Is Bernie a socialist? Did you vote for him?

I suppose he is and I didn’t vote for him on the general or for that reason because he wasn’t on the ballot. I supported him in the primary to defeat Hillary because I believed, and still do, that he would keep the Midwest from falling to allow trump to secure the  presidency.

So while were at it, did you vote for trump? If so why? Do you still support that decision?

So it looks like that facebook post has been taken down after people started pointing out that it contradicted Ford's account in several areas.  Most notably that Ford claims the incident happened during the Summer and that facebook post recalled that it was the "talk of the school" for weeks after it happened.

I mean since we're all speculating wildly in here, it's not unreasonable for something to happen in the summer and have people talking about it for weeks into the school year.

Maddow’s opinions can get out of hand and her tears are over the top but when she goes on her tirades like that she’s actually one of the best. I don’t like the various punditry shows on any of the networks but the connect the dots stuff is awesome.

Republicans don't know how individual liberty works.  They just know it applies to their gun ownership and not to gay marriage, because that's what Fox News tells them.

Etc.

You really have an issue with this FOX thing, you should stop watching it.

She needs to testify on Monday.  That's the way investigations are done.  You talk to the victim.   Then you talk to the perpetrator.  Then you talk to any necessary 3rd party folks if you feel the need.  It would be nice if it could be done over time and in private but this is already public now and the process needs to go on.

I feel bad for her. I'd ask for more time if she needed more time.  But if they don't give her more time she needs to get on stage and tell her story.

She’d probably be willing to do so if they gave any indication that they were interested in conducting a thorough good-faith investigation. It’s pretty clear though that they aren’t remotely interested in that.

That's not really a contradiction.  Summer is right before school starts.   It could have been the talk of the school during the first few weeks of the school year.

I mean, tons of kids are headed back to school right now.  I'll bet they went to parties within the last couple weeks.  Maybe they're even talking about them.

Yeah, they want to put her on trial and they demand she lay out her case 72 hours in advance so they have time to rip it apart.  They also want no witnesses to testify to make it a strictly he said / she said.

This is a perversion of Justice put on full display in order to push a bought and paid for judicial activist to the highest court in the land.

We had a strict yet unwritten code:  what happens over the summer stays in the summer.  No talking about parties, drinking, sex, vacations, ball games, drinking, parties, sex, parties, parties with drinking, parties with sex, parties without sex but where we wished we had sex so we drank . . . nope.  We were literally a bunch of zombies.  Never said a word.  Teachers all thought we were at the library 24/7.  Easy peasy, everyone just followed the code.

If Dr. Ford is not going to be able/choose to testify, she should just release her polygraph results. Would not matter in a court of law, but let the GOP senators explain at town halls the nuance of the Daubert line of cases, scientific certainty, etc.

She doesn’t need to testify.  She can go on 60 Minutes with all the witnesses she wants.

That would have the same, if not more, influence as her testifying before Congress.

This isn’t a legal matter and those Senators have their minds made up regardless of what she says in their forum.  The only thing that can have any impact is public outrage/sympathy for Dr. Ford.

This is political warfare and Dr. Ford’s most powerful weapons are her testimony and the MSM platforms.  Kavanaugh already has the right wing media sphere fighting for him.

At this point, if she doesn't testify and he is confirmed, that is a huge win for Republicans.

For the moment.

They will pay dearly in November. I think if he gets confirmed and her story blows up on them later, they lose both houses.

The bottom line is the American people need to hear from Dr. Ford directly in person by Monday.  The venue is not as important.  The Republicans are doing everything possible to control her narrative while paying lip service to “due process”.  What they fail to understand is she is in control, not them.

If I was her attorney I would propose that she have a public hearing/ discussion with a select group of female senators-  Collins (R), Murkowski (R),  Fenistein (D), and Harris(D).   The first 2 are all that matter anyway at this point.

And the Republican female senators would tell her to fuck off in the nicest way possible.

And the vast majority of the electorate thumbs their nuts.

Thank you amateur operatives of the right who have returned to do your tag team obfuscation and falsehood promotion. I know it's been hard sledding for you with Trump, but here's an old-fashioned shit show where you can swiftboat anyone who speaks up against the sacred party.

At least it's clear who you are now. I will now employ the impotent gesture of negging any repeated lie that has been debunked on this thread. I know you tremble. Fuck you, anyway.

I agree she is the one in control, but I have yet to see any indications that she is going to sit down with any media outlet before Monday.

I still think she's going to call their bluff and testify.

True but they will look like dicks.  They said they want to hear from her.  She would be offering to talk to them.  When a rape victim shows up in the police station or ER they often want to speak with a female cop or be examined by a female doc.  It is understandable and I think most woman would sympathize.

Question for legal professionals:  what requests are typical to grant in order to accommodate those who indicate that they are willing to testify in legal proceedings?  Are you aware of any instances where the potential witness requested that some additional investigation take place before they testify?  Depending on who you listen to Dr. Ford's request is either completely reasonable or crazy.  I'd be interested to hear any experts take on typical expectations and requests of those called to testify.

She’s likely not going to give any indication of anything for the next 23 hours.  I think she’s going to call their bluff too and do a little media blitz prior for good measure/back up.

These aren't legal proceedings. These are political proceedings. The committee can do whatever it wants with respect to witness requests. Moreover, if they really wanted to hear from her, they could issue a subpoena.

I think it’s probable she testifies under protest.

Keeping your cross-examiners in the dark is next level smart.

I just passed over this at first, but now I see how astute it is. I'd imagined her as hunkered down like a trembling rabbit, but the steps she and her advisers are taking seem careful and strategic.

She doesn't want to see this POS on the Supreme Court. It's too much.

Introduce the accusation to a senator as a last resort allegation.

When it goes public: take a lie detector and ask for the FBI to investigate.

When the GOPs refuse the FBI and lie about it: refuse to play the game they set up (DD's post)

Keep yourself hidden revealing nothing until it counts and you can control it. Let the attackers guess about who you are and what you have.

If the FBI remains uninvolved, I agree with the posters that an appearance on 60 minutes the night before her testimony is the best way to get her story out in a fair way. The GOP attack dogs have only a single night (sound familiar?) to process the data and plot their strategy to discredit her.

She many not be a rabbit at all. She may be the fox.

From the little bit I have read about Dr. Ford, she doesn't strike me as someone who would back down from a fight.  I get it, we're talking about sexual assault, and that can cause emotional damage that lingers one's entire life, but I get the feeling she's going to bow up and push back.  Selfishly, I hope she does.
