Is Surly more Liberal than Shaggy?

Seems to be, and I'm totally cool with that.  We need diversity, and my interactions compel me to challenge my own belief.  If that comes in the form of pinko, Communist hippiefags and their hatred of God, Liberty and America, so be it.  Glad to have you along!

Yes, not every Trumpkin made it over. Others are here under new names and trying to maintain a lower profile. Some other closer to center shaggy right wingers have seen the anti-Trump light too. At some point even a swam type struggles to defend Trump. This ain't W we are talking about.

And where did swam go?  He's really the pied piper of the shaggy alt right. If he was here, theyd all come out of the woodwork.

^this is all true, but it doesn't make Surly more "liberal". Trump isn't a conservative, he's Trump.

I don't know if liberal is the right term, but most of the hard right loons didn't make it over and the hard left loons became extra SJWy with the move. They exhibit the same flawed mindset, just different answers, so it really isn't much of a change.

Trump wrecked the conservative Republican brand and then pissed on the ashes. Respected conservatives like George Will retired as Trumpism took power. The Republican populists declared victory as the "RINOs" were chased out of the GOP. No longer can conservatives point to the writings of Russell Kirk, Milton Friedman and William Buckley Jr but instead have the ramblings of Ted Nugent and Sean Hannity.

The conservative Republican brand has become indefensible. No one worth their salt wants to be associated with it. The anti-Trump sentiment here has little to do with a louder liberal voice. Instead of arguing over policy we argue over Trump because he has made everything about him.

Tl/DR: The conservative movement has gone full retard and only regards support it now.

I'd settle for a mass migration of socially liberal/fiscally conservatives to the Libertarian Party along with moderates.

The left is going to trot out more and more socialists.  There are few moderate democrats around these days.  It’s going to be interesting.

That's the idea. The millennials and the generation behind them seem very responsive.

And what will they be countered with, protectionism, isolationism, and retardism? The GOP Congress fucked the pooch by abandoning the fiscal conservative platform of the Republican Party.

They should have treated Trump like an invasive species instead of backing him like he was a normal Republican President.

That's the unfortunate crop that Trumpkins are sowing and don't even care. They are laughing their asses off, smug as can be over all them liberal tears. All the while, they are excusing any and all behavior, setting a national precedent that nothing matters. Wait until the socialist-leaning wing of the Democratic party is emboldened by all the pissed off young people finally getting old enough to care about voting. Everything the GOP lets Trump get away with now, establishes that precedent going forward and you aren't going to be laughing when the strap-on is worn by the other side.

Yep. If they think Obamacare is bad, they really don't want to know what's coming.

Most Russian bots haven't found it, yet.

This is the truth. The trolls show up when this board eventually reaches shag level popularity. Scarce resources and all.

Say where has Swam been anyway?

The left doesn't have more socialists. They have 90s Republicans who don't think gays are icky, and immigrants are BAD. Libertarians are dead. That ideology has been destroyed.

Currently, there is a divide in the Democratic Party between moderates and progressives. Hopefully, the moderates win out.

Libertarianism isn't dead or destroyed, it's never been a contender.

In all seriousness, the only real difference seems to be that 3 or 4 alt right Trumpkin posters from Shaggy seem to have been trolls that didn’t make it over here (I guess maybe they really were paid and/or bots?).  Well, that and Hugo accounts for about 3/4 of the content here.  But otherwise it’s the same group of people that were on cloak room.

It sounded outlandish to say that there were pro-Trump bots/paid trolls posting at first. Over time, some of the little stuff definitely implied something was seriously off. Some of them made a lot of basic grammatical mistakes or english usage errors that made them sound foreign.

We're now getting a lot of media reports that the Russians were paying people to post on Reddit, along with other sites. Given how extensive the attempts were in other areas, plus how we're just now finding out about message board imposters, it's plausible.

That's a really good observation because it describes me more closely than I've ever been able to when asked ("you a dem/ liberal?"). I just want a government that takes only what it needs and does the most good with it. The free market is great, but just like the government it needs checks and balances. People's personal lives are just fucking that, personal. Worship how you please but leave me out of it.

I think that's about it.

I think the worst of the right wing trolls and sycophants stayed on the shag and are now moderators, such as 8mofo. Other folks who think the holocaust is a hoax, like CLH are still there too. I'm glad that they get to enjoy all the scat and dumpsterfire that was left for them. But seriously, I took a screenshot of CR just to capture how absurd it is

There was always a sizable amount of people I talked to in college who said they were Libertarian. None of them will admit to it now and were full Bernie guys last cycle. Whether that makes them populists, or naturally changing from their early 20s to fending for themselves, they're not going back.

I just kind assume they go by Alexa web traffic stats.  Surly won't make a spike until game days.

This is why I think the NRA refusing any rules is stupid in the longterm.  The NRA of the 70s was about responsible ownership and was not a cheerleader for gun sales that they are now.

I don't think of it as liberal or conservative.  It's Trumpkins vs. everyone else.

I'm definitely not a liberal but, fuck, Trump and his ilk are fucking insufferable.  Right now, I can stand libs more than what's left of the GOP.  The enemy of my enemy is my friend shit.

Personally, I'd like to kick the shit out of many posters on both sides of the spectrum.
