To those saying Nico's career in the NBA is over, I think the Lakers might hire him as a consultant after he gets fired by the Mavs. Gotta keep someone like that close.

Addelson can just send him over there now for free. Hell, give them Jason Kidd too as an assistant coach. Offer to pay 18,000 Lakers fans to AAC for every Lakers game in Dallas, since that's what this is about anyway. Everything about this is gross.

I don't understand why people try and rate trades alongside all-time trades immediately.

I mean the Gobert trade was a few years ago and it keeps looking either worse or better.

Even if Luka drops off to an average overweight role player, the fact remains that at the time of the trade, he could easily demand multiple first round picks over several years, the way OKC does it, and they got nothing, an aging big whose always hurt, and one pick 4 years from now. That will always be the worst trade ever. I see no other explaination than Addelson is pulling an Oakland A's situation, tank the franchise, then use the lack of interest from the fans you betrayed as a reason to move. Nobody, literlaly nobody, whose interest is in improving your own franchise makes this trade without at least shopping it around and getting several high picks, at an absolute minimum.

Luka could balloon to 300+ lbs over the next months and it still wouldn’t explain the lack of return for this trade.

Oh okay sorry, Nostradamus.

Luka doesn't even have to re-sign with the Lakers.

Also NBA history is filled with horrendous trades. There are some high bars to clear out there.

But, please continue. I'm thoroughly enjoying the meltdown.

Thank you for conceding and the compliment. Now we can move on.

This is reference to the Harden trade when OKC got a "ransom" from the Rockets according to some poster on this site. If you replace Dallas with OKC and Houston with LA, you have the exact post.

Aka that thread got slorch'd

The funniest part of this for me is Klay Thompson because I totally forgot he was even on the team. Like what is Klay thinking right now? The joke with Duncan for years was that some game he'd just walk out at halftime without telling anyone and never play again. I could see Klay doing that.

Rumor out here was he didn’t want to play with Lebron.  That left Dallas  as his best option

Meh just like the cowboys franchise I no longer give a fuck. Living thru Cowboys dominance until the 80s and enjoying the Mavs since their inception until this latest clusterfuck I just don’t give a fuck. Hence my username. Thank goodness my horns have filled the void

I think after this dies down I'm going to make a collection of the funniest meltdown takes from this thread.

This is definitely going on the list.

The best one is still "even if Dallas wins the championship this season some of us won't celebrate"

Obviously, being a Warriors' homer, I had this thought was well. Dude hitched his wagon to Luka as his best/last/only chance to ever win another ring. He's a below replacement level player at this point on a play-in caliber team. Ouch.

It’s not the worst trade in NBA history.

It’s the worst trade in organized sports history.

It’s the worst trade I can remember in any sport. I’m sure someone can come up with something. But this is worst I’m aware of. Absolutely awful.

You're free to interpret that in a way that gets your rocks off, but I stand by it. The Lebron sweepstakes to Miami hurt the NBA. Not blaming him, not even saying he was wrong to leave Cleveland. But it changed everything and IMO basketball fans are the ones that took it on the chin. Fans are loyal and they like loyalty.

This Luka situation is different though. The organization abandoned their fanbase. Per reports so far, this deal was apparently done in secret and blindsided everyone involved except for the 2 GMs. It's incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional to everyone else involved, including the fans. This shit will linger.

Can you name one that was a straight up swap for a player of Luka’s caliber for one of AD’s?

Klay will have to work harder for his shots, but he'll get more of them now.

I rarely watch games anymore so I'm out of the loop on this, but what happened to KT? Was is just the aftermath of that achilles injury?

The greatest thing is AD won’t wanna super max when his giant current contract runs out. They won’t have to pay an injury prone 35 year old $400 million. Oh wait…

No it didn't. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Granted - I don't give a fuck. Spurs just got Fox.

Fuck the Mavs - fuck the LakeShow. Suck my dick the Spurs are back and we're coming baby.

I understand the sentiment, but this tweet is stupid dumb. Everyone in Dallas would be saying, "Luka who?" if they're up 3-1 in this year's Finals.

...it's just not going to happen.

Everyone knows AD doesn’t improve this team’s chances of winning anything.  This is all a bunch of bullshit and a huge fuck you to the fan base. This cunt and her spawn don’t give a shit about the city of Dallas or the team or its fan base.

fuck Cuban for selling to her.

This is dumb. I want the Mavs to win and I don’t give a shit with who. I’m only upset because I seen path to winning now. I’ll suck Nico’s dick if he proves me wrong.

I could see this(trading Luka, not getting fleeced) if you have a magician head coach who can implement some kind of lock down defensive plan but we have...Jason Kidd.

also, the funniest part about all of this is we probably have to wait 2 weeks to even see these guys play because they are both hurt, as usual.

As much as I hate the Mavs and their arrogant, dumb shit owner I don't want to see the Lakers get better ever. Mavs y'all are gonna have to settle for a one and done if y'all can even manage to get through the play in. Anthony Davis will be on the bench watching the Mavs lose. Remember how us Spurs fans felt watching an extremely talented piece in his prime be traded away for next to nothing? Now y'all know.

What a dumb fucking post. If AD is healthy and we dominate and win a ring, I don’t care about Luka. Nico’s job is not to cater to the whims of dumbass fans like this. Of course none of that shit will happen because this trade was the worst. So thanks, Mike Ziemer, for making me stick up for the executor of the worst trade ever.

We won't know until we get there but I suspect for me it would be hollow. I can't think I'm unique in that way. It would be a good problem to have.

this.

I'm laughing so hard at Nico.  so setting us up for the short term AND the long term?

so lemme get this straight.  short term we were just one AD from 8th place to winning it all and long term we are planning for a great future by adding Max Christie and a 1st rounder 4 years from now, from the team that will have Luka in his prime.

I guess Kidd will be the fall guy this year...

Zero point zero. But the hypothetical says we do.  In which case I don’t care if it’s without Luka.

You aren't winning a title.

The Spurs have a better chance at it now tbh.
