Sure, Harris could be a “source.” But so is everybody in our AD. I don’t think people realize how well connected Bobby is. And that’s understandable, because unlike many in his profession, he actually operates like a professional. He’s not name dropping, crusading, or putting his own interests above those of the people/sources that confide in him. Hell, I can’t even get him to tell me a secret when I find a way to make it attorney-client privilege. We’re lucky to have him.

Also, I’m in Nashville and there are some damn good pizza places here. We aren’t competing with Vandy for any 5 stars are we?

Five point pizza in Nashville is excellent

One of the things that has helped everyone, from donors to CDC to Sarkisian to coaching staff to Harris, is simply time. Most of the network and infrastructure is no longer unfamiliar. Yes, there have been a few new coaches, but that's about it. As folks are in the same roles for longer, they get better. Another factor, however, is that their flaws also become better understood and good managers are able to either help people work on those areas, or account for that weakness in some other way.

Last year and prior to that, Harris was not ready for prime time. He's allegedly in better shape these days, but I highly doubt he's some skilled guru that is in high demand on the open market. He's still somewhat inexperienced and immature and he's buoyed by literally the best resourced program in the world.

Sarkisian is something of a micromanager around the roster, so he's not going to be repeatedly surprised when the same shit rears its head with each big recruitment or position group. Kenny Baker's been here a year+ and that helps, but he also no longer has to beg for attention and resources at DT. He had to throw fits after watching the May/June debacle last year and that changed things there, as an example.

Most lessons aren't learned through success, in my experience. Overcoming failure and adversity leads to growth and experience, then hopefully success and wisdom. If you choose to learn at all. Tom Herman is a narcissist. He's been incapable of true growth and learning since the narcissism framed up his personality in puberty, most likely. Nothing is ever his fault, so what is there to learn? Sarkisian is the opposite of that. He's empathetic and introspective. That's almost to a fault, I think.

This is an introspective staff, led at the top by a guy who clearly is such. I'm just hoping that that finds its way into the red zone planning and playcalling this season. Allegedly the TE/A-back coach and Neal Brown are involved with just that, but we'll see.

I mean, it's probably as simple as a solid zone read and/or QB draw play with a big and capable athlete at QB will solve like 50% or more of the problem, right?

And don’t waste downs on fade routes which rarely work.

Yes.  I'd rather go spread early and try to throw or QB draw in, or normal formation and zone read than go jumbo, personally. And yes the fade route needs to be killed with fire down there. Shovel pass also seems like it ought to work pretty often and be a decent constraint play if your wide receivers can't win in a small space regularly in the end zone. RB flairs.  Seems like if Arch can be helpful we can run a lot more normal offense and it shouldn't be a big problem.  Quinn's immobility and our OL being better at pass blocking in than run blocking was the main problem, imo, down there.  Will be interesting to see what personnel differences do to this issue.

Run the naked bootleg and in the rare chance that it doesn't work... run it again!

I like the QB middle screen where the OL lets the defense in and Arch passes to himself before running between the hashes.

is there a plan for or personnel assigned to "clock management and situational awareness"??

Our clock management hasn't really been our issue, compared to punching the ball in from the red zone generally.

I don’t think this argument applies, unless you’re speaking generally.

When you have a QB like Arch Manning and receivers like DeAndre Moore, averages aren’t always relevant. I would bet fades are relatively low-success in the NFL, too, but certain combinations—for obvious reasons Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison or Reggie Wayne comes to mind—can make a play work more often than mediocre players. (Of course the QB and receiver have to “like” the play in the first place, but I think I’m getting the point across.)

I think it’s pretty bold to lump Deandre Moore in with guys like Harrison, Wayne, or Calvin Johnson

Point taken. Just meant it’s not necessarily a valid comparison between the average and Arch Manning and a first-round caliber receiver. Who cares if the average combination can only convert x play successfully y% of the time when you have Arch Manning and a receiver he trusts who have been working on the route all offseason?

Fade route is a low percentage play that ignores the "data" that guys like Sarkisian fall back on to justify idiotic decisions in games like taking points off the board to go for it, etc. The fade is nothing but a shitty vanity play for OCs and their hot shot QBs. Sarkisian will likely call it 50 times this year, score on 5 of them, and then be throwing inside the red zone in a tight game in the playoffs as everyone pulls their hair out. It should go the way of the wishbone and the wing-T.

I like DeAndre Moore just fine, mainly as the dude who strives to be the culture ambassador for the team (learning from JWhitt, who learned from Roschon), and he improved greatly last year. But he needs to be a lot more consistent before he’s considered a first rounder, unless I’ve missed some mocks that would surprise the hell out of me. I hope he becomes Golden-like this year, it will only be good for the team. And Arch will be the first to tell you he doesn’t yet deserve some of the praise he gets.

A well coached and well performed back shoulder fade is pretty damn good play. Regulars fades I can agree with.

I was surprised, but McShay had him in the first round. At the end of the first round, and only if he “continues to improve,” but that was the source.

Any pass completed less than 40% of the time while the average yards per attempt is less than 20 should never be called as a play ever again. I don't give a fuck if John Gruden and Colt McCoy are from prior generations and really get off on it still.

Nahlin has been raving about him for a year. I don't see it. He seems like he should be a tertiary weapon at best for a good offense. If he is a dude that goes on the first 2 days in this years draft (to be clear I'm betting against) this offense is going to fuck.

You’re right, I see McShay has him at #30 to the Buffalo Bills. Hell, I hope he becomes DeVonta Smith and wins the freaking Heisman and goes much higher than that, it means we had a great season. But McShay also has six Clemson players in the first round, which would be the greatest number by any team, ever. They have some dudes, but that ain’t happening. He also has Ant Hill at something like 19, our only other first rounder. If we have a season like we expect to have, perhaps someone else elevates… Goosby maybe. Ok, back to recruiting lol.

But what if Arch can complete back shoulder fades at a 60% pop with 15% of those being touchdowns

I don’t think we truly know how good he can be given what he had to work with. Same goes with Wingo and any other receiver the last couple of years.

But he's not brain damaged, he's just really fucking stupid and does a fuck ton of drugs and is really fucking stupid. Had to be said twice.

First- you need to get out of your feelings

Second - I kicked the drugs

Third - you're a cat lady, so that makes sense with your temper.

What if you had worked out more? Maybe grown a few more inches? Then maybe rohypnol might not have had to be a big part of your strategy.

We can do the “what if?” game for anything.

It’s a dumb play call.

Get fucked with your passive aggressive bullshit here. Some of us have dealt directly with the guy, and his boss, and every other part of the machine. Guys can get better at what they’re doing. You don’t get to retroactively use posts to talk shit about the current situation. The guy currently singing Harris’ praises was one of the biggest voices last summer about the guy’s issues, dummy. He just can’t go out and declare that the his audience at the time. Ironically, some of us were able to say something, and then we get to see this kind of shit for passing it on.

In short, if you are thrown a fucking bone, we don’t need to hear how it tastes.

Fuck, dude. Are you really like this outside of your message board tough guy persona? You need to look into Hinduism and check yourself. You take shit too seriously for anyone to take you seriously.

Fuck off with your negative bullshit. It's in every fucking thread. You just have to take a shit on someone and thump your chest. Fucking chill the fuck out for a change.

Not every OC throws the end zone fade at volume. And yes, most coaches are not very bright. Very few OCs are doing anything other than copying what the rest of the sheep are doing.

I'm not condoning it or defending it, but I think you need to emotionally prepare yourself for at least a dozen end zone fade throws to Parker Livingstone this season.

Who's to say?  I lose track.  Hard to tell fact from fiction sometimes.

As a total non-sequitur, I was at the Cotton Bowl several hours early.  There wasn't much going on as players were getting into their warm up routines.  I did watch Parker Livingstone do nothing but practice high pointing the ball on end zone fades, probably 20 or 30 in all.   He seemed really good at it.

Whoa whoa whoa.

The wishbone is 100 times better than a fade.
