Eh, I thought it was pretty mediocre other than the last shot of Freeze using time travel for golfing (but even then, use it to avoid getting busted for escorts!). I generally like SEC Shorts but choosing 1965 Georgia Football seems a bit odd to include a black fan, especially considering the George football program didn't integrate until 1971. I'm not asking for the cast to dress in white hoods but a little bit of reflection should have indicated a better year or school would be more appropriate.

Georgia just scheduled a 4th OOC team for 2026 which seems to indicate the SEC is staying with 8 conference games. They scheduled Tennessee State. They already have Western Kentucky, @Louisville, and Georgia Tech. I supposed they can always drop Western Kentucky or Louisville if 9 games is agree to but Louisville is their only home OOC game in 2027 so far so I doubt they'd cancel that.

JVC wasn't a brand in any 1965 automobile and there was no such thing as a tape deck.

They should have focused on Alabama instead of Georgia where the fan could have said, "Oh, we're already paying them top dollar. Top. Dollar."

And to make you happy they could have had a "Welcome to Selma!" sign in the background.

...and Ohio State.  The defending national champions.

Why would they omit one of Texas' four OOC opponents, I wonder???

Pretty stupid meme that purposefully leaves off Texas traveling to Ohio State, aggy traveling to Notre Dame, Tennessee playing an ACC team in Syracuse, Mizzou picking back up their rivalry with Kansas. LSU plays Clemson, OU plays Michigan, Vandy travels to Virgina Tech, Arkansas plays Notre Dame, Miss State plays Arizona State.

I'm pulling this ctj post into here because I think it's pretty good, especially about the winds blowing towards a 9 game schedule.

On XM 84 today, they were covering the Big 10 Media Days and they played clips of Petitti's speech. It was insightful, particularly since he doesn't speak publicly much. They seem resolute on eventually getting their way. Someone should post the clip if they can find it.

Separately, on Finebaum today, he was talking with one of his regular reporters who covers CFB. I can't remember which, but they talked relatively extensively about the SEC position regarding the 8 versus 9 game schedules. They confirmed that ESPN has recently told Sankey and the SEC leadership that they'll pay them more money to put the 9th game on the schedule. It sounded as if the money would not be chump change and it would far outweigh the loss of an additional home game every other year for each team. I know we've discussed this previously, and articles have been posted on it, but it was good to hear that this hasn't cooled off from ESPN's end.

They both went on to agree that there is no longer a justifiable position from the SEC end to stay at 8 games after expansion. The momentum is with 9 games. Sankey wants 9 games, and said as much multiple times last week. Then Finebaum gave the ol'innuendo maneuver that "the most powerful programs within the conference want 9 games". He talked about brand damage being done actively right now to the league from all college media angles and the perceptions of other conference fanbases viewing the SEC as cowards. Then they talked about not being in the CFP finals the last two years, with Texas being their only hope last year and converting 4th and 13 to get to the semis. "The noise gets even louder if an SEC team isn't in the finals or winning it this coming January."

For Finebaum to be talking like this to his audience, he's been given guidance that he probably should be doing so. I know Texas is worried about the ever-present notion that they're heavy-handed with their partners, but the perception of being pussies, or weak, in the eyes of everyone else in the space is not something they're jazzed about having associated to their brand. Being considered weak or cowardly is untenable compared to being considered a meanie. Alabama is at least one of the other giants that is in the same boat. I don't think this gets solved for 2026, but I do think the 8 conference game argument is losing both credibility and momentum. The easiest path for that to disappear is for Sankey to come to the agreement with the Big 10 on whichever playoff set-up the Big 10 wants.

I think the SEC can make the 9 game schedule makes sense for the 4 teams that have the most pressure to not lose a home game every other year: Texas, OU, Florida, and Georgia. Most decent teams in the SEC have big OOC home and homes lined up. Pretty easy to ensure you don't lose a home game in the same year you're playing away at Notre Dame or Clemson if they tailor the schedule to give you more home games in that year. You know ESPN can see that putting FCS games on their channels is a no-win situation. Texas vs Auburn in Austin is going to rate better than Texas vs San Jose State. The beauty of owning all the inventory is they would get more marquee games on their channels. If they're going to pay up, they're going to want a say on what games stay on the books and what gets removed.

Anyone concerned about perception can schedule 4 tough non-conference games every year. Problem solved. No school is forced to schedule all the easy games you see above. It is a choice.

the b1g wants 442213 for the 3/6 4/5 play-ins

for whom the bell tolls.....

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6509205/2025/07/22/tony-petitti-big-ten-cfp-expansion/

Tony Petitti stands by Big Ten’s CFP plan, calls 6-3 in league play ‘a great record’

LAS VEGAS — Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti on Tuesday defended his proposed 16-team College Football Playoff format that would allocate twice as many automatic berths to the Big Ten and SEC.

Speaking on the first day of his conference’s media days, Petitti said a field primarily determined by conference standings, rather than the CFP rankings, would make the selection process more objective and allow leagues to create their own CFP play-in games the first weekend in December.

“The Big Ten has been consistent in its strong preference for a Playoff system that allocates spots based on conference standings and the results of playing games,” Petitti said. “We want to better connect the regular season and the postseason.”

The FBS commissioners have been stuck at an impasse for more than a year in determining the size and format of the Playoff when its new contract with ESPN begins ahead of the 2026 season. That contract specifies that any changes to the current 12-team format must be determined by Dec. 1.

The Big Ten first introduced the “4-4-2-2-1” concept — four automatic qualifiers for the Big Ten and SEC, two each for the ACC and Big 12, one for the top-ranked Group of 5 champion — during spring 2024 meetings of CFP leaders. But outside of one interview with Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt, his media days address was the first time Petitti made his pitch publicly.

Initially it appeared the Big Ten and SEC were aligned on the proposed format, but that’s no longer the case. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, speaking at his league’s media days last week, said, “We had a different view coming out of (May’s SEC meetings) around the notion of allocations, if you will. … The Big Ten has a different view, that’s fine.”

The ACC and Big 12 have made clear they support a “5+11” model: the top five conference champs, as is the case currently, plus 11 at-large bids.

“Why would I as a commissioner cap (the Big 12’s) participation?” commissioner Brett Yormark said at his league’s media days. “It makes no sense.”

Petitti reiterated that the Big Ten and SEC “control changes to the CFP format and the selection committee process” going forward “after considering feedback from the membership.”

“We are open to considering any format ideas that come from our (conference) colleagues or the CFP staff,” he said, “but to be clear, formats that increase the discretion and role of the CFP selection committee will have a difficult time getting support from the Big Ten.”

A big part of Petitti’s pitch is the concept of conference play-in games. In the Big Ten’s vision, conference championship weekend would no longer consist solely of No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchups, but also 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5, the winners of which would receive automatic CFP berths. Petitti predicted “fans will gravitate to it.” Had that been in place last year, the No. 6 seed would have been Iowa, which finished 6-3 in the conference and 8-4 overall.

Petitti pushed back when a reporter said, “I don’t sense a clamor for a four-loss team in the Playoff.”

“If you’re 6-3 in the Big Ten, I would argue that’s a great record, and if you stumbled in a nonconference game, I don’t know why that disqualifies you,” Petitti said. “8-4 as a winning percentage, if you project that winning percentage in every other sport, I’m pretty sure you make the postseason. … There are plenty of teams in professional sports who qualify for the playoffs who can’t get past the first-round game. That’s OK, they still get to play. We’ll figure it out on the field, rather than sitting in a room.”

The six Big Ten coaches who spoke Tuesday all supported Petitti’s plan. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said Big Ten schools will be less likely to play tough out-of-conference games without the assurance of automatic berths, given they play nine league games as compared with the SEC’s eight.

“If we’re going to be in a situation where we get four automatic qualifiers, then I think it’d be great to have a 10th game against a Power 4 team,” Day said. “If we’re not going to do that, then I don’t think it makes sense.”

The B1G commish is doing a fine job of advocating for aggy by talking up 8-4 records.

90% of the SEC would be 14.4. We will simplify and make it 14, so 2 schools would be top 10%.

aggy and Mizzou are clearly behind Vandy, Texas and Florida.

So.... no.

People keep forgetting that Mateer went 9 for 19 in a game last year against the vaunted Texas Tech defense. We're talking about a defense so strong they held Baylor to 59 points. Anyone who knows anything about football knows Mateer should just be given the Heisman before the season starts.

I get what you are saying about his passing efficiency in that game, but he did rush 21 times for 197 yards.

If he runs as much as he did last year I doubt he survives the season against SEC defenses.

He also ran for 200 yards at almost ten per clip in that game.  I am guessing Tech sold out to stop the pass and he tore them up with his legs.

He is a big guy and will be used a ton as a runner in their big games.  Maybe he won't hold up.  But he will be much better than the garbage they had last year.  They should win 8 or 9.

That's the thing, "that game". He only averaged 1.4 ypc against the only ranked team he played against on 20 carries, and that was skewed by a 52 yard run.

I think he’ll be a top third of the conference qb at OU.  He can play.  I’m guessing his average of 1.2 was due to sacks.  He’s a pretty decent runner.  And a very good runner near the goal line.  He will be a tough opponent.

The SEC Now crew is pretty rough. Doering and Stinchcomb probably require a nurse to feed them after broadcasts. They make Desmond sound like a brain surgeon. Roman Harper is better, but he can only speak intelligently on 1 subject. Alabama DB’s. Dari is a good host, but he doesn’t really pontificate. He feeds the guys lead ins and they talk over graphics that cost $1.25 to generate.

While I like SEC Storied, and True South has its moments, SECN original programming is dogshit. I wish they’d just rerun SEC games from last year on a 24 hour loop.

Correct. Doering said LSU - Georgia in Atlanta. They gave him shit about not picking OU to win the conference because of his man crush on Mateer. He replied with “oh I have OU in the CFP. A&M too.”

I watched it a bit last night. I hear Doering on XM a lot. His demeanor actually changes when Texas is discussed. The SEC is in his blood as a walk-on fanboy who made it big for the gators from Gainesville and a dyed-in-the-wool SEC family that includes coaches. His career is covering the SEC. Texas having immediate success is an existential threat for who he is. Like, really, this is his life we’re fucking with here, somewhere in his subconscious. I listened to him one day talking about OU basically being a good boy for following their expected rite of passage by “not being ready for big boy SEC football” and now they’re suddenly figuring it out by finding an “SEC ready QB and OC”. What’s funny is what isn’t said - that Texas didn’t have to do that and it irks him to a high degree. It’s no coincidence that he’s talking up OU now. He fucking needs them to be good and for Texas to have a comeuppance.

A lot of these SEC talking heads have similar backgrounds. Stinchcomb, Peter Burns, Alyssa Lang, Kubilic, Hester, etc. Hester, Lang, and Kubilic are great and they’re not big honks strictly for the SEC either. Hester has openly admitted he thought long and hard about going to Texas, which is true for those of us who were following back then. McElroy has admitted many times that he grew up loving Texas and all but says they’re one of his favorite teams. He was giddy about Texas joining the SEC.

Many of these guys are far less biased. A few of them, however, fucking hate everything about Texas and what they’ve done so far. Doering is the lead dog on that front. It’s a DNA level thing for him because of his home grown biases about SEC sports, particularly football, and any challenge to his long held beliefs are a religious issue. He cannot say good things about Texas unless there’s a “but” and usually he just doesn’t say anything level or positive.

I don't know if these ESPN and SEC honks believe their myths so much as they're catering to their audience ala Liucci with aggy. It's proven to be a profitable business model for them. Feed the sheep

The funny thing about CD on sec network is he’ll go on about a team like Kentucky bouncing back and winning games or Missouri will be a lot better and make a run. But then he talks about Texas and somehow we have holes everywhere including qb. Then they all start agreeing with him cause they suck each others dick. Then the Oklahoma host (lol) actually calls them out like yall are making hot takes. Typical sec honks. Hard to watch. They want Texas to lose so bad and it oozes out of the tv.

My favorite was the guy (don't recall which one) during SEC media days who said we wouldn't beat Ohio State because it was going to be Arch's first start as THE guy.
