I don't think the immunity rulings made presidents kings by itself.  But that in conjunction with upcoming cases that could consolidate and wrestle control away from the legislative and judicial branches certainly will.  The court could still stop him.  Don't have much confidence they will, but they still can.

Ok I understand sex and gender being different… I’ll level with you. But your birth certificate asks for sex. So does your license. Can’t have it both ways

The idea of that we are on Steve Bannon's side with regard to anything is, quite frankly, terrifying but here we are.

https://www.mediaite.com/tv/steve-bannon-warns-republicans-the-oligarchs-will-abandon-them-theyre-with-us-but-only-temporarily/

i realized yesterday that within 24 hours i had wholeheartedly agreed with both Steve Bannon and Mike Pence. so then i got high bc wtf.

I think there are a lot of people who, if they're being honest, would prefer a "benevolent dictatorship" to any other form of government.  Of course, they presuppose that they would be in the protected  class, which of course most of MAGA would not.

No, it did. I'm not saying they gave him absolute power to rule by decree, but they absolutely made him a de facto king. There's plenty of kings throughout history that had to share power with legislatures. The key thing that made someone a king wasn't absolute legal power, it was legal unaccountability. That's what they gave Trump.

Bc I’m not going to get into a shit slinging match about something that the president has little to do with.

The fact that yall have spent 4 pages and the whole morning arguing about transgender policy is why people have no idea the real bad shit is going on.

This isnt the real issue, it certainly has an impact on a small percentage of the population, but it is mainly to display cruelty, create division and distract the conversation.

People who think like that are modern "conservatives," who have a single foundational belief:

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

That's it.  That's the whole thing.  That's why they want a dictator: because they believe they're members of the "in-group," so they will be both protected and not restricted, but those OTHER people (you know who they are) will get what's coming to them, good and hard.  And, those other people can't do a damned thing about it, because the law only protects REAL Americans, like us in the in-group, right fellas?

People want everything to work and be taken care of by somebody else. Having to constantly be doing elections and having debates on what is the best way to get things to work is exhausting and unpleasant.

But there does not really exist a benevolent dictatorship. No easy way to a fair and just society.

My favorite activity if I hear something complain about transgender athletes is to ask them to name 3 women athletes. I've done this 5 or 6 times to family or acquaintances and they've never been able to, and it kinda shuts them up.

I would expect many of them could answer in the following way:

  • Caitlin Clark, or whatever her name is
  • The black girl from LSU who I hated
  • Mary Lou Retton

Almost like it's an intentional cultural war distraction? Gee, no way.

Harshly punish a small, vulnerable population to keep the masses dancing.

It's the idea that you have a CEO who is looking out for the best things for a company or in this case a country. Which is 100% what America rebelled against, not that George III was an absolute monarchy. Most of our beef was with Parliament.

That's a pretty generous interpretation lol, there's not alot of arguing about policy going on - it's trying to get TB91 to accept the reality of what's happening right now and the consequences of his vote.

Trans policy, as always, is the only thing this kinda person is capable of bringing up. He's not even replying to other prompts or questions.

You know, I’m glad to see some people coming around on this and honestly Mark Levin is someone I have a visceral negative reaction to.  And I really think that if we’re gonna beat this it is going to take some odd bedfellows like how in Czechoslovakia the hippie freaks and playwrights and Catholic priests finally said “enough” to the Soviet-installed communist regime. There is true power in that.

But to be welcome into the role, you gotta connect the final dots. If you are capable of saying “this is an unamerican and revolting foreign policy” then it needs to be followed with “and I can no longer support a fundamentally unamerican leader and neither should you, even if you agree with him on many other things.”  Otherwise you’re just salving your conscience.

Also, I’m kind of tired of hearing about the integrity of women’s sports from a crowd that hated title IX and attacked the WNBA just for existing.

I mean that’s untrue, but that was a talking point. The reality is that people will vote what they feel is in their best interests. Will do the same shit in 4years. When Biden won last election Republicans bitched about everything. Human nature. The losing side doesn’t like to lose.

I sent emails to my elected representatives this morning. I know it was a waste of time, but I felt better doing it. Then I came here.

The Macro issues were concerning. The Micro side of that, the individual people, gets very personal, very quickly.

My shame is insignificant, and my concerns are not worthy, relative to the fears some have for just wanting to live their lives, peacefully. I'm not talking about Ukraine any more, but my Surly brothers and sisters.

1 hour ago, David Dennison said:

It doesn't. Why do you think it does?

Yes, let's break this down.  The only "different" medical care transgender people ask for is treatment for their gender dysphoria, which may include hormones and eventual surgery.

If they receive that treatment, it's because doctors find it medically necessary, or at least justifiable.  If insurance covers it, it's for the same reason.

It's covered for federal prisoners just like their other medical necessities.  But, like other medical necessities for federal prisoners, it is subject to pretty extreme scrutiny by BOP, because they're in the business of denying healthcare whenever they can, 8th Amendment notwithstanding.  They routinely discharge cancer patients rather than foot the bill for their treatment, as their continued incarceration would require.

We wouldn't begin to question other people's medical diagnoses and treatments across the board unless they were "icky trans."  Nor would we accuse the medical community of some vast conspiracy unless it was some lunatic right wing patrioteaglefreedomgun issue.
