That defense is one of the most unsung defenses Texas ever fielded. The DL was astounding. It's amazing how terrible the offense was.

It was a great defense, terrible offense, horrific kicking.

We lost 3 games that year just because of missed FG's. 10-22 on the year, with 3 missed XP's.

Honorary “Burnt Ends” player?  They may set his pre-snap position really close to a Tackle L/R, so damned near a Tight End position.  It’s all Sark’s Madness going forward!  I look forward to sitting back and watching.

I remember how great Priest Holmes was in his NFL career, but rarely remember his time on The 40.  I just remember saying back then that we had “that” in our backfield and didn’t really use  his to his ability.

I actually liked Corvallis more than Eugene when my brother was looking at Pac schools, but for a football trip UO would definitely be a bigger deal. It's just not as cool as the lakefront stadium in Seattle.

Yeah, my daughter is going to Oregon State next year (we live in the Portland Metro)- Corvallis is way cooler as a town to me than Eugene- but obviously the experience at Autzen is going to far surpass Reser, especially these days. Autzen is small, but gets fuckin loud. The whole stadium going nuts during "Shout" is cool and feels more authentic than some mass sing alongs since they've been doing it for a while since they filmed Animal House there. Duck riding out on his motorcycle, etc... They developed a unique shtick

It’s alright to be little bitty, unless you’re a turbohyped jagger who turns around and goes 4 for 47 across 16 games for a season. We’ve got a Matt Davis clone on our hands, folks. Your basic Jeremy Jones. Courtnee Garcia is going to question his production.

Parker looks like every bit where a famous QB dons a disguise and pretends to be a walk-on or whatever.

I met him outside Buffalo Club one night.  This hits close to home.

He’s putting up 750 yards and 10 TDs on the season.

Dread him, run from him, but jaggy mcjaggerson is coming for you.

No but I’ve attend an OU sucks at Nebraska in the early ‘90s, stationed at Fort Sill and just a CFB fan.

I then flew with the McNeese team to play NU in 2002.  What a great experience and definitely worth the money spent.

The Lincoln locals were so hospitable every where we went.  McNeese was in the RZ in the waning minutes with the game on the line, and the sea of Red really became alive!

This after having a series of amazing kickers. I just kind of took it for granted we'd have an NFL quality field goal kicker year after year. We've had quite a few since then, last year notwithstanding.

Still managed to keep the scoring streak alive, even with that shitty offense. It took Greg Davis hamstringing an offense with Vince Young and Cedric Benson 13 years later for that to end. Not that I'm still embittered by that. Nope. Not me.

Indeed. Less than 1300 yds playing across 4 years. By his last year, he was behind both Ricky and Shon Mitchell. I don't think anyone believed he would go on to achieve those monster NFL seasons 5 years after his time at Texas, including the Chiefs.

I think we got shutout again at least once under Charlie.  I was blacked out and/or just went and did something else for many games during those year.

I don't hate it and can't remember a time when Texas could make a legit claim with the LB room.

Ant requires no discussion

Lefau is on an awesome trajectory and was a beast at times last season.

I'm really excited about Spence. A seasoned SEC LB that won't miss a beat. Hell of a portal grab. I see him as an ugraded Gbenda guy.

Ty Smith is going to be a star.

I'm still waiting to see on Moore as an "LB". I realize in modern football position names basically mean squat. Men much more astute than I will fit his skill set to the constructs of the Texas D.

Bo Barnes could not have walked into a better situation. Tons of veterans from which he can learn, and be used sparingly with hopefully little pressure.

Giddy up.

Tell me he could be the next Justin McLemore and I’ll be downright giddy.

I was going to say Bryan White but he made two massive plays at Nebraska in 1998 so I’m not talking shit on him. Without those two catches and Ricky running down a DB from behind after a pick, we don’t win that game…

I played against White in HS several times. He really was a very fast, tiny little guy.

He had a class with one of my girlfriends in college and tried the “I’m a football player” move on both her and friend of hers at one point or another that semester. Shoot your shot, but maybe find girls that aren’t taller than you in order to see the move land.

Regardless, he did too much on the field to merit me lumping him into that list.

Mid-Late 80s and early 90s were such a great time to watch a Longhorn football game.

Aside from the lack of winning, of course.

1998 and Ricky Williams ended it.

Though the Charlie Strong era brought it back temporarily. In 2015 I sat on the 50 yard line, 20 rows up for basically nothing against Kansas State.

I have no issue going to watch Texas suck, it's still Texas football.

Masterclass in humblebrag in this post

Surprised the epilogue wasnt about how, years later, he approached your company to sell something and used the UT alum move. How you’d grant him an audience but his offer wasn’t as good as Jim Bob Moffatt’s.

My Byron White story is not as impressive. He caught a pass earlier in the season. We had no idea who he was and joked his jersey number (1) represented the amount of receptions he’d get for the year. We didnt’t know his mom was sitting a few rows behind us.

I was in HS during the late ‘80s.  Always begged Dad for new Texas gear, which he’d get from Rooster’s.  I’d see a dug out jacket that Gus wore and I wanted that!  Christmas came and I got my Gus jacket, but the FB team was mediocre at best record wise.  I loved watching Britt Hager play his LB position, but he was only one guy on the defense.

HS sucked in SETX as I was surrounded by aggy, let alone family functions/holidays, with extended aggy family members.  Texas never beat aggy when I was in HS, part of the Jackie Sherrill streak.  It wasn’t until I was in West Germany that I listened to the Horns beat aggy ‘89 on AFN radio to end the streak.

Who is 87 for NC in that picture?  If I remember right, that player went on to a lengthy NFL career.  Just can’t think of his name.

One thing I remember about that game is White caught a pass completely in the clear, nobody within 10 yards of him.  I jump for joy and do celebratory laps around my girlfriend's tiny apartment for what seemed like 15 seconds, come back into view of the TV assuming he scored but he's still running and gets dragged down.  He may have been fast in high school but I swear it looked like a 5.4 40 that day.

Is Byron White some analog in your earlier era as a student or something? I’ve never heard of the guy.

I have like 500+ posts on this site that qualify as humblebrags or outright brags, and that post wasn’t one of them. What is the brag?
