That may be true, but I'm not sure it showed in both teams' Ohio State games. Texas ran for more yards (and more yards per carry) than Indiana did and gave up way fewer sacks and tackles for loss than Indiana did against Ohio State.

Not to be shown up by tech giant Mark Cuban, Michael Dell just announced he would donate a Dell Desktop and a Monitor to the next player signed from the Portal.

Forgot to mention the Monitor is a 34inch curved Refurbished.

So we're going to find a diamond in the rough backup whose coaches thought the same of their player? And we're going to pay that backup the same money that we would've paid the backup we just let go?

Let's just trade one known commodity for an unknown commodity and wish the unknown is a diamond in the rough.

I mean, yeah. If you have a known commodity you do not really like, you should probably trade him for an unknown commodity you think you might light (but might not).

Whether that is what is happening with Barnes, who knows. But I think it generally makes sense to try an unknown commodity if you do not like the known commodity enough.

I'm sure Michael Dell is very upset that a message board of panty wetters is mad he won't donate money to our football team.

Based on his recruiting ranking, I presumed Bo Barnes was a player with great promise, but in reality, I haven’t seen him play much at all.

Johnny Nansen and Steve Sarkisian have seen him plenty in practice and have been able to evaluate his game tape. They have communicated his value to Muschamp. If IT’s Charlie Williams has accurate information, and they are actually telling Barnes his offer is a reduction in pay, DESPITE a barren LB room, then perhaps he isn’t the player they expected when they signed him, and we should in turn not see this as a great loss.

I know, trust the corches.

By this point I assume Muschamp has watched every snap Barnes played in game and on the practice field. If a decision was made about Barnes - I assume Muschamp made it.

This is a new defense and I don’t know Barnes fit in it.

What if, and believe me this is a hypothetical…. But what if we would have paid Lefau and Wisner instead of begging for scraps… would that do anything for you?

Here’s where we’re at with agents:

One DT that Texas has had “some” interest in is asking for $900K. He’s a mid-rotation sort of guy. He has one offer for $600K and one for $500K. Wants $900K.

One guy at Texas agreed to one amount, then turned around and asked for a bigger number to which Texas reluctantly agreed, then he asked for almost 4X the original number he agreed to. He is free to walk. (This isn’t about Bo Barnes).

This is just where agents and/or players are. From Texas’ vantage there are thousands of options in the portal. Texas will negotiate with terrorists but only to a certain point. And they will happily spend for stars, starters, and immediate depth.

This shit must be driving coaches out of their minds. How you can operate a business like that I have no idea. Teenagers and their slimeball agents all up in your ass lol

Sure seems like the Coleman offer is affecting our capital elsewhere, which is what I feared a week ago when we were rumored to enter that race.

We had the #1 recruiting class last year. I would say they know how to take advantage of it. I mean... it hasn't even been 24 hours that we beat out Ohio State for likely the top portal CB. We're also battling them for the Wisconsin LB that may be the top portal LB.

90 % of the idiots on this board are upset that we couldn't lure in the #1 RB in the country into the portal. The only reason Sprague and the other OL even entered the portal was because Texas was tampering and offered them big money. Michigan matched and they wanted to stay. Other schools have 20 million or more to distribute as well. Half these idiots are complaining that we lost a few OL to Kansas and Baylor. Good fucking riddance. And then we have some intelligent posters here complaining we didn't take a 6 foot 290lb OL from Wyoming. Yeah, no thank you. I've seen how that plays out against SEC DL.

(1) They will go down the list and tamper with multiple good OL until one says yes. 1 week ago, we had no idea about the Michigan duo. (2) We're likely not going to know who plan B and C are until they visit. I'm sure all are talented. With all the said, I'd bet (3) Nick Brooks wins out and takes one of the guard spots for next year so this isn't really going to matter anyways.

1) That hasn't worked for us a single portal session yet. Remains to be seen.

2) Haven't they already visited? One of them already turned us down, I know that. So, another strike there.

3) That's not necessarily a good thing... I'm not saying Brooks can't, or won't, improve for next season, but if he wins out, there wasn't much competition. Brooks was horrible this season. According to his grades, historically horrible. Going into next year with the assumption that Brooks will be good enough to start on your offensive line means you didn't improve the guard spots enough from this year.

What we are doing to manage the OL room is not working. Yes, spares transferred out, but it just shows how we basically have no OL depth anyways. Also, the OL was the worst unit on the team this year. WTF are you even arguing here? Flood has not done a good job managing that room.

Barnes says, "Hey, I want $400k now."

We say no, you're worth $300k.

Now we have to find a spare for $300k in the portal. It's not like Amazon where there are tons of tons of $300k LBs to choose from. You have what's available in the portal or go tampering. Tamper to get some spare to enter the portal for $300k?

Can you find a diamond in the rough for $3-500k? Are you going to blow your wad for another $700k LB?

At this point in the game, I don't trust us to do any of the latter.

We have available 105 scholarships. At the rate we are losing vs gaining, we will be lucky to field 85 scholarships.

I think it's beyond clear there has to be an expectation of binding multi-year contracts in this sport moving forward. Constant 1 year deals is an absolute shitshow. We absolutely need a real professional GM (and I've been saying so for years) but I can't fathom how anyone can effectively budget/plan in this chaos.

That is a slippery slope and not a narrative that you want to have to overcome when recruiting high school players.

The Texas staff, both coaches and Harris' team alike, have been saying for more than a month to folks they deal with externally that they had 3 IOLs locked in and ready to transfer when the portal opened. I didn't know that they were the two Michigan guys and the Wyoming C, but clearly that was who they were banking on when pushing that narrative. So, yeah, we knew something about what was coming and I could have known more if I wanted to geek out and ask for names. But to be clear, that was Plan A-Z. They're scrambling now for alternative options, and some of that includes jumping into the mix on some bidding wars.

This is correct. The most recent example of this working, and it has worked for many cycles now, can be seen with Ffrench, Lockett and M Terry. Folks were resolute that they were okay with any of them walking if they couldn't handle a pay cut. Most big $$ HS recruits either face no raise or a pay cut in the 2nd season. Those who play and kick ass or who look like the next big thing during practices might avoid this, but that's it. This not a process unique to Texas.

Lol, please don't give Herman credit for Christian Jones. I'm pretty sure we can find posts of everyone here bitching about Jones and wishing he would transfer out. Dude improved under Flood drastically to the point that he got himself drafted. Same with Connor, most here wanted him replaced. He improved under Flood and got drafted. Neither player was on anyone's draft boards prior to Flood coaching them. DJ Campbell is about to get drafted, so your narrative about not having IOL drafted is going to be dumb. Then Baker will get drafted, so that will be 2.

ONE guard (Conner), four-star prospect, drafted in the sixth round as a senior. Equivocate all you like. The reality is that's all the IOL draft production Flood has to his name. And yes, we are talking about scouting and actually identifying players because Flood is not in the position to inherit guys anymore like he did with Conner and Jones. He needs to find guys in HS and in the portal. He has failed at the former, and is currently floundering at the latter. Getting a couple of four-stars drafted at the fag end of the draft two years ago doesn't change this reality.

And I mentioned Campbell in my post. A consensus five-star prospect going in the late rounds of the draft as a senior is not a feather in Flood's cap, no matter how desperately you pretend otherwise.

He hasn't run off the entire OL. We're keeping the talented ones and letting the ones that aren't high level players walk to bring in high level players. Brooks is still here, Chatman is, Cojoe, Coleman brothers are. So guys that mattered are staying. First you bitch that we didn't get transfer last year and just wanted to develop the guys on the roster. Now you are bitching that we are looking for transfer and not retaining the same players we've kept that you initially were bitching about.

Holy fuck dude. Yes, we got no transfer OL last year and Flood failed to develop the guys on the roster. Our OL sucked as a result. No one is 'bitching' that we're looking for transfers now. We're pointing out that Flood's numerous failures are why we're in the position of having to scramble for them now. This is not a complicated concept. And LOL at the "keeping the talented ones". You have nothing whatsoever to support this notion. Flood kept 'talented' guys like Stroh, Neto and Kibble around last year and you saw the pathetic results of that.

The stupidity on this board has reached new fucking levels. I think there are maybe 10 or less posters on this thread with actual fucking brain cells. We were 10-3, beat all our rivals, and barely missed the CFP. We have a fucking talented roster and the coaches are doing what they can to bring in even better players and letting the guys that are eating up dead money walk. Stop complaining. We're going to have a top 5 roster again for likely the 4th fucking year in a row. We're going to be a pre-season top 10 and a heavy favorite to win it all. Let the fucking coaches do their jobs that have landed 5 straight top 5 recruiting classes, record level NFL players drafted, multiple award winners, and have a damn good record against teams not named UGA and Ohio State. They are also doing this in a time where everyone is navigating through portal and agent bullshit. Let the portal window close and lets see what we end up with.

Trust the corches, back-to-back semifinals, barely missed the CFP, etc. etc. Thank you for the same copy-and-paste spiel.

The constant self-loathing from our fanbase gets really old. What you’re inadvertently implying is that Texas might be the only school losing some guys that they’d like to keep and that is as far from reality as anything could be. It doesn’t always have to be “man, Texas sucks and everyone else is doing better” but that seems to a default position on this thread lately. It’s boring and tiring.

I didn't imply anything, I asked and admitted my ignorance. I don't see other top NIL schools losing pipeline players currently on the team like Bo. I asked if there were issues with Bo I wasn't aware of that might lead to his departure.

I don't imply shit. I state my opinion and position clearly. People are blaming the NIL environment and I was asking if other top NIL universities had the same issues.

You provided no examples at all.

I do know Texas has and continues to have portal issues with OL. I was concerned that might be an issue again this year given the return of flood and no changes at GM. It's not an insane question to ask if Bo looking to portal is a system or a Texas problem. We did bring in a new DC and maybe Bo isn't a good fit for reasons I am not aware of currently. Doesn't sound like that is the case.

You forgot to mention the suck of Herman and Strong member berries they love to include.

So going in we had a plan to sign three IOL when the portal opens:

Only for one player to not meet whatever height or weight measurement you have for the position.

One choosing to return to his original home.

And one still deciding now four days in.

That was our entire OL strategy for the portal? We didn't want to line up visitors on Monday or Tuesday on the off chance things fell through with our first three options?

Hence the term "inadvertently" when referencing what you were implying. You didn't mean to do so, and you clearly still believe that it didn't happen, but, yeah, you did. Beyond that, I don't do homework for other people. Either you're following along and can easily point to guys at other programs on UT's level, such as Michigan, Georgia, Bama, OU, OSU, and on and on, bailing on them that they didn't want to lose, or you're myopic and only paying attention to Texas while lazily then blaming Texas for the premise of a unique problem.

This is some sort of thought exercise of your own, but the rest of us don't need to be a part of it. This thread alone has posted myriad examples of quality players leaving other programs due to various reasons from agent chicanery, unrealistic NIL expectations, unhappiness with role on roster, etc.
