and she shoots Erin to stop that?  Then she calls Billy to help move the body?

I just don't see Mare's daughter as going from helping her to killing her.  She does get crazy when fucked up, but she seemed sober when helping Erin.  And Siobhan (dumb name) has been pretty damn normal for the most part, aside from missing her bro and the lesbian stuff.  She would have cracked by now if she did it.

Good to see they are airing the finale even on holiday weekend.

Maybe I missed something but I never got why anyone suspected Guy Pierce. He has the most rock solid alibi of anyone - he was railing Mare while the murder happened, right? There wasn't time for him to do both, because Mare got home at like 2 or 3 in the morning. Her mom even called her out on coming home so late.

I had the same thought but I really hope it doesn’t go that route. There are enough deplorable characters with potential motives for murder that they don’t need a last minute reveal of an unlikely killer to make the show great. They’ve done a great job telling the story thus far, now just wrap it up in a way that explains how John, Billy, Frank, and Dylan are all involved.

Scenes typically don’t get included for shits and giggles... there will be a resolution to the bullet found in the tree. Ballistics will come back... and the bullet comes from a gun owned by the city of Easttown Police Department.. registered to Mare Sheehan.

Siobhan Sheehan is the killer of Erin McMenamin.

The bullet is from Mare’s dad’s gun, so not far from my prediction. Siobhan could still be the killer, but the Ross Bros. angle is certainly complicating matters.

Put me in the camp who thinks the smarter Ross, John, is able to manipulate his dumber brother (probably has been doing it their entire lives) and gaslighted Billy into thinking he did it. He has Dad as a witness to a bloody Billy, and told his wife of Billy’s confession. I suspect he took Billy and the gun to the campsite to Kill Bill, make it look like a suicide, and leave behind a fake suicide note. Billy seeing the gun likely scuttled those plans... unless he is as dumb as John thinks.

John’s best bet would be to disappear Billy and make it seem he let Billy run away from the law. He’d have trouble with the suicide story on a fishing trip. We all saw Fredo get it in Godfather 2.

I think Erin was killed at the engagement party at Frank’s house.

Perhaps she called the deacon after the beating to come get her, he put the bike in his car and they talked, and then he let her out somewhere. She then goes to find her uncles at Friendly Frank’s house, where Billy is passed out drunk. Sick of the lies, she threatens to expose John Ross as the father of the baby, and shit goes bad. Why someone has Mare’s dad’s old gun isn’t clear to me now... but there is proximity to the weapon’s location (it’s right next door). I still think Siobhan is involved somehow, perhaps she’s the one who brought the gun. She could have pulled the trigger.

After the deed, John puts the gun in Billy’s hand, smears a little blood on him, wakes him up and asks him, “OMG Bill! What did you do?” Billy is a drunken simpleton and is convinced he did the act. Frank goes along with it. The fiancé saw enough for it to end the relationship. John and Billy then drive Erin’s body to the river.

Why does the Guy Pearce character exist? To be a red herring, but to also be the reason Mare wasn’t around that night to hear a gunshot/suspect something is up.

So, for me, suspects are in this order: John Ross, Siobhan Sheehan, Frank Sheehan, Billy Ross.
