Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

With the news that Guervil is going to commit to Florida being confirmed by Bobby this morning, I wonder if this place can handle the caterwauling we’re all about to experience.

It honestly just looks like Florida got super desperate after missing out on all of their other targets and just blew their whole budget on Guervil. In those situations you just kind of shrug and move on. We seem to be everyones boogeyman and teams get crazy at the 11th hour to not lose out to us. Similar to that TE that committed to USC, if some team wants to throw that kind of money at a kid you can't really be too upset about it.

Accepting an offer from a school you have no interest in attending is a common practice. How many readers here applied to a backup university they knew that unless shit went sideways they were never attending.

You have just described why Marcus DuPree committed to Texas. He wanted to be able to tell dozens of other schools to buzz off while he entertained bids from the real suitors- OU, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Pittsburgh (Sherrill was the coach). Texas was the stalking horse.

Texas finally figured it out and started recruiting Anthony Byerly a couple of weeks before signing day.

Seems like other schools are immediately reallocating NIL funds that free up when they lose out on a recruit to increase the offer for another target and Texas remains firm on the initial offer, at least for now.

Gerry mentioned over the weekend that we had the highest NIL offer on the table for James Johnson, so I don't think we are just sitting back and taking it on the chin.

The problem is that the only person who knows that for sure is James Johnson, who has all kinds of reasons to not tell the truth.

Everybody wants a Texas hat on the  table.  I still like our approach though, remain consistent and sober on our salary allocations for the overall health of the roster.  We don't want a mass exodus like other schools have.  Personally I'd rather keep all the dudes we have already right now.

Has Ohio state had a mass exodus? Georgia?

That's valid.  But we've beaten them on plenty of guys too (go down the list of our #1 class just last year).  Can't win them all.

I think there comes a point where we're kind of all full up and nobody's leaving (which is where our roster is IMO).  And some of these guys want to play immediately.  It's not all about NIL.

You're absolutely right - but there's definitely an implication in some of the above posts that the women listed there are somehow equivalent to the some of the women I saw waiting in line for a popular KC "BBQ" joint I had to eat at because a client said I just "had to try it." He's a fucking idiot, their shitty deli meat "brisket" sucks, searing cubes of beef does not a burnt end make, and their women are busted. The pork ribs were OK, I guess. Also, Anna Kendrick and young Susan Sarandon in particular - absolutely would. All day long. Or at least 37 seconds it would take me to finish

Anyway, I got mad about horrendous KC "BBQ" and kind of forgot my point.

Was it Arthur Bryant’s? Because that place is highly overrated.

Yes? OSU and Georgia both took heavy losses to the NFL draft. So far most of Texas’s draft success has come from the development guys or one year rentals that were cheap from an NIL standpoint. Banks and Worthy so far has been the only big dollar NIL player to leave Texas via the draft. There’s a reason basically every preseason prediction has both UGA and OSU behind Texas.

Technically Florida also beat Texas for McCoy. He is their only solid d-line commit though. The other Florida d-line commit is apparently going to flip to Ohio State.

There is a huge gulf between internet fuckable and real life fuckable standards. No one is talking about being seen in public with these women or spending time with them with any consistency.
If I don’t have to give up anything for it, they’re all well within the real life fuckable range.

The game is "Is she hot?," not "Would you do her?" - those are two completely separate questions. I would obviously fuck prime Susan Sarandon. I have done far, far worse. But I just don't see why people consider her to be some sort of beauty. She's got...saggy eyes? Not sure how to describe it. Same thing with Betty Davis and Elizabeth Moss. Who I would also fuck but do not consider to be beauties by any means.

I'm still in trust the corches mode. I hope we don't blow our bank matching Florida for Geurvil. We already have several DTs in the boat. I know there is a premium on DL from high school because it's extremely difficult to pull good ones from the portal, but I think that money could be put to better use. Let's circle back on some of our misses at other positions and see what happens when we up our offer. But whatever the staff decides to do, I've got faith.

I think Texas is going to have another amazing year on the field, so it can only benefit from the carnage within the realm of poor performance and coaching hot seats and firings.

A couple of questions I have:

It has been implied that the signing day is no longer binding (in that it ever was). If recruits ink NIL deals prior, how easily can they get out of it/be flipped assuming they are willing/eager?n presumably these deals will also make it harder for say a Mark Bowman to get out of it, Riley or not?

And can they sign anything before they enroll, of course?

Posted (edited)

I believe that a player from Wisconsin unenrolled from all his classes and headed to Miami because the Wisconsin coaches wouldn't allow him to enter the transfer portal.  I don't think there is anything binding anyone to anywhere right now.  I also think that Riley is lying about the numbers again and hoping the alums cover his insanity when the player gets to campus.  It worked for him with Addison and he didn't deliver on that deal.

It’s called “doe-eyed” and it has been used to describe a feminine trait that men consider hot for centuries

Noted. Elizabeth Moss was borderline fuckable in mad men and she’s fallen off a cliff since then

I don’t even wanna think about what else you’ve dug into. Woof.

The implication was that they haven't had mass exoduses due to lack of NIL funding, which is true. Players leaving early for the NFL has very little to do with NIL, or lack thereof.

The sky isn't falling, but it looks like Sark and TPTB will have to reevaluate some things and adjust accordingly. They've done just that every cycle, and I expect them to do it again.

Some dude on here ran into her in Austin and said in person she was one of the most beautiful women he's ever seen. She is a two-face, for sure.

On here?  Was he a member of the Church of Scientology?

Imagining Pete, Duck, et. al., chasing after her in Mad Men required a wild suspension of disbelief.

Yep, Dupree, Ryan Perrilloux, Brockermeyer lots of examples with various turns and twist. Good amount have gone in our favor late under Sark.

IT is hearing from multiple sources Texas is trying to pick up the pace on Frisco athlete Jalen Lott. This is likely tied, at least in part, to Texas' trailing position for Kaydon Finley.

We don't know how far this will go but it's a development in the right direction. Previously it seemed Texas was resigned to letting him go to USC or Oregon. At last check USC had the most aggressive offer on the table. Relative to this cycle (where costs are lower than last year), it's a big offer.

Lott commits on July 8.

It's because she has a booger sugar problem. It's real, and you can tell. An actress she worked with said after every break she would bust it out and go to town in front of pretty anyone. No one cared since Handmaiden (sp?) Tales was so successful.

It has everything todo with NIL. Do you think that there are separate funds for roster retention and high school recruiting? The money directed towards Hill is going to reduce the funds that can be allocated towards recruiting a HS player. Schools that have a shitty roster are going to have an advantage in being able to fund their recruiting vs having to spend on retention.

Getting into what feels like a straight auction with Oregon and USC is a bold move

I could walk into the Target in Lakeway on a random Tuesday afternoon and find six women hotter than Heather Graham.

Just went to the HEB in Lakeway. 6 women firmly hotter, 5 women that were close, 1 that was firmly hotter from the neck down
I'm not worried about these numbers

They’re not talking about players leaving for NFL in terms of mass exodus.

As far as recruiting goes, I met Kate Winslet when she was in Austin filming Life of David Gale. She was very nice. Spent about 15 minutes showing me around the set.

That’s all I got…

Kevin Spacey was known to be pretty handsy ‘bout this time. Hope you watched your cornhole, bud.

Did you ask her why she couldn’t just scoot her fat ass over and let Jack up as opposed to watching him freeze to death?

Here began my lifelong hatred of Kevin Spacey. I had writing “lab” twice a week from 8-9:30 pm in the communications building while they were filming this. You could park in the lot across Dean Keaton in the evenings except when they decided to block it off for the cast and crew every night for the next day. Empty ass parking lot roped off for 3 months…the only three months I needed to use the damn thing. I’ve crossed paths with Spacey twice in the 20+ years since, and both times I yelled, “Fuck you, Spacey! Should’ve put your head in that fucking plastic bag.” He just looked at me totally confused, but I felt a little better.

"Max exodus" was used in reference to transfers, not early draft entrees. The point is that it's possible to have both an elite roster and elite recruiting assuming you have the funds and the willingness to use them.

Who has a better roster than Texas and currently has a better recruiting class?
