The first 24 hours of the trade I subscribed to this theory.  Thought it was the one that made the most sense.  But everything, and I mean EVERYTHING that has come out since then shows it was Nico acting out his hubris and ignorance.

It doesn’t really have to be one or the other.

I read somewhere that in order to acquire star players you have to have valuable assets and draft capital.

In most cases.

Like a bunch of future picks one might obtain in exchange for trading one of the top 5 players in the world in the very early part of his prime? Yeah, that would have been nice.

What getting a 33 year old injured player, a young kid who MIGHT be something later on, and 1 first round pick isn't a good return?!?

Nico would like to have a word with you.

Hard not to say this isn’t rigged. I honestly don’t know what else to say.

this one feels rigged. Counter point: in the previous 16 times the Mavs have been in the lottery they have stayed in the same position or moved down 16 times. Even in the Luka draft they had the 3rd best odds for number 1 and dropped to 5. Had to trade the following years one and Trae Young to get Luka.

They also didn’t tank properly that season. If they had, they wouldn’t have had to trade another pick to get Luka.

I can’t even feel good about this because I honestly don’t know if Nico is actually going to do the smart thing and keep the pick.

I personally think they need to draft Flagg and trade Kyrie and AD for quality picks to put around him for the next 5-7 years.

It's been rigged since Ewing went to the Knicks.  of course Spurs fan would never admit as much...

Cuban was never going to get the #1 pick from Silver or Stern.

They did.  They were fined multiple times for tanking that season.   Not much more you can do

I'm not much of a conspiracy guy, but this feels like a conspiracy.

so the Spurs getting Robinson, Duncan and Wemby didn't convince you?

which is exactly why silver/stern weren't going to let Cuban have the #1 pick.

If the Mavs ever wanted to hit the reset button, fire Dumont and Nico now.

I'm not saying he will be, but if Flagg is a defensive liability at all, it is going to be funny.
