Per McNulty, floaters are hard to solve. Easier to say it’s an accident. Look at the BAC and drugs in their system. Must’ve hit their head after being drunk.

We have the most successful serial killer of all time.

That river has alwa6s been there, but im sure the recent uptick of floaters is just a biproduct of a growing town.

The new variable is folks all hopped up on Canadian fentanyl, obviously.

The story is sad. RIP to the young teen who drowned and was not wearing his life jacket. It was some underwater shelf.

and on another note:

And there is no way I’m getting in that water. I read the reports of all the toxic algae in that fucking lake. Like it’s just not my thing to swim in toxic waste.

and as I mentioned in the rain thread I’m trying to summon severe weather tonite, it’s my new deal.

anyway details on the latest victim of the lake. Now if someone wants to suggest that some creature is in it taking the lives of paddle boaters that makes more sense. Some super creature who became that way bc of the algae.

“Police said the person pulled from the water has not been positively identified, but the clothing and description match that of the teen paddleboarder who went missing on Sunday.

The teenager was with his family on kayaks and paddleboards in the lake, APD said. He got off his kayak to stand in shallow water and was not wearing a life jacket at the time.

Investigators believe the teen was unknowingly standing near an underwater shelf, which is a sudden drop-off in the lake, when he stepped or slipped off and did not resurface.

The kayak was later recovered with his life jacket and backpack still on it.”

I've been paddle boarding on Town Lake since 2008. I've never had a problem with rashes or gotten sick. It's the same damn water that is in Lake Austin and Lake Travis. I'd rather swim in Town Lake than swim in the Gulf in August with you have a better chance of getting vibrio.

LCRA is always releasing water through the dams. It's not a constant lake where the water sits idle. It gets flushed all year round.

I mean - that doesn't explain how he died. Unless he can't swim. In which case - not sure what the fuck he was doing.

I’m assuming that he could not swim. Didn’t realize there was an underwater shelf. Unless there is a lady bird lake Loch Ness monster…I will never understand people who don’t know how to swim getting into water without a life jacket. Not sure if that’s what happened here but it seems the most logical explanation. It is sad that any teen doesn’t at least have a basic ability to tread water or swim. I wish all kids could be taught (if physically able) to swim by a certain age or at least learn how to tread water or dog paddle or something to get to shore. It’s crazy you could drop like that and not resurface which is what the article is basically saying

It's much filthier than Lake Austin. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

No doubt.  Way more homeless people shitting and dead bodies in Town Lake.

I am routinely in all 3 lakes. Paddle board town lake and boats on the other 2. All 3 have creeks run offs from urban areas and houses. All 3 have pesticide and fertilizer run off. The one area I would stay away from is Waller Creek entry in Town Lake, but mostly after a hard rain. But that applies to most all bodies of water. If you are really worried about Town Lake, stay upstream of Barton Creek.

I spend time in all three bodies of water as well, but Town Lake is the only one I work hard to stay on the surface of.  I'll occasionally kayak it or embarrass myself on a paddle board, but I'm not swimming in it.  I can't remember where I found the info, but Town Lake is decidedly more disgusting than Lake Austin or Lake Travis based on every possible measurement.  Given its location in an urban center, this really shouldn't be a surprise.  To be fair, Lake Travis and especially Lake Austin are both fairly gross too, but nothing compared to Town Lake.

Never mind the toxic algae, the sewage, and the commercial pollutants.  The volume of STDs in Town Lake, based on the crowd that spends the most time in that water, must be staggering.  We might end up ground zero for the next sexually transmitted pandemic based on what's brewing in those waters. ;)

It depends on when and where. With the drought, there's not much run off of herpegonnorsyphillaids. Stay upstream of Shoal Creek and Waller Creek which are the waste canals through the city. After a rain, just don't get in the any of the 3 lakes for a few days.

Town Lake upstream from Mopac is basically Lake Austin water.

As a kid growing up in the late 70’s and 80’s in Austin, I was indoctrinated into the camp of Town Lake being the equivalent of the nuclear lake in The Simpsons. I’ll never get that out of my head so it always grosses me out seeing all the paddle boarders out on the lake.

Nothing particularly wrong about the police conduct in this video, other than being terrible shots....cant believe this dumbass made it through that barrage relatively unscathed. Looks like he might have taken one in the shoulder.

Saw it on the news last night, someone said he fired every round he had.  Curious of all the shots fired how many were from the driver vs APD.  A lot of smoke being expelled outward, and not much going inward.

And I also heard on the news the driver had a clavicle injury, likely GSW.  Had to feel good climbing out with the hands up.

First officer grouped a decent size on the windshield, problem was, the driver wasn't behind the group.  You can assume he'd ducked down below the window and line of fire.  To hit him you'd need to fire through the hood, and penetrate the car console/steering column.  Either way he wasn't going anywhere.  Even if he was upright, the angle of impact causes significant deflection and even yaw of the round.  Think trying to hit a fish underwater.  You also might also assume they're using HP's, which are highly unpredictable on hard surfaces vs. standard ball-ammo.

Then you have the adrenaline dump after the car chase and your fine motor skills go to shit.  Point of the story, hitting anything with a pistol is fucking hard.

Thought that was coming from the driver towards the cops

You might be right - if so, this MENSA candidate has a broken clavicle AND busted eardrums.
