Isn't that the code on your first picture? "timeisfleeting"

There seems to be different codes for each city but I’ll try when available.  And fuck Ticketmaster.

Banana Blender Surprise goes way back.  My wife went to medical school with the bass player.  I think he is practicing somewhere up in Iowa.
Edit: It was the lead guitar Jason Barker.

I knew those guys. I had a biology class with Conrad at UT and got to know David over the years as well. Allen Oldies Band played our wedding. Good times!

Allen and I used to work together and met David at a party at University Towers.  All good guys.  Did Banana introduce you to your girlfriend?

Wouldn't let them walk her home. Also, I don't recall going to see them that early at the Black Cat but I or my doppelganger is on the back cover of that live album jacket enjoying a Lone Star.

I just drove past this band who set up their own stage and ran an extension cord out to the feeder road of Mopac at the Enfield exit.

So I made three quick right turns, parked, sat in the grass, had a beer.

I've had a pretty crappy week, and this was a much-needed bright spot.

Thanks, guys.

You have to appreciate that kind grind, hustle, doing what they love to do.

That. Is. Awesome.

Which side of Mopac?  I used to own the 2nd house north of Enfield on Newfield (northbound frontage).  Photo looks like it might be the southbound (west) side of Mopac.

Reminds me of

I had to look it up.  They were on the northbound feeder road about halfway between 10th and 11th.

edit:  In college I lived nearby on Waterston and my landlady was the namesake of "Josephine's."  Good times.

"timeisfleeting" is the code for today's presales.  They announced it on the fb.

Only 2000+ people ahead of me.

Got my tickets for Sept 29th in Austin.

Nice.  I got in with that code but not paying $1,000 for lower level in front.    I’ll wait to buy 2nd hand on stub hub the week of concert.

Good times last night at The Hole in the Wall.  Allen Hill made an appearance and sat in on a couple of songs.  Great crowd.

Just saw the prices for Depeche Mode at the Moody Center in September.  GTFO.  Ridiculous.  I saw them in 1988 with OMD and 1990 with Nitzer Ebb.  Today's Depeche Mode is not that Depeche Mode.  Call me when prices tank.

I was at that DM/OMD show in 1988. My freshman year at UT. Good show. Going to New Order in SA. Buddy got $60 tickets, upper level, which I'm fine with. I'm not rushing the stage these days. Thought about seeing DM again, but was afraid to click to see the prices.

Yeah, if there's one show I'm bummed about missing its New Order... somehow things have never aligned.  One of my favorite bands of all time.  I should have gone when they still had Peter Hook.

Nice show yesterday at Antone's with Patrice Pike's band opening up for Soul Hat, at a tribute for KLBJ DJ Johnny Walker after his recent passing.  Hadn't see Patrice Pike for a while but I have decided she's our local Sheryl Crow.  I can still remember her fronting Sister 7 and rocking out at Steamboat so long ago.  But really nice to see Soul Hat again.  The last time I saw them was at Stubbs maybe a decade ago?  But they kicked ass.  I was seeing a lot of music and visiting my old bar homies in the early 90's while I was putting the wife through Pharmacy school.  She was studying her ass off all the time, and I was bored and the Black Cat became part of my regular rotation.

They really were(are) a damn good band.  Nice blast from the past and fuck yes to Bonecrusher once again closing out their set.  Johnny Walker made that song Iconic to myself and many others on Friday at 5 pm when he would thumb his nose weekly at the FCC with his salute to the weekend.

I had forgotten how prescient Johnny Walker was.  I remember the very first SXSW, a $12 wristband to see the bands I was already seeing.  But Andy Langer reminded me that Walker would fondly announce the flight departures to LA and New York as we rid ourselves of the festival interlopers.  I wonder how many of those folks Walker wished farewell live here today?

Anyhow I'll miss you Johnny, and great damn show Soulhat!!!

GenXer’s review of last night’s The Stews show at Granada.

I wasn’t familiar with the band when I stumbled across them looking through Granada’s upcoming shows. I saw a few youtube’s of their live shows. Kinda bluesy. Kinda country. Kinda feel-good. In my mind, I dubbed it “beachball blues”. Their youtube’s were at Smith’s Old Bar in Virginia Highlands in Atlanta. I lived in that area for a couple years and went to that bar a few times. So, I thought I’d go to the show.

There’s a point to this background which relates to the crowd that attended the show.

The band - The lead singer also plays lead guitar. He’s amazing. Damn good guitarist, charismatic, entertaining, plays the guitar his head, chats the audience.  Every song has a part for him to display his guitar chops. Almost feels like a blues jam at times.

The drummer is also really good. He was wailing away on one song and fell off his platform, got back up, and continued on. That was hilarious.

Their catalog is a mixed bag. Some songs are more mature; others have a somewhat uneven amateur transition. One song was just kinda a mess.

I suspect they continue playing the first songs they wrote for their core audience which brings me to…

The audience - GenXer felt like he crashed a fraternity house party. SMU bros and sorority girls aplenty. The crowd was talking through most of the songs. Girls facing away from the stage chatting with their circle of friends. Weird vibe for an old.

After the show, I asked one of the bros wearing his hat backwards what’s the deal with the crowd. He said the band is from Auburn and played a lot of fraternity parties. A couple years ago, they went full time and started touring nationally. A lot of Auburn grads are in Atlanta (and Dallas too apparently). They seem to be very popular with the college crowd. A few songs even attracted the girls to stop their conversations and sing along.

Was also there to see soulhat yesterday. There were a lot of old people drunk at 2:30 in the afternoon. Enjoyed their set, looked like they were having a good time.

I was the guy yelling "You have to leave old people" joking herding folks towards the doors.  Hell I actually might have gone to a show for Speedy Sparks at C-Boys had I known earlier.  A great lineup there, Yard Dog party w/ Waco Brothers (11:00), Jon Langford & the Far Forlorn (10:00), the Silos (9:00), Churchwood (8:00), Wild Seeds (7:00), Casey Neill (6:00), Bob Schneider (5:00), Jon Dee Graham & William Harries Graham (4:00), Alice Spencer & Brian Beattie (3:20), Ethan Azarian (3:00)
which we caught the last encore song). Sort of nice to have my wife not drink, as we hung at C-boys a little while, then went to Sagebrush which I had not been to before and saw Chili Cold Blood who was hosting a chili cook off.  Chili Cold Blood was pretty good as well.  They had an interesting blending of genres and were putting on a pretty solid show.

Went to the Austin Music Awards tonight -- my daughter's band was nominated in 3 categories, Best New Act, Best Punk Band, Best Residency.

They swept it.  Holy fuck.

Yeah I thought they might kick ass.  Thus my earlier in the week thoughts of attendance. My 8 hour shift of day concerts and jack Daniels made me opt to rest on Sunday.

Congrats to the proud Papa.  Now I have to make sure I see during SXSW. Before they start their world tour and never come back... (just kidding DAD!)

Gonna be in Seattle the weekend New Order and the Rev are in Dallas. So no go on them.

Tempted to see Buckcherry in Oklahoma on Mar 31 but I’ve got tix for Houndmouth in Ft Worth on Apr 1. May be biting off more than I chew with those drives from north Dallas.

Violent Femmes touring to celebrate 40th anniversary of their self-titled album, which remains a fucking classic to this day. Only a few dates thus far, not sure if more will be added but they're hitting the Dallas-Houston-Austin trifecta in mid-May. I'm planning on the 5/16 show at HOB in Dallas. Any presale passwords would be most-appreciated.

Same reason I passed on them like 10 years ago the last time they came through Dallas. I think they've only played in Dallas a couple of times ever.

It won't be the same minus Hook but I'm going anyways.

At this point, I have tickets for 15 concerts between Mar and end of June. My wife is beginning to audit my expenditures. I’m gonna have to find creative ways to procure them. Haha.

I’m in on the femmes in Dallas. They hold a special place in my heart from high school.

I spoke with Britt Daniel of Spoon at the Austin Music Awards on Sunday night.  Apparently they're going out with Weezer this summer.  Are they on those bills?
