Gentlemen,

The thread title says it all.  If you disagree with the premise, post elsewhere.  Here is where legends are made and history books are written.

Let us know your thoughts about the strengths and weaknesses and electoral viability of ya boy.  Yes, you read correctly, it's going to be a man.  I like AOC and Big Gretch as much as anyone but we're not going 0-3 with the wimmenz.  I have just returned from Instagram with this guy, who is making a pretty good case for himself:

All you Newsome and Mayor Pete guys stand up and be counted.

Who gives a fuck.

Don't make a shit.

He/she is gonna lose.  Because the Dems can't nominate a safe white guy who's not 1,000 years old.  And for better of for worse, "safe white guy" is all that this country is comfortable with.  We tried "safe, bland black guy," and that experiment may yet prove to be the end of the Republic.

Also....what election?  Dude.  There's far from a guarantee we'll even have one, and even if we do, it's all but certain the Regime is going to suppress votes, outright cheat, etc., just like every other autocratic regime like theirs has done since time immemorial.

Did a google search to see who some of the early names are and…..woof.

I am not familiar with Andy Beshear nor Kentucky politics (besides hating Mitch). How did he manage to be a two term governor in a red state?

No.  Has to be a straight, generic white guy.  And he can't come across as smart.  Smart is "elite," and "elite" only pisses the dumbs off.  And "dumbs" are the only demographic that matters, because in America 2025 and going forward....they're pretty much the only demo, period.

Personally, I think Pete is by far the most electable option at this point (and I've seen him have weird, inexplicable crossover appeal to a lot of Republican voters like my parents) but there is a key Democratic demographic that really does not seem to be on board with him to date, and I have no idea how he wins them over.

(most electable does not necessarily mean I think he would win, FWIW)

Mayor Pete . . . oh, that's right.

It’s weird that many people basically say “fuck these stupid Trumpers” but are also very concerned about appeasing them with the next Dem nominee.

yup. the sooner dems figure out the game isn't to win over drumpf supporters, but to pull the people on the sidelines into the game. that's the winning strategy going forward. there's a liberal contingent (aka me) that will vote for whoever they throw up there as I am a Never-R voter. The way you outnumber the idiots on the other side is to bring in the remaining idiots that up until now haven't voted (or have thrown their votes away writing in Mickey Mouse or John Stewart, like my buddy who thinks he's way savvier than he is). the other side is lost and hopeless and should be treated as such

Probably can't be done.  But they're the largest voting block in America.

Don't think we can do that, either.

Because there's just two kinds of stupid -- Trump voters, and people who are completely uninvolved.  Either way, we need to speak fluent stupid to get em.

PRETENDERS

Newsom (fascist apologist, weak, squandered his credibility).

Pete (ties to McKinsey, will be eaten alive by populists, not straight)

Booker (owned by big pharma, all sizzle no steak, washed up before his filibuster and hasn't made news since, not white)

Warren (looks old, no charisma, not male)

CONTENDERS

Walz (the peak of the Kamala Harris campaign's momentum, but looks old and might not actually want to be president)

JB Pritzker (compassionate, strong as hell, clearly wants the job but can be criticized for his wealth and is a health risk due to his size)

Beshear (proven he can win in a red state, young and handsome, but may be too moderate)

Shapiro (strong in a swing state, skilled orator, but would alienate young voters and has baggage relating to the death of Ellen Greenberg)

Ossoff (from a swing state, also well spoken, and much younger than Shapiro, but could be too moderate for young voters and the party may not want him abandoning a hard-fought senate seat in a state where Warnock barely held onto his seat)

ONES TO WATCH

AOC (Needs a stint in the Senate or as Governor but she is the de-facto leader of the party, so watch what she does in 2028 with that power)

Crockett (Not in the squad, but knows how to attack and has risen to stardom because of it)

Talarico (Needs an opportunity to transition from TX Lege to Congress, watch to see if he gets to speak at the DNC)

Pete Buttigieg is not a pretender. He's a real contender for the nomination.

I'd vote for Pete in a heartbeat, but his proximity to Biden as a member of the Cabinet may be a tiebreaker, depending on how everything shakes out.  I'm hoping a non-member of the Biden Admin starts rising to the top.

Chris Murphy has a good "fuck you" vibe and I'd go with the cadre of Emanuel Bros - three savage jews that won't leave a scrap on MAGA bones.

Why wouldn’t the governor of Maryland be a contender or at least one to watch?

You're right. Has he shown interest in the presidency? Only drawback is that he's not from a swing state (nor is he white, which could hurt his chances)

Not gonna happen. The party needs them more than they need the party. GOP figured this out quick. Dems, not so much.

The petulant left has mostly proven one thing: they are useful idiots who are very good at handing Donald Trump and the MAGA movement win, after win, after win.  MAGA has no greater friend than the purity-politics petulant left.

See, e.g., arab-americans in Dearborn either voting third party or for Trump because goshdarnit, Biden just wasn't good enough on Gaza.

And now Gaza is going to be an Israeli beach resort with 1) a Trump Tower in it and 2) no Palestinians in it.

All true, but that removes the incentive to watch AOC and Jasmine. They’re women and non white.

AOC is the defacto leader of the party, and I don't think she will run in 2028. Assuming the Dems can win in 2028 (a huge assumption) her next chance would be 2036, when she'll be like 50, or damn near 50. Will she still be a powerhouse at that time? Time will tell.

Crockett, same deal. I don't think she has a chance to become president, but the House might not be her ceiling.

That's why they're people to watch, but not viable nominees.

Agreed. But I don't think we should preemptively ding any candidate for horseshit that was used in an ugly 2020 primary race. A lot has changed since then and we all need to be better and focus on real criticisms/issues.

I think it would be very good for AOC, Pete, and 1-2 more TBD strong candidates to lead the 2028 primary.

Pretty sure AOC and Pete have talked/met since 2020, and I don't think they hate each other. Which is good.

Even setting the McKinsey stuff aside, Americans are just done with neoliberalism, and unfortunately that's what Pete Buttigieg represents and hasn't repudiated. Nor could he ever convincingly repudiate it, at this point, because he's way too committed to it. He's a younger, male, Elizabeth Warren. America doesn't want that anymore, if they ever did.

AOC became the defacto leader of the party for many reasons, but one of the biggest reasons is that she doesn't campaign like a neoliberal. Her policies are socialist-adjacent, which used to be disqualifying but now is an asset. People, not just young people, want socialism. They reward socialism at the polls. And they punish neoliberals, like the asshats who run the DNC who can't even allow a Palestinian to be heard for five fucking minutes, with apathy and third party votes.

I like Pete, personally, and I know he could do the job and do it well, even if he and I don't see eye to eye on policy. But nominating him is like bringing caviar to a honky tonk. Just give the people what they want already, for the love of god.

This is all wrong and just bullshit talking points from the left.

If I'm wrong, I'd be thrilled. But I try to pay attention to these things and even I haven't come across any evidence that Buttigieg supports medicare for all, or any other programs that aren't means-tested beyond all recognition. The last I'd heard from him he was flirting with COVID shutdown opposition and suggesting that Joe Biden opened the border. That's weak Newsom shit.
