Right now on this board, one of us reading and posting on here is the dumbest of all of us. Half of us are dumber than the rest of us. I feel pretty confident that I am not the dumbest. I feel pretty good about being above what we've all come to call the "BurntOrange&White Line" in which I'm above the 50% cutoff. The seas really get rockier from there. Some of you have truly dizzying intellects.

I considered myself middle of the road relative to the posters on this board, but if BOW is the midpoint I'm feeling pretty good about myself.

Honestly a little rougher than I would've thought. There might only end up being 1 guy that's more than just a mid- or late-round dart throw for the NFL. Probably the last good chances are for Guilbeau to blow up this year, or Neto to have a very good next two years. I assume that Campbell is what he is at this point.

7 out of 8 out of states transferred out. The one out of state still on the roster is the deep snapper. That's not meant as an indictment on recruiting out of state. What I'd argue is it emphasizes how important going out to these high schools, establishing relationships, and making long term investments in these players and families is. I don't think of any of these cats as character issues, but we needed some bodies. I think the evaluation process is a lot deeper now, and we can swing a bit for the fences in ways we didn't have the cache to do so for the 2022 class.

I forgot Terrance Brooks was John Mateer's teammate in high school. Mostly because I didn't care who John Mateer was at the time.

I think my biggest takeaway is to cement how big of a boon it has been to have the combination of the portal and NIL in terms of transforming the roster. Not just in terms of upgrading the talent, but in terms of creating a natural attrition where players who wouldn't have been able to be productive SEC players at a high level are encouraged to find playing time elsewhere. Those can be uncomfortable conversations. Better to be able to have a realistic evaluation where we're pointing out the guy next to you is simply better than you, than to simply say you're not good enough and we need to recruit someone better to take your place.

They have this NIL thing figured out. Nagy is a secret weapon. He's going to moneyball this whole process. He has a team of top men - TOP MEN - doing independent evaluations that are 4th dimension compared to recruiting services' 2d model.

All he needs to do now is get Venables fired because the man can't coach his incredible talent evaluations into a championship level team. I'm excited to see who that happens to be, and if he can get that guy fired, too, or if he's finally swept out with a broom when it's proven his model is dogshit. While I want both Nagy and Venables there for a long time, if I had to choose one, it's Nagy with a bullet.

He's already going to boarding school at IMG, he's from Orlando, so the distance thing will probably feel pretty normal.

"Seems like he might not want to sit and develop" why? He does love social media, but you have to imagine the IMG machine knows how to read a depth chart.

The frame issue seems real. He might be a one trick pony, but if the trick is good, who cares?

Texas' path to back-to-back No. 1 classes

Steve Sarkisian and staff have a path to back-to-back No. 1 classes after a strong last 20 days of July. There is only one thing that can currently keep Texas from making another run at the top class - if the Longhorns only sign 23 or 24 prospects. If Texas signs 26 or 27 in December, a top 3 class is a lock, and No. 1 will be in play.

So the question is how can Texas ascend to challenge once again for the top spot. We take a look to begin Wednesday.

August 12 could move Texas up two or three spots ...
Four-star EDGE Jake Kreul (Orlando, Fla./IMG Academy) is set to announce his decision August 12. Texas is considered the favorite over Oklahoma and Ole Miss. Should the Sunshine State prospect pick Texas, the class will move up from No. 5 or 6 (depending on ranking system) to 3 or 4. That would set the table for the season.

Island of Oahu flip ...
Texas will very likely need to flip 4-star++ and Michigan offensive tackle commit Malakai Lee (Honolulu/Kamehameha). Texas wants and needs another offensive tackle, and the Horns remain all in on Lee with constant communication.

Flipping a Duck ...
There are two commitments to Oregon that will be key for Texas if they are to challenge for the No. 1 ranked class in December.

Texas will very likely need to flip either wide receiver Jalen Lott (Frisco, Texas/Panther Creek) or defensive back Davon Benjamin (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian).

Finding a third linebacker ...
Linebacker remains a need in the class, first off. The Longhorns need to ink three in the class, especially if freshman Jonathan Cunningham remains at nickel/hybrid.

Two names Texas remain in contact with currently are Tennessee 4-star+ pledge Brayden Rouse (Marietta, Ga./Kell) and Ole Miss 4-star+ commit Izayia Williams (Tavares, Fla./High).

Need a fourth DB ...
This is where OTF believes new names could and will emerge during the season. That could be a 2027 to 2026 reclass, or a couple of prospects in the Southeast Region that Texas liked in the spring but didn't offer.

Pensacola dreaming ...
If OTF 5-star EDGE Trenton Henderson (Pensacola/Catholic) has a change of heart, Texas will say yes.

Sleeper addition ...
A fifth defensive lineman. The only way Texas would sign five if it was a "dude". Obviously in that scenario, it would greatly impact the class ranking.

Filling needs still most important...
My order of needs remaining:
1. Offensive tackle
2. Linebacker
3. Wide receiver
4. Defensive back
5. EDGE

Gerry drops a few interesting tidbits in there that hint at something more.

1) His DT note doesn’t make. A “sleeper” but it would have to be a “dude”? How many hidden gems at DT are there at this stage? Or is he saying one of known guys comes back around?

2) He keeps talking about the guys committed to Oregon. All things were equal and Benjamin took Oregon. All things were not equal and Lott chose Oregon. I don’t know what could flip Benjamin but matching Oregon’s offer for Lott appears to be an option if Texas wants to go that route. To date, they don’t see Lott on that level.

3) This is another mention of the Ole Miss LB commitment. Clearly, there’s something going on in that recruitment for Texas.

So Gerry's update would imply that the positive movement on flip targets is from the pool of Lott, Lee, Williams, or Rouse since Benjamin just committed and Henderson is literally labeled as a dream.

That's how I think about it all, as well.

I read the DT note as meaning the pursuit/addition of a fifth DT is not being talked about, not that the player would be a sleeper.

I had to look it up since I was curious. The airport was previously named McCoy Air Force Base, named after Colonel Michael Norman Wright McCoy. He died in a plane crash during a bombing competition.

Most of them are, but a big chunk make perfect sense - DEN, AUS, PHX, LAX, DFW, etc.

Some of them are just dumb when the code aligns with the airport name and not the city name.  People confuse IAH/HOU because the HOU one is the small, 95% domestic one and IAH is the big international hub. Neither of New York's airports contain NY/NYC in them, same with Chicago.

It's basically like learning another language.

Make sure your pre-scheduled shuttle from the airport knows that there are two airports in Orlando. My dipshit went to Sanford and not MCO, even though I forwarded them a screenshot of my flight information. Then he proceeded to argue with me for ten minutes that he was at the right place. That is when I discovered the 100mph Brightline train.

Took a minute to look back at some of our past rankings in the Sark era.

2021 - #15 - 248.65

2022 - #5 - 289.04

2023 - #3 - 304.09

2024 - #6 - 286.90

2025 - #1 - 312.27

2026 - TBD - 289.05

This class is shaping up pretty similarly to the 2023 class in terms of score/rank, size, and 5 star distribution (QBs: Manning/Bell; LBs: Hill/Atkinson; B last names: Baxter/Bishop).

The 2024 class ranked lower because we only had 22 signees. But to the discussion about the 2022 class, it could have as many contributors this year (between 9 and 14) as ‘22 did any year (14 if you’re being generous). A 50% contribution rate on a title contending team is pretty outstanding.

*2024’s 14 possible contributors this year: Simmons, Wingo, Baker, Black, Gibson, Umeozulu, Washington, Livingstone, January, Mack, Smith, Kibble, Clark, Johnson-Rubell

**2022’s 14 contributors (generously defined): Campbell, Banks, Brooks, Blue, Finkley, Guilbeau, Umeozulu, Murphy, Agbo, Hutson, Burke, Williams, Robertson, Red

With OT being a priority, seems like a contingency option should be considered. Perhaps late risers will be evaluated. Will be interesting to see if alternative names crop up as time moves on if Lee looks to be unlikely.
