Phantogram sure seems low on the lineup there

Phantogram, Modest Mouse, Passion Pit all seem low. That’s a decent lineup for me but not sure it’s worth a whole weekend festival. I’m sure I can see most of those at better venues.

ACL honestly seems like it is kinda dead now. The last year I went it certainly was more about the festival and not the music which sucks.

Yeah nah. Had a very decent time last year, and this lineup is so void of even 2nd-tier acts I'd like to see that I'm at a loss for a way for them to convince me to go. The only combo I think I can see my springing a day pass for is if Pierce the Veil and Doechii are on the same day.

19-28 year old white girls are running this world. We just live in it.

I see gold all over the place.  My taste in music is really eclectic so I can dig all kinds of bands in that lineup.  Immediate ones are The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Cage the Elephant, Wet Leg, Empire of the Sun.  The Dare cracks me up... definitely will catch that set.  John Summit should be a great electronic headliner.  Been wanting to see Orion's Belte since I dig the Khruangbin/Glass Beams vibe (see below).  Polo & Pan should be good.  Bunch of other good options.  I'll leave W1 with a bunch of new bands I like.

you are not going to make me buy a 3 day pass, you just aren't going to do it...ain't happening. Green Day or bust!

This.  There are not many bands I currently recognize and like, but I am confident I will discover more between now and October, and easily fill out my dance card.

And, spend the weekend among tons of talent.

Of course my kid is making me go to see Sabrina Fucking Carpenter.  Fuck me.

Juno position to salvage.

pretty meh for me. if i go, it will be for finding something new to listen to outside of isakov and maybe checking out what doja cat is wearing on her ass.

The Strokes, Isakov, Rilo Kiley, Dr Dog, and MJ Lenderman would all have to be playing the same day for me to consider going this year.

Hozier as the #2 headliner? I’ve only heard one song from him and that was like a dozen years ago.

I guess I'm waiting for Ray Benson to die so I can say I saw his last performance at ACL and don't have to go anymore.

I'll say it . . . I'm not a fan of Western Swing.  Especially when randos in the crowd do the Bob Wills "aw-ha" shout.  Oof.  I'd rather watch the Grateful Dead.

Of that list, I'm down with:

  • The Strokes
  • Rilo Kiley
  • Rainbow Kitten Surprise
  • Modest Mouse
  • Wet Leg
  • The Backseat Lovers (saw part of their set at High Water weekend before last -- they had a huge crowd but a really lame band name)
  • Dr Dog
  • Japanese Breakfast
  • Carseat Headrest
  • MJ Lenderman
  • Gregory Alan Isakov
  • Phantogram
  • Passion Pit
  • Yoke Lore
  • Teenjus (lol)

If you want Wet Leg, South Austin's mom is cheaper, but the crowd is bigger.

Weekend 1 3-day already sold out

yeah I’m old

All the college kids at the office bought the same 3-days so they could go together. I had to break the news to them that only half of them could go, and the rest had to be at work. That went over well.

Well the festival folks knew what they were doing with the lineup I suppose.  Texas being away at Florida probably helped too.

Next week will be the daily lineup but the actual daily schedule doesn't get released until much later

Thanks.  I just need to know which day ticket(s) to buy.

I've seen them both, but it looks  like I'll get to see Modest Mouse and The Heavy Heavy on weekend one, so that's cool.  I'd rather miss seeing the Florida game than the OU game.  (Yeah, I know they have a screen.  It's always a zoo.)

Last year OU game and W2 sucked with the later kickoff.  Game ran into some prime late afternoon/early evening acts.

That's the worst fucking headliner slate I've ever seen.

Granted I don't really pay attention to ACL anymore so maybe this is par for the course now. But I'm not sure I've ever seen them not have even one big rapper/hip-hop artist.

Doja Cat doesn't count?  Doechii and T-Pain, too.

I’m thinking of going to Dallas on Friday for Texas vs OU and driving down after the game on Saturday to go to Sunday Week 2. Anyone done that before?

No none of those are very legitimate hip-hop acts. Doja Cat has a niche fanbase, I don't know who Doechii is, and T-Pain isn't really a rapper (although I love T-Pain and he's been putting on great shows apparently).

Oh God Doechii is the artist with that awful fucking "Anxiety" song? Yeah that's a hard pass.

There's no Eminem or Jay-Z or Kendrick or Outkast or RHCP or Pearl Jam or Foo Fighters etc... There's not a big EDM name, either.

It's just not what it used to be I guess.

Getting a Saturday ticket today is a non-starter.  Do they release more down the line?

I'm just thrilled that The Strokes are opposite Sabrina Carpenter so that big ass crowd will be over at the Amex stage.

The old-man energy on this thread is really entertaining.

Right?

I love the lineup and have already found some new bands but these guys who complain non-stop...

Picture yourself at 21 or 24 or 25

Some 50-year old whines about the lineup at ACL

Yeah, dude... that's you!  Cut it out.

I mean, look.  It was Mothers' Day.  I had gotten Mrs.LL flowers but nothing else.  And her teenaged children typically had their heads up their asses.  So they had done an inadequate job of prepping for Mothers' Day.  And Mrs.LL expressed her excitement over this slate (particularly Doechii and Doja Cat) during brunch.

Add to that the fact that I've never been to ACL, but I think I'd hate it.  Hot.  Crowded.  And crowded with sweaty people.  With outdoor toilets--not my jam.

But even so, we're not going to live in Austin that much longer.  And I kinda feel like I've got to go to ACL once.  Just to do an Austin thing.

Is that a long way to say that I now have Platinum tickets for ACL Fest?  Yes.  Yes, it is.

I think I do an acceptable job staying on top of new music for an old.  I don't have to like everything.

Definitely not referring to you.  I know you're relatively on top of things.  Having a musical family clearly helps, too.

I'm talking about the people that see the new lineup and complain because "uhhh I recognize three bands".

There is a shed at the east end of the park, next to the main stage, that has about 40 urinals in it.  Guys catch a break at ACL.  Women, it's port-a-potties.

Yeah, all things considered the public bathrooms at ACL are surprisingly not bad at all
