Transfer Cycle 2025-2026 - Pining For IOLs Who Can Fog A Mirror

Yes, but name two players on our roster that have more than 15 snaps as an off-ball LB.

I would agree on LB. That is probably the biggest need currently. If Barnes is not back, Texas has 1 scholarship LB with experience. I would disagree on WR, I have OL above that.

We technically get an extra five days (January 20th-24th) to go after players on the two national title-game teams.

Also, there are going to be players who don’t get signed during Spring semester and are at home working out in their driveway. Consider it colleges version of the waiver wire where you pick up guys to fill out the roster when spring practice injuries happen.

Tell me how Ffrench and Lockett are doing and I could agree. It's an easier position to play young, so they should be more ready than Brooks is.

1/16 is the deadline to ENTER the transfer portal. Players can sign well after that as long as the request was submitted prior to the deadline. And note it's based on the date of the REQUEST, so you will still see dudes entering the portal up to 48 hours after the window "closes."

so we have until 1/16 to tamper the shit out of any OL we want since we're scrambling (and will apparently have plenty of money to burn).

That is fair. Lot of my concern about OL is Flood's management on the room and the plethora of solid WRs in the portal. I would still say Cam Coleman is the biggest difference maker among Texas targets. I do not think people appreciate the advantage to the offense that an outside WR that commands attention can do for the offense

If I never have to read another poster talk about "well in sales..." again it'll be too goddam soon.

Thursday morning reset:

  • RB - Raleek Brown is in. Retained James Simon. Rumors that Clark upped his ask and we are holding firm. Probably need a between-the-tackles guy to pair with Brown, ESPECIALLY if Clark bails. Not many names out publicly.

  • WR - Waiting on Coleman. Supposedly we are not the highest $$ bidder. Most people fading Texas's chances at the moment. Also had contact with Tre Richardson from Vanderbilt. Georgia fans threw a tantrum when we got involved but nothing seems imminent. Smoke has started up regarding Kaliq Lockett and Daylan McCutcheon.

  • TE - Got the Michigan State guy, lost Jordan Washington. No other smoke at this position, hopefully/probably done.

  • OL - Jesus, who the fuck knows? Review the last 40 pages of this thread for more details. Michigan guys are out, Wisconsin guy is out. One $9.95er this morning implied that the guy from NC State might not be a "culture fit". There was a little talk in previous days that we're waiting on a guy still playing for Ole Miss, but...c'mon. I'm not aware of other names or visits right now.

  • DL - Got Geffrard. Visits from Zion Williams from LSU and the Miami guy whose name I can't remember right now, who both seem like good options.

  • DE - Missed out on Woods from Florida. Oklahoma State guy visiting today.

  • LB - Missed out on the Wisconsin dude (did you hear he broke his arm in a game?) to tOSU. Cal guy is visiting. Some smoke that we are trying to retain Barnes.

  • CB - Got Mascoe from Rutgers. Lost Kobe Black. Maybe done?

  • S - Retained Derek Williams.

I would love to see us get Tre Richardson in the fold.

Sark does well with smaller zip-zoom players that he can motion and start-stop, and get into space.

That's a good fit.

You guys should not get your hopes up on Tre Richardson. Like not even a little bit.

This fucking thread. Pretty sure I doubled my ignore list from 5 to 10 this morning. I can't wait for some of you fuckers to go back to the football board.

I really don't like Sark's rule of, "if you enter the portal you can't come back." There are players that you want to portal and that you wouldn't take back. But for the Kobe Blacks, Bo Barnses, Filsiames and others that you would like to keep on the roster, let them go kick some tires. If better offers never present themselves, let them come back.

I know Florida and Michigan are going through coaching changes but they have had their bell cows enter the portal, see what other schools are offering, then offer enough to make them stay home.

I don't know how many other schools have the same rule, but it seems like another way to hamstring your ability to put together the best roster.

We have a couple of those guys and Brown out of the backfield is going to be a huge weapon in that regard as well. I think getting Arch a big receiver who can be physical on the outside and win 50/50 balls should be a priority. I mean, I’m not turning down a Tre Richardson type, but they also need a big receiver with some experience.

Neither. Just doesn't seem that interested in Texas, but likes the idea of Texas offering an amount. If he makes it in for a visit, of course, his interest could change.

If Arch or Simmons or Goosby went in the portal you bet your ass Sark would take them back. That rule isn’t for everybody and every situation.

I don't know if that means he is "officially" in the portal or that his agents are taking other offers.

Whatever it is, this is going to be a bit of a litmus test on our policy of not going in and coming back.

I would hope so. But, if I were Sark I would quit saying that "you can't come back." I would tell the players that it is on an individual basis.

Curious - do you think Burton chooses to ignore those issues (presumably because Harris is a source or he doesn't want to step on toes) or does he actually believe his schtick that Harris is doing a great job? Every time I hear him knee jerk defend Harris on livestreams I immediately think "I wonder if CTJ is listening right now."

I'm not getting into Burton's relationships with anyone on the Texas staff. That said, he's a smart guy in an information business. Running over the Texas program and its staff repeatedly probably isn't helpful for what he's building. As to wondering if I'm listening, don't. I don't listen to their stuff for many reasons, but mainly because that's not my media of preference. I read their stuff more or less each day, however.

Bizarre post in the way you hedge some things that we know are occurring or have occurred, and then take a face value other shit that hasn't been confirmed anywhere.

-Cam Coleman - Texas is 100% not the highest bidder and it isn't close. I guess you'd need to physically see the offer sheets to believe it?

-Richardson - Texas does not believe that he and his agent are serious and his agent has used Texas in a non-serious way before. They leaked visiting Texas to the media before Texas had spoken to the guy, allegedly.

-Zion Williams and Miami guy play different spots, with ZW being a NT and the other being a 3, I think. If ZW doesn't announce for Texas today, I'll be both surprised and dismayed. That one was done before he finished his paperwork. The Miami dude is making like 4 more visits, so if he leaves without shutting it down, I assume we can write him off.

-The Okie State guy thinks he's worth about 5x what Texas or likely anyone would pay him. I have zero expectations that they'll talk him down, but, hey, they're bringing him in, so we'll see.

-There's no "smoke" trying to retain Barnes. Muschamp is being forced to actively recruit the guy back to the team and that might not be enough. When Harris offered the guy new terms, he basically told him they were bringing in other guys more valuable than him and his snaps in 2026 wouldn't look any different than this year. Bear in mind, Muschamp never said that. Nansen never said that. It's become evident to Muschamp that Texas is being shockingly mismanaged. I don't know why he's surprised. He worked there before. There's always some massive and inexplicable dysfunction happening inside that organization.

-It's not certain that Texas and Black are parting ways. There's a lot of risk there, but they'd prefer to keep him. They're just not guaranteeing a starting spot. This is true for multiple players still unsigned right now.

-Texas still wants, and believe they lead for, the FSU Safety.

Really interested in what happens if they swing and miss on Coleman. Assuming they just roll into next season with existing guys and have more schemed up stuff for Brown?

Which isn't ideal but at least the existing WR room is in a place that is a million times better than the OL and LB rooms.

So Kobe Black is not in the portal, but he's considering it, because we have not named him the starter for next season?

-Filsaime and Kobe Black remained unsigned for 2026

Thinking about this further and I believe it has been mentioned by a couple of 9.95 sites that Filsaime played through a shoulder injury that could require offseason surgery that causes him to miss spring practice time.

The market can't be booming for him as is and that would just be another negative for whoever takes him in if he left.

Would be funny if the secret OL visitor is one of the guys committed to aggy.

Eric Nahlin: Texas Football Positions in Flux as Portal and NIL Dynamics Shift

This morning let’s take a look at ever-evolving roster needs. You may say some positions are stagnant due to a lack of imports, but there have been new exports to account for. We’ll discuss some unresolved situations with current players as well as known targets. First, a quick note. People want percentages like this is high school recruiting. Here’s how it works: schools don’t know what a player is going to do until they get a call from that player’s agent.

Texas can have the highest bid by a considerable margin, but all that does is bring the preferred school (Michigan, Ohio State) up to an acceptable level. So how can anyone possibly offer percentages? My working assumption is Texas will have the highest bid on any player they truly want unless there’s an outlier like Tech and Cam Coleman but even then they’ll be relatively competitive.

QB — 1

Sark is probably kicking this to the grad-transfer market or will just parse tape after more important hay is in the barn.

RB — 1

Portal: Raleek Brown (ASU) just committed. While he can shoulder a bigger load than many are giving him credit for, Texas needs a bigger back. Georgia moderators have said Chauncey Bowens might look for more carries. I joked behind the scenes that somebody is going to try to split that UGA duo. Bowens would be a great fit if he hits the open market and actually leaves Athens. The only logical conclusion after they passed on Adam Mohammed is the staff has something up its sleeve.

Current roster: We’ve been watching Christian Clark. Schools have been showing interest and Texas is trying to keep him. It was trending well yesterday, but nothing had been signed as of last night. He’s got three years. If the Citrus Bowl was indicative of who he is as a player (it was), he has to look beyond this year.

TE — 0

Portal: Jeff Banks hit his mark with Mike Masunas.

Current: Jordan Washington left, but I don’t think they’d need another unless Spencer Shannon left. Shannon is worth developing another year, IMO.

OL — 4–5

Portal: Let’s start with one, huh? Needed numbers are up with the departures of Nate Kibble and Daniel Cruz. Texas needs both starters and depth. Financially speaking, they have been aggressive. They feel they can wave in some lesser players but are still aiming high. One of the moonshots they’ve been tracking has not entered the portal. Maybe they’re still waiting on that—I don’t know. How about a floor-setter?

Current: They probably assume Connor Robertson will return, but we haven’t heard that definitively.

WR – 2

Portal: All eyes are on what Cam Coleman is going to decide. The world is his oyster. Despite all the rumors, including Alabama allegedly making a move, Texas still feels good about its position. “Confident” is too strong but they wouldn’t change their position with anyone. Tre Richardson (Vanderbilt) is on the board but they’re watching some other situations as well.

Current: We’ve heard rumblings about Daylan McCutcheon not being content but he’s about to have a good opportunity. It wouldn’t make sense to leave but not everything makes sense these days.

DT — 2

Portal: Ian Geffrard filled the toughest need as a big NT. Zion Williams should fill another difficult need as a developmental NT. They’re still evaluating DTs. I’m not sure they’re all-in on Donta Simpson.

Current: Everything seems to be status quo with the current group. If there’s any reason for concern, we haven’t heard it.

DE/Edge — 2

Portal: The D-end would be someone who can play 4i. The Edge would be a multi-year player. Wendell Gregory (Ok. St.) is a name to know. Texas was willing to spend big on Jayden Woods (Florida) but missed.

Current: Zina Umeozulu has one foot in the portal. Some think he’ll leave, some think he’ll stay. Who knows?

LB — 2–3

Portal: Christian Alliegro (Wisconsin) just signed with Ohio State. We all knew they had the best story to tell. Will Muschamp made it interesting, but Ohio State is about to put two long, athletic LBs in the first round. Texas’ offer was bigger yet again. Cade Uluave (Cal) is supposed to visit. He and Muschamp should get along. We’re still tracking three other potential portal additions.

Current: Well, Johnny, there’s not a lot to talk about here with the dearth of scholarship linebackers. Oh wait—yeah there is. Bo Barnes, part of a two-man room, is in the portal. I bet they’ll reel him back in. They haven’t really left themselves any other options. I will say I’m bullish on LB recruiting because of Muschamp, but there’s a lot to work out when it comes to processes.

DB — 1–2

Portal: They’ve added Bo Mascoe (Rutgers), who is a true corner. I could see them adding a safety. That’s TBD by…

Current: We’re watching Xavier Filsaime and Kobe Black. To my knowledge, neither has signed for 2026.

We’re still tracking a couple of moonshots. I’m not saying that to give hope. Hell, if they hit the market I’ll just assume they’ll stick with their school, but the buzz has been around for a couple of weeks and it instructs some of their processes at certain positions.

I guess Sark over estimated his whole "culture" thing. I guess culture is awesome until players start comparing paychecks.

You may have better or any insight into this but is the lack of WR guys signed a Texas thing or a P4 wide thing? Assuming that the lack of clarity on WR coach impacts this timeline too, which also should have been clarified pre bowl no matter what IMO

Like how do you not know what you need to be looking for or have your guys locked down halfway through the portal window?

One would think that would change how you handle both internal guys and portal guys.

From my end it appears to be monumental mismanagement that would get you fired from any company that's even halfway decently run, no matter what the business may be.
