I mean…this is the thing: this is what Texas is doing. But….WHY?
There’s no actual policy reason for it, other than than to be mean dicks.
Our entire national convening ethos is “good government is performative bullshit showing you mean you can be to out groups.” The mean assholery is the entire purpose, point, and mission.
Well, not the whole thing - my bad. In cases of economic dickishness to our groups, the purpose is ALSO funneling more money and power to billionaires. But it all comes back to just being dicks.

There’s that. There’s also defiance and vengeance.  For the last 20 years the liberal media been pushing equality, fairness and tolerance l.   This is payback. This is Texas.  Only the strong!!

Huh? Payback? We’ve done a Friendsgiving on semi regular occasion - you know Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving you have friends over and in some instances it’s for people who don’t have family for a variety of reasons - and in our community it’s many times because of vitriol and hate. The invite and the tangible act of inviting people to our home to sit at our table is symbolic - EVERYONE deserves a seat at the Thanksgiving table.

so this woke shit and liberal media shit and payback and blah blah blah is fucked up nonsense. Either you agree EVERYONE deserves a seat at the American table or they don’t. If you don’t agree you are a piece of fucking shit.

its black and white and its the sole reason why i cannot abide.

and for the record, not one fucking cis gender man on this board can out tough me. I guaran-damn-tee you. I’ve seen some shit, I’ve given some shit, I’ve put up with some shit, and I keep winning. So staying or leaving has not one fucking thing to do with being strong.

Texas, the friendly state my ass.

Check your old pms.  You and I have chatted.  You know where I stand

Ok then my post remains for anyone who thinks this issue is complex. It isn’t. Either you (the general you) think people belong or you don’t think they do, it’s black and white.

I left Texas long ago.  Only regret is my parents wouldn’t come with me.   Hence my post about a more tolerant world outside of Texas.

You’re not the only one this issue is important to.  Hell it may be more important to someone like me

So turnip continues to lie to stoke hatred and cast transgender people as the threatening other. The event is Arizona Trail 800. Yes, the winner record holder was a trans woman whose name is Austin Killips, and yes, she beat the old record by five hours. What turnip’s claim omits is that the record  Killips beat was held by a man, and that the record that man broke was held by a woman. Additionally, Killips record has since been beaten. Obviously, AT800 is open to all who wish (qualify?) to compete,

The coda to this is Killips’ decision on how to use the platform that turnip had given her. She called out lawmakers who feign concern about protecting women’s sports by challenging them to show their concern by adequately funding women’s sports.

I think Killips’ response is the best place to read more, and it is a good read. The AT800 is damn interesting. When a competitor is not pedaling, they are carrying their bike over terrain.

I'm wondering about this Paxton shit --is this just a performative bullshit statement or is he putting enforcement action behind it? And if the latter, would it go county by county, or DPS combing through their records? Would records even identify that a changed gender marker was given, and why? I'm just hoping against hope for the sake of my family that a license issued about a decade ago with a different marker than before won't get flagged. Because this is some extreme horseshit to essentially overrule county courts and a state agency retroactively.

ETA: hoping not just for our own sake, but all those affected, obv .... and didn't Paxton order DPS to compile a list of folks before and DPS was unable to comply?

the dumbest people fucking alive ....

Arkansas Republican bill would ban giving "gender-nonconforming" haircuts to minors.

H.B.1668 would hold liable "any person who knowingly causes a minor's social transition" — including change to clothing or hairstyle.

Penalty starts at $10,000 minimum up to $10 million damages for certain forms of gender-affirming care.

that 10% number is old news. It's been 7-10% for a long time now depending on who does the polling. remember, LGBTQ includes your garden variety homos.

Yep, I’d always heard that about 10% of the population was homosexual.

So here's the thing... most of their lives, those 2 fencers competed in mixed events. Competing in a women's bracket is probably something she has never done until college.

This is just her flying her bigot flag, and getting $5K + attention.

Congrats, I guess.

I'm reminded of when W's press secretary briefed the press on W's Potect American Marriage Act (or whatever ironic name they gave it. More arsenic in the air? Let's name the bill Blue Sky.).

image.png.e6fd99e1dcd34e7ff3b8d862a38a7aef.png

Scott McClellan was barraged with pointed but amusingly impossibe questions such as:

You say prohibiting gay marriage protects marriages in general. From what?

Has your marriage ever been impacted by gay marriage?

Can you give an example of any marriage being affected by gay marriage?

The issue is serious; the press conference trying to justify the prohibition was hilarious. Of course, I think, this was introduced to distract people from the Iraq disaster.

Nice work SLC city council

Maybe my view of Utah demographics has been wrong, but I just assumed the whole state was red-ass MAGA, even its largest metro area.  Good for them.

As a side note, I'm setting foot in Utah for the first time ever in late June for a Park City trip.

Go to Fisher Brewing in downtown SLC. Really cool story. The great-grandson of the original founder brought back his grandad’s brewery 8 years ago.

That is amazing. There is a not insignificant possibility that some DOJ lawyers may get disbarred or suspended based on the arguments they are having to make.

This guy apparently was one Jason Lynch.  Has been in DOJ since 2019, with a prior stint from 2016-2017.  Jarhead, Holy Cross, UVa.

Not obviously a MAGAt hack.

Some of the more obvious hacks, Drew Ensign and Richard Lawson, are coming to court studiously ignorant of administration policies and actions and that seems geared to avoid candor with the court problems.  It also means they're going to lose a lot.

Spineless

Fairly obvious kowtowing to the administration.  But A-B management has been being infiltrated with InBev people.  Although mostly European in focus, it has a lot of Brasilenos and South American Europeans (read into that what you will) that have a kind of reactionary feel to them.  Or did (been out of the A-B loop for a while now).

I've spent a lot of time in SLC for work and like everyone said, it's not what you would expect. Obviously, the Mormon presence is huge and can be felt everywhere. But there is a very active and public LGBTQ+ community. I've been there in June during Pride Month and have seen some fantastic parades. Downtown has a lot of microbreweries, even though the alcohol laws in that state are ridiculous. Because of all the infrastructure that was built for the Olympics, downtown traffic is nearly nonexistent.

The first time I went, I wasn't very excited about going to Utah. But SLC has definitely grown on me through the years.

Just really makes Des Moines look second rate.

As others have mentioned, SLC proper is a bit of an outlier in Utah. The city itself is small in population, like only 200k or so, and the metro area is comprised of a lot of smaller municipalities surrounding SLC proper. There’s a pretty large progressive community in SLC and the LGBTQ+ community is pretty strong. In a previous career stop, Utah was part of my business unit and one of the best physicians that I had working for me was a very open lesbian who I recruited from Portland. She is married to another healthcare provider that works for the University of Utah. They were very happy raising their family in SLC. The problem is, like Texas, religious fanatics control the state government and exert their influence mightily.

Religions come in all forms. They just worship at different altars. Dogma gonna dogma. The tilt against basic biology is a relatively novel take though.
