New QB and 1 returning OL in a year where a lot of teams are stacked with returnees across the board.  How does that translate to #6?

Totally agree. How good is that running game going to be when teams dare Calzada/King to throw the ball early in the season to prove they’re any good?  Yeah their defense is good, but I can’t imagine their offense being nearly as dynamic as last year when Mond was running the show.

Good veteran defense and no one expects anything but eye-gouging 13-16 wins out of Jimbo teams anyway.

They start with

Kent State

Colorado (N)

New Mexico

Arkansas (N)

Mississippi State

So they have time to figure it out. Hell they only have 3 real road games all year.

Saturday Blitz

Pac-12

Most overrated: USC Trojans

USC is another program like Texas in the Big 12 — resources that are matched by very few other athletic programs, a prestigious history, and typically overrated entering a new season. The Trojans certainly fit the bill for the 2021 season, checking in at No. 13 in the ESPN preseason Top 25.

Sure, the Trojans return plenty of talent from a team that went 5-1 last year’s shortened campaign, with the only loss coming to Oregon in the Pac-12 championship game. With some of the ups and downs of head coach Clay Helton’s run in Los Angeles, though, it’s fair to question if USC deserves the 2021 preseason praise.

Playmakers must be found to replace guys like wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (drafted by the NFL’s Detroit Lions) and running back Stephen Carr, who ran for more than 1,300 yards last season before transferring to Indiana this summer.

Opening the season with a resurgent San José State program should worry Trojans fans.

While the pre-season polls are fun, I think we should do away with them.  They influence the in-season rankings too much and overrated teams with inflated records benefit from that at the expense of the teams who should be ranked in their place.

Also, in on first page.

If 12 team playoff system gets approved, the preseason polls hopefully will have less influence...

I'd like to use the polls as part of a BCS type formula for purposes of seeding the teams for the first round (quarterfinal?) of the playoff.

Top 5 seems pretty obvious and then a massive drop off after that.  A&M does seem a bit high but no obvious snub that should be in front of them.   Agree they shouldn't even release polls this early.  Let the first few weeks play out and we'll have a better idea where #6-#25 should be slotted.

aggy has a Charmin soft beginning to the season, they likely wont drop until reality sets in with Bama.

They kicked the crap out of Iowa State last year. For whatever that's worth.
Not exactly kicked the crap out of them, more like caught them sleeping and had some fortunate things go their way. If ISU plays them again the following week there likely is a reverse ass kicking.

I thought they looked like the more athletic and better team. ISU certainly played much better later in the year.

SARK...   🤘

On the "Horns Down" gesture: “I don’t really have a feeling. I didn’t know it was such a big deal. I kind of took it as a little bit of a sign of endearment. We have a pretty cool deal here. Our horns are up. We believe in it. We take a lot of pride in it. If you want to celebrate by putting horns down and you care that much about us, I don’t know. I kind of think it was a little bit of a term of endearment. It’s whatever. If they call a flag, whatever. If they don’t, they don’t.”

Dynamic is being polite. They were the #37 scoring offense last year against teams they beat that went 30-50 combined. The 17 points they scored against winless vandy hurt their stats for sure.

I just meant dynamic from the standpoint that they had effective passing and running offenses.

I can’t imagine that Calzada or King is going to light the world on fire early in the season,  so #6 is way too high for them. I’d say they’re more in the 10-15 range.

They could easily fuck around and lose one of those.

We'll never schedule another FCS team again and haven't for a long time. Let aggy keep doing that shit, getting raped by bama, and missing any/every chance to play for something meaningful. It's one of the last attributes to "We're Texas" that we can be proud of.

It wouldn't shock me if we are forced to schedule an FCS opponent at (relatively) short notice when we have to adjust our schedules for the move to the SEC.  But we would only do it out of necessity.  We will never do it as a matter of routine.

I'm banking on realignment fixing this issue for any (potential) G5 teams that get pulled up to the Pwhatever. Or should I say, those that get left behind... Either way, fuck that fcs bs.
