Statsman gets disgruntled if you don’t support Israel’s genocide of Gaza.   Here’s what I believe is a truth factoid: every parent of every nationality and race in every country will not be happy with the innocent death of their child due to some murder-y actions by somebody.  it is universal.  I would not call vengeance by Israeli parents of deceased children terrorism anymore that I would call vengeance by Palestinian parents of deceased children terrorism.   Is just one of the world‘s oldest primal emotions - vengeance.

Why someone can’t accept that fact, I cannot fathom.

I’m completely lost— between Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, Yaron Lischinsky of Jerusalem by way of Germany, and Sara Miligrim of Kansas— who are the parents of deceased children and who is getting the vengeance because their kids got murdered?

I’m also completely lost. Are you saying that no Palestinian parents have lost children to the IDF’s attacks recently? Or no Palestinian parents have lost their children to IDF or settler attacks in the last 30 years?

And that no Israeli parents have lost their children to numerous missile attacks from every shithead terrorist organization, sponsored by Syria and Iran? Or no Israeli parents have lost their children to a long line of Hamas terrorist attack attacks over the last 30 years?

I wasn’t trying to say anything profound. Just that if Israel and Palestine want to play England and Ireland - then they are gonna get the Northern Ireland experience.   And that includes every family member killed by Hamas or killed by the IDF, vowing to take vengeance on the person who killed their family. It’s sort of what Homo sapiens do. People who believe they belong to a tribe seem to take this even further.

Fuck this, and every other, payday-bar fueled armed conflict. And fuck that guy for killing the two Israelis.

You’re right, it’s not very profound or even comprehensible. What rhetorical device does dead children and parental vengeance serve in a thread about a murder where no one involved has dead children of any nationality? And why should Americans have to just expect that clearly disturbed people who are overly excited by geopolitical developments and what they read online will shoot people they have never met at a museum?

This type of behavior is (rightfully) ordinarily called stochastic terror.

I mean yeah. Doing grotesque press conferences with “Angel Mamas” and telling everyone that because an undocumented immigrant murdered a cute co-ed, we should all just go along with stuffing a few gay hairdressers that never murdered anyone in a Central American penal colony forever is a pretty apt analogy to this reasoning.

I think he's just saying that the killer is not a victim of Israel directly [or indirectly] in this circumstance. Like, I've always been the "kill Nazis" guy, and I believe that every Zionist is a complete fucking clown at best, but this ain't it. These people that he killed are basically LARPing as Israelis/Jewish people, which is pathetic, but certainly doesn't merit a death sentence.

Nobody wins in this situation. The pro-Palestinian cause is set back because people will think this guy represents it in any meaningful way, and it hurts Israelis/Jewish people because it causes dumbfucks like Jonathan Greenblatt to use his position at the head of the ADL to blame a twitch streamer for the shooting on fucking CNN and likely get himself and the ADL sued for defamation. This type of action only serves to feed antisemitic conspiracy theories.

I’m assuming you don’t have to be a family member of a victim of the Holocaust to have a shit ton of anger at people responsible for that.  You could be a Methodist in Kansas City and still feel like you wanted to kill a shit ton of Germans - or Nazis - or SS - when you learned of the holocaust. I learned about it pretty early because my father liberated several camps at the German Czechoslovakia border.

The last 10 years in America have taught us that the public has shit for brains - and exactly like you say -  will blame some random gay guy for some terrible act by a person who just happened to be gay.

But it seems like you just skip over the ugly murdering acts that caused people to lose their minds when they see or hear about the ugly murdering act.  And the people who want to respond in a negative way to the ugly murdering act do not have to be family members of the victims. I find it odd that you focus on that.

My point was that as long as Hamas is a murdering deplorable terrorist club of shitheads, people will seek vengeance for their murdering, regardless of their family connections - but especially because of their family connections.    And as long as Israel is trying very hard to be Jewish Nazi Germany, there will be people seeking vengeance for their murdering, regardless of their family connections- but especially for their family connections.

And for full disclosure - after the Israeli response to the horrific terrorist act - and the fucking morons who equate supporting innocent Palestinians being needlessly killed with antisemitism - they can all fuck themselves in their goat ass.

Just like I could give two shits about how many Hamas terrorists are killed.   That is not a societal negative.  People who think there is a large gulf distinction between the two right now are full of shit, in my opinion. I would be tickled if we cut off all funding to Israel until they remember what it was like, being oppressed with no hope of rescue. and maybe not have to be told by the president of the United States not to flood Gaza’s freshwater table with seawater because you’re pissed terrorists killed some innocent people.

Your use of the phrase, “overly excited by Geopolitical developments” is like talking about Kristallnacht as “ when some excited people broke some windows”.    The IDF are fucking murderers of late.

That’s a lot of text that boils down to “opening fire at Jewish museums in America is ok if you’re righteously angry at Israel.” It took you a while to get there but you did.

Literally this exact attitude is what is leading to people getting deported and/or black bagged for saying mean things about Israel. I still can't tell if you're even against that.

Said literally no one on this thread.

Yep.

Now, are there folks here who observe that the universal rule of "don't start no shit, won't be no shit?" continues to apply?  Sure.  Hamas stupidly started some shit.....and understandably got some shit in return.  Israel's response turned out to be disproportionate, cruel, and openly proclaiming ethnic cleansing of an entire region.....and shit has happened in return.

Hamas shouldn't have attacked Israel.  Israel shouldn't be ethnically cleansing a region and committing war crimes against civilians in the course of its war against Hamas combatants.  Palestinian supporters shouldn't be committing acts of violence against Israeli or Jewish civilians.  An observation that once the cycle is going, and all parties are doing all they can to perpetuate it, said cycle will surely continue, is just that...an observation.  Would be nice if someone stepped up and broke the cycle.  I doubt any of us are holding our breath waiting for that.

As our world plunges backwards, into one that celebrates revanchism and violence above all else, and values rule of the gun over the rule of law, a lot of us are fully in this era:

shrug-welp.gif

This environment and outcomes are what people across the board seem to be opting into.  So, they're getting it.  We all are.  Choices have been made, across the board.  And here we are.

Look man, I get what you're saying with this post, and I even agree to an extent...but these two sentences are pretty much exactly the issue with how Americans view the situation over there, because it just straight up ignores all historical context and frames it as if everything that's going on over there started on October 7th. Obviously, I know that YOU know that isn't the case, but that's still how you're presenting it.

It doesn't have to be a detailed discussion in this thread, because that's not the topic, but I am loathe to ever say that an oppressed people should not commit acts of violence against their oppressors, and Israel was doing that shit long before October 7th. I know that you know this, but still, like, I just hate the way it is always framed like this.

And we can go down that rabbit hole for the bazillionth time, as issues such as this one are complex as hell, involve years of history and cause-and effect, etc.  But, for the CURRENT iteration of this violence.....I think it is the right conclusion to say that 1) it kicked off based on the events of October 7th, 2) Hamas's actions on October 7th were fucking criminal and horrific, and deserve a violent response, and 3) Israel has gone well beyond proportionate response and is now engaging in what they openly admit is a plan to ethnically cleanse all of Gaza of all Palestinians.  And both of those things are bad.  Then, once you have that foundation laid in this timeframe....more bad shit and violence will happen.

Why the hell were those two targeted?

Seems pretty random.

Not really. They were Jews.

The killer registered for the event (as typical for Jewish events in the western world, you have to register to find out where it is, for safety of attendees), an intra-faith meeting on alleviating suffering in Gaza, so he could execute (the article explains how he shot them from behind, finishing off the girl as she tried to crawl away) a couple of Jews. Despite all the noise on this thread, it wasn’t Likud he was targeting, or Zionists or Israelis. He was looking to kill Jews.

Somewhere along the way, this guy decided he really hated Jews, a condition that has existed in this world for a couple thousand years, without interruption.

Dude just wanted to pop some Israelis. Psycho shit.

Surely, you know this is not true.  There is zero chance these two were targeted as "Israelis."  They were random attendees of the American Jewish Committee's Young Diplomats Reception, bringing young Jewish professionals together with the [not exclusively Israeli] diplomatic community.  Your Dude wanted to kill Jews, and went to a Jewish - not Israeli - event, where there was a good chance he would encounter and get to kill Jews.  Encountering the victims, there was nothing about their appearance, speech, or behavior that would suggest they were Israelis.  The fact that they were employed by the Israeli Embassy is complete coincidence.  The fact that he - a Christian - immigrated to Israel as a teen and became a dual German-Israeli citizen is complete coincidence.
