Who wants to bet that Nico's brother NIL deal was part of Nico's number?

Arky going after his buyout.  Spoilered for $9.95

Spoiler

It's accepted that Arkansas freshman quarterback Madden Iamaleava is transferring to UCLA.

But Arkansas isn't going to let that happen without at least a little bit of a fight.

According to many reports, the Arkansas NIL Collective, Arkansas EDGE, is legally attempting to essentially make Iamaleava buy out of his NIL contract.

The 6-3, 190-pound freshman, who was a four-star prospect in the 2025 class out of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, enrolled at Arkansas early, in time to particpate in spring practice. To many observers, he shined on the field, was slated to be the third-string quarterback in the program and described as a future starter.

A couple of weeks ago, his older brother, Nico Iamaleava, who was the returning starting quarterback at Tennessee, decided to leave the Volunteer program and transfer to UCLA. The younger brother also made the decision to follow those footsteps to Westwood.  He entered the portal about a week ago.

But there is that little issue of NIL money.  Arkansas EDGE is seeking roughly $200,000 in what is essentially a buyout of Madden's NIL contract. Madden signed a one-year NIL agreement with Arkansas EDGE reportedly worth about $500,000. To date, apparently he's been paid about $100,000. Sources say that, according to the contract's terms, any departure from the program before completing the contract commitment could make Madden liable for 50% of the remaining value of the contract, which would amount to the $200,000.

Arkansas EDGE sent out a demand letter to Madden Iamaleava, requesting payment. It clearly didn't get the results it preferred, so Monday it was reported the Arkansas NIL Collective hired a prominent attorney, Tom Mars, to enforce Madden's buyout. Mars is well-known for his legal work in college sports, including having represented Jim Harbaugh.

Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek publicly said he supported the Collective's effort to enforce the NIL agreement.

UCLA has yet to officially announce Madden Iamaleava's commitment. There's a possibility the NIL dispute with Arkansas could be contributing to a delay in that announcement.

As a result of the widely accepted development that Madden would follow his older brother to UCLA, two very promising young quarterbacks who participated in UCLA's spring practice, Robert McDaniel and Dermaricus Davis, submitted their names to the transfer portal.  Head coach DeShaun Foster said in an interview from practice last week that there's a chance Davis could return to UCLA, however.

This just shows you how truly stupid many of the programs and collectives are right now. Madden Iamaleava couldn't hold Trey Owens or KJ Lacey's jock and yet he was set to make more in NIL than those two, combined. What a clusterfuck of idiots between the Arky collective, the Arky coaches, and the Iamaleavas.

You have to overpay to get people to come from SoCal to places like Fayetteville and College Station.

Do you think we may see NIL get as lopsided as the peak days of the SEC bag game during the 2010’s? I imagine there will be a compounding effect with well run NIL organizations raising the quality and success of their teams which will then raise the NIL value of its players.

I think it's more likely that schools with success and corporate NIL opportunities (that exist independently of the team or collective) will get a Saban-style discount on their NIL budgets. The NFL's bag is still the bag, and I'm betting that a school who can get you to the NFL won't need to put as much NIL on the table to recruit you successfully.

I'm sure there are mercenaries and dumb uncles who can only think of short term gain, but I'd be willing to bet that UT, OSU, Bama, UGA, etc. don't have to overpay for players like the Imealeavas.

"pubic availability" ???

How much Tennessee Athletics Director Danny White made to lead the nation

By John Brice          Jul 2, 2025

In about four weeks, Danny White will get a contract extension at the University of Tennessee for his role as athletics director.

He'll be signed onto the top post on Rocky Top for a six-year term, one that rolls forward every year on July 31 as part of the renegotiated pact that White inked last summer.

Now, as the Knoxville News Sentinel first reported, White has emerged from the tattered mess that Phillip Fulmer and Jeremy Pruitt left behind to become college athletics' highest-paid athletics director -- at least among public institutions who are required to disclose employees' salaries.

After receiving a 20-percent bump in base salary a year ago, from $2.2 million to $2.75, White also saw Tennessee athletics excel across a number of sports -- and that, in turn, generated the magic number in White's incentives compensation: $600,000 in bonus bucks. In total, White made $3.35 million.

One of the most significant elements to White's bonus structure -- the Learfield Director's Cup for overall athletics success across all sports -- was just finalized in the past couple of weeks. Tennessee finished No. 6 in the nation -- second in the SEC and less than 200 points behind Cup winner Texas.

Once UT clinched the top-10 finish, White clinched a nine percent bonus of his base salary -- a $247,500 jackpot that accounted for almost half of White's bonus compensation.

Additionally, Tennessee's at-large berth in last year's first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff netted White an extra three percent on his base income, or $82,500 for the Vols' opening-round loss at eventual national champion Ohio State.

White's second contract amendment that he inked with Tennessee in November 2022 had specified White would receive an automatic five-percent pay increase each year on the July 31 rollover term. He also receives 10 courtesy flights per year on UT's jet.

FootballScoop reviewed White's entire contract via its pubic availability
