NFL dudes, do most teams carry 2 QBs on their 53-man roster?  Would 3 be unusual?  (This presumes Quinn would be #3, but maybe he has a shot at #2.)  It would seem to me that with Tua's injury history there might be incentive to go QB-heavy, but I don't know the intracacies of pulling a guy off the practice squad.

3 isn't that unusual.

Sam is actually a good QB - he will be fine for a while on rosters.

He's on the exact opposite end of the spectrum from Ewers in terms of toughness.

Duke was 9-4 in 2025.
The Elk’s last year there in 2023, their record was 8-5.

Ahhhh. So THAT'S why A&M hired him.

Fucking seriously. I'm going to start negging any of you who keep replying to him. And if you go as far as quoting him, I'm gonna find OTHER random posts you've made and neg those as well.

Arguing with Derka about football is like teaching a pig to sing; it wastes your time, and irritates the pig. FUCKING STOP IT.

This was already covered in my pigeon playing chess post, and I don't appreciate you encroaching on my "animal does human things" metaphor territory.

Quinn seems to be the only QB drafted that teams are happy with aside from Milroe and Ward.

Zero shade on Quinn, I'm honestly curious if 3 out 14 QBs drafted in a given year meeting expectations is low, average or high.

This Fox piece reports:

(63.9 percent) were more of a "miss" than a "hit."  From 1st round draft picks.

Spoiler

In 20 years of NFL Drafts, from 2002 through 2023, a startling 39 of the 61 quarterbacks picked in the first round (63.9 percent) were more of a "miss" than a "hit." That included "misses" on more than half of the quarterbacks picked in the top 10 (21 of 37, 56.8 percent) — a startling rebuke of the supposed best of the best.

My lazy searching ass didn't find anything for ALL QBs but 3 out of 14 in 2025 draft is 21.4% which given 36.1% is the success rate of 1st rounder seems pretty on target.

It's also easier to be happy with a guy you took in the 7th for pennies on the dollar. If he's worth a damn then you've already surpassed expectations.

The problem that part of me can't shake is that Ewers is probably going to get hurt this season. I understand why he didn't go in the 1st, but I think the reason he dropped as far as he did is because his injury report said "DO NOT DRAFT" across the top in big red letters. His fragility is the issue, and that won't rear its head until the non-contact jersey comes off. Ewers is a tough kid and will play through injuries, but when he plays hurt is when his game falls apart.

The Dolphins are only going to be happy with him long term if he can stay healthy.

Agree that injuries in 2024 and 2025 seriously hurt his draft stock, but performance, even if while hurt, also factors in to the equation.

Agree that getting him that late and making the 53 would be a huge win for Quinn and the Dolphins.

I really don't see him getting a ton of snaps in 2025 at QB3 so injury is obviously less likely. However, given health issues ahead of him certainly not impossible.

I just looked. The entire AFC in 2024 had 3 QBs on the 53 man.

League rules permit the Broncos and other teams to dress an emergency third quarterback on game days and not have them count towards the active roster.

Saw this referenced in an article about Sam.  Not sure if that means the active roster + plus 1 QB each week but assume so.

——————————————

So they have to be on the 53 man roster but can suit out as the 49th player of the 48 active player roster as long as 1 and QBs are active.
