Wait. They’re going to buy out another coach? And overpay yet another coach?!

I feel like I’ve seen this movie in college station before.

Some fools never learn.

Yeah, Sully to Aggy would only be a thing if he has a bunch of hidden financial problems and he can go rape Aggy’s $$ before he retires.

And certainly, all decent coaches are itching to go to a place that fires you after one year.   It’s every coach’s dream.

It might be, for a coach looking for a retirement payout and also that can command a huge, fully guaranteed contract.

Florida is a scary team right now. They are a 3 seed, maybe a 2 seed on recent success, they are playing like a national top 8 seed. Whoever they match up with in a regional and super is fucking hosed.

I guess you didnt see this..

LOL right.

Don't put it past the committee to seed them #16, but if they're hosting, they'd likely get an SECSECSEC auto-bump to #15

That is what is impressive about them. They have lost more players than anybody in the SEC and they just keep winning

Anyone who has seen the huge drop off in donations to their athletic department might conclude that they’re bordering on bankruptcy. They’re cash poor because of their financial recklessness.

I think they’re going to keep buying tier two and three like they did with Elko and whatever Schlub they hired as basketball coach. Maybe they’ll do like high schools and have people coach multiple sports. They may not be able to afford anything else.

Can the women’s tennis coach other sports? Seems to be the only winner on campus besides that fat dyke softball coach

They should give it a try. Seriously, their athletic history is nearly 150 years of squandered resources. Pitiful.

They need to win the next 2 and 2 games in the SECT. So doubtful.

Nah, they need to win 5 in the SECT.

They need to win the tournament. I hope they lose to Missouri but that would have to be the title game based on last weeks standings.

Aggy vs Mizzou for the title and a Mizzou winning the auto bid would be fucking HILARIOUS. Holy shit

They can't move up to 13th, either.  (Or drop to 15th.)  Whew!  Destiny secured!

I'm not suggesting that the other SEC teams should collude to make this happen, but the other SEC teams should collude to make this happen.

Has Graham published any new fanfic about how Earley has his team poised for a magical run through the SECT and NCAAT?

Shhh... no one point out to them that they would at home on their ass after tomorrow if the SEC hadn't expanded the tournament to be a participation trophy for every team in the conference.

They expanded it to give some borderline tourney teams a chance to get a win or two without having to play the top of the conference teams.

Whatever the reason, I like this format. Strong reward for the top 4 teams, top teams avoid a lengthy, arm-wasting weekend and nobody takes multiple losses.

It's a good set-up.

I think you give Kendall Rogers too much credit. That aggie honk is crossing his fingers with the notion that 4 wins gets ATM into the tournament.

If you are only going to win 12 SEC regular season games (which assumes A&M wins the last 2), you better have something else to hang your hat on (tough non-con schedule, Q1 wins, RPI, etc.). A&M checks none of those boxes.

-#162 non-con SOS

-6-14 in Q1 games

-#61 RPI (you need to be in the 40's at minimum to typically be in the conversation as an at-large)

They are done outside of winning the conference tournament.

What say we rest who needs resting during the conference tournament, but win the fucking thing anyway.

This isn't football. Playing 1 to 3 games in a weekend shouldn't be hard for any of these guys.

Just adds to the possibility of unexpected injuries - and even at this age arms get tired over the course of a season. A good rest would help.

I thought it was great. My favorite format by far. You limited the number of games you would play and even the tourney winner only played one additional game.

Those big double elimination tournaments were a nightmare.

Oh FFS. Guys in their mid 30s play 162 games a year. 20 year olds can play a few games.

This whole "playing sports is SCARY" shit is tiresome. I get it in football but come on. College players are not this fragile.

I think the superior format is the single elimination bracket, imo.  With the byes and double byes for doing well

Teams who finish in the top 4 should only have to win 3 games because they earned it

I just want to point out that in 2002 we lost early in a double elimination bracket, meaning we had to come out of the loser's bracket with all of those additional games. Then the championship game went to extra innings.

Yet this ridiculous pitching staff endurance challenge posed little problem in our run to the national title.

Yeah I don't have any problem with the current format. I just liked the pool format best out of all the tournament formats the Big 12 had.

This format is probably the only possibility with the crazy number of teams in this league anyway.

The pool play was stupid. By the time you got to the third set of pool play games, there were games being played between two eliminated teams.

I really like what the Southland did for their conference tournament this year but I don't think it is something the SEC would ever do because they'd have to end the season a week earlier.

Top 8 qualified. #1 seed is hosting #4, #5 and #8 in a double elimination tournament this weekend. #2 seed is hosting #3, #6 and #7.

Two winners play a 2 out of 3 series next weekend.

Nothing is perfect and it was a small price to pay. Besides those teams' seasons were mostly over by that point anyway and they probably had been playing for pride for weeks.

It won't ever happen in the SEC for obvious reasons, but I do think it is a cool setup overall. I like rewarding teams with strong regular seasons. Getting to host part of the conference tournament is a big deal for schools like UTRGV or Southeastern Louisiana.

If I were in that league, I would prefer it over traveling to Arizona to play at some spring training stadium with 100 people in the stands.

It's a good setup for them. They want to generate a 2nd tourney bid.
