Damn, it's embarrassing to have so many people going on and on and on about being penalized for playing - and losing - a big-time OOC game. If anything, we in fact get plus marks for playing tOSU closer than their other 11 games.

No, get the fuck outta here with that "OOC big-game loss keeping us out of the champeenships" bullshit.

What keeps us out is the other two losses. Most of all, Florida. That was pathetic... actually, it was asswater, am I right? Yes, I fucking am. How the fuck do you come off a bye, with a full extra week to prepare, and lose to Florida? What the fuck was the coaching staff, from the top down, doing for those two weeks? It damn sure wasn't preparing for Florida.  Fuck me.

After Florida, we knew, absofuckinglutely knew, we had to win out... at least to the point of being in the CCG, with a pretty-much guaranteed CFP berth there, win or lose.

Beating UGa was a requirement. Again, we came off a bye, and again we were unready, outplayed, and outcoached. Coffin, meet nail.

One last time: losing to tOSU didn't put us out of the CFP. Losing to UGa didn't put us out of the CFP, even though it was the proverbial Last Straw. Nope. What put us out of the CFP was being humiliated by a team that was ready to - and did - fire their HC.

Asswater.

You realize that both can be true right?

Replace OSU with a cupcake OOC game that we win, we're a lock for the playoffs

Don't shit the bed against Florida and we are a lock for the playoffs

Both are true

No.

The tOSU game is not the problem.

The UGa game is only part of the problem.

The Florida game is the problem.

Losing inexplicably to asswater is the problem, and the thread title spells it out for you: This is who Steve Sarkisian is.

With SEC going to 9 conference games there is no point in those OOC games. Our SOS will still be top 25 in the country without those games. You may not like it but it's the smartest thing we can do to ensure an easier path to playoff. It's more important to play those big OOC games in Dec/Jan than it is Sept.

So if we beat Florida but lost to A&M, we're in?

The tOSU game might be the problem or it might not.   My question is if Indiana beat tOSU as unlikely as that might happen,  how much credit does tOSU get for their win over us to justify a higher seed vs the other one loss teams in line?   If the committee gives it more weight,  then this should work in our favor.

But yes beating Florida even by one lousy point  even in OT would've made this mute, I think?   I mean say what you will about our loss to UGA, but UGA itself didn't look like a top tier team against Florida and needed help from the Kirby loving SEC Refs along the way.

Asswater.

The OSU loss IS one of three losses. They are not getting in becuase they have 3 losses.

It quite literally doesn't matter who they're to.

They could have lost to Miss St and Florida and beat Georgia and played Purdue instead of OSU and they'd still be in with just 2 losses. An OSU victory doesn't help us in the slightest except for one less loss.

The AMOUNT of losses matter, not who they're to.

Exactly.  Losing to Florida is A reason they're out.  It's not THE reason.  Losing to Georgia AND OSU are just as big.

No, the problem is there are 3 losses. None is worth more or less than any others.  Losing to aggie instead of Florida wouldn't change them not being a playoff team.

Beating Rice instead of losing to OSU would have made them easily a playoff team.

This isn't complicated. Don't lose to Florida, OR Ohio ST OR Georgia and you're in.

Losing to Florida isn't keeping them out. Losing 3 times is.  Hope this helps.

Swap Florida for Vandy or Oklahoma and tell the same story.

Arguing playoff rankings is like trying to fight a jello mold.  If we beat Ohio State but lost to Kentucky, we'd still be out. "That Ohio State team has come a long way since the flawed Texas team beat them."

we have one fewer quality wins at that point and still the same # of losses.  we'd still be out.  it's beyond clear that all that really matters moving forward is the number in the loss column.

What are you trying to say? We'd still have 3 losses...that's all that matters. The committee has proven that over and over otherwise we'd be above BYU/Miami/ND and probalby Bama/OU too.  And Michigan damn sure wouldn't have jumped us after we won last week.

Not sure what you were getting at...

It's almost pointless to listen to the committee talk about anything other than the loss column

SOS? OOC games? Top 10 wins? H2H?

It doesn't matter.  CFB has always been about your loss column.  And back in the BCS days, it was when you took the loss - the earlier, the better.

What're conversations between Sark and CDC gonna be like, regarding OOC schedules over the next few years? Think they'll consider dropping Notre Dame in '28 and '29? Would be kinda lame to drop Ohio State and Michigan at home, but I don't love playing Ohio State again with Sayin in year 2.

Going back to Sark himself, my problem with him continues to be that he keeps game planning and play calling as if he has an offensive line to work with. Thankfully, he pulled his head out of his ass in the 2nd half. He needs portal help at O-Line and he needs it pronto.

We should absolutely drop the ND games if the committee leaves Texas out.  Keep OSU and Michigan because we already played the away games.

There is nothing to fear playing tOSU next season.   I might revise that statement depending how they do once they step out of the Big 10 cocoon in the playoffs.

I mean their schedule was pretty much dogshit in a conference that was mostly dogshit this year too.   It's awfully aggy like in the sense they played a bunch of bottom feeders in the Big10 much like aggy did in the SEC.

You're the one that said "X" is the problem. It's not that simple, which is what we're all pointing out to you.

It's exactly that simple. Getting into the show with three losses is only possible in extremely rare circumstances, which, as it happened, didn't occur. Not losing the third game, and especially to Florida is the way in. Substituting someone else for Florida is pointless, but you just keep on pointing.

This is where I am.  No reason to drop home games with tOSU and Michigan the next two years, but I'd get out of the Notre Dame series (and possibly the Arizona State series as well) if Texas is ultimately left out.  Replace them with teams like Boston College and Purdue.  It sucks, but until it is shown that something other than your total # of losses matters, no reason to risk losing games out of conference anymore.  Win out in the non-conference portion of the schedule and then go 7-2 or better in conference.  That's the formula moving forward.

The problem with this strategy is that we don't know how good any P4 team will be years down the road. Sankey and the SEC have mandated that the OOC skeds include at least one P4. What looks like a cupcake now may not be in 2028 and '29 with the portal and NIL.

It wasn't long ago that Wake Forest competed for the ACC championship. aggy ducked them in a bowl game, remember?

No, like he said, y'all are both right.

You handle your business against the teams you're supposed to, you're in. True

You don't go on the road the first game of the season against a top 2 team in the country that you understandably lose to, you're probably in.

There's a whole sloppy thread about how to get into the Group of Twelve with three losses. Yes, it's possible, albeit with extremely low probability.

The point here is being ready to play after - let's see: 8 months, two weeks, and two weeks - of time to actually get ready. We weren't, all three times.

The stories of personal problems, rehab(s), benders would seem to explain the lack of preparation. If true, it seems entirely reasonable to suppose that CDC has kompromat on Sarkisian sufficient to cover "for cause" firing, if it comes to that.

My thought is that Del Conte believes reasonably-sober Steve can helm a winning program, and that he believes Steve can manage his problems. I agree that it's possible, and I think CDC and Sark have had that come-to-Jesus talk, and that it led to a list of achievements required... what we're seeing right now, with Sark advocating tirelessly for that CFP slot, is the result of that meeting and those trquirements.

Here's hoping it all works out for all concerned... including us.

Life experience. You wouldn't believe the trouble you can get in by removing the wooden micro-pallet from the bottom of the mini-fridge in your hotel room and leveling the damn thing so you can actually hear yourself think.

3 losses is the issue.  we are out no matter what with 3 losses

the Florida game was the easiest of the 3 to win and we should not have lost that game
