Theres absolutely no chance any DB is overlooking a WR at Texas because hes white. Its the most desirable position in the country with what Sark has done with X and Golden.

I don't believe one can definitively state that. I believe Ohio State still holds the most attraction among elite WR recruits. Although, Texas is probably 1b. Add in AD Mitchell to the allure too.

The odds of Stroh being legitimately good seem pretty slim. Dude just rolled out of bed one day in year 3 and started kicking maximum ass? Uh huh. Clearly, injuries along the OL have forced Flood into some uncomfortable maneuvering.

This is where my head is at too. It's probably some nuanced combination of good and bad news. I'm sure Stroh has improved, but Neto again disappointed and got beat out by him. I doubt Stroh is just looking great.

is there a depth chart out?  i dont see it posted on ut athletics site.

I'm putting one together and will post it when it's done in this thread and probably in the game thread. There are discrepancies between the different projected depth charts from the media. Mine probably won't be an exact match to the official one, if they even post one, but it will have the players likely to play on it and not be far off. I don't know if we can even expect an official one will get posted. They haven't always done so.

I also have a full roster I'll post as well or you can print out the official one which is 5 pages. Mine is 3 pages despite having a larger font.

I'll go ahead and attach the roster here, but will also post it with the depth chart when that gets done.

just got a last minute invite so headed up there tomorrow heading back right after the game.  We have never been to Columbus.

i'm sure it's been discussed but I don't have time to comb through the thread --

i'm sure all of the restaurants will be slammed but it'll only be two of us for dinner tomorrow night and we don't mind sitting at the bar / waiting for a table.

Questions -- (1) what are the best steakhouses in Columbus (I see Jeff Ruby's and Butcher & Rose that both look ok); (2) what about other good places to eat; (3) are any of the steakhouses / good places to eat in an area that would be fun to walk around?; (4) is there a fun place to walk around and pop in for a drink/beer where our old asses won't get assaulted?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I'll suggest the burgers at Thurman Cafe in German Village....I've never actually managed to go but it's on the bucket list.  And that neighborhood is my favorite in town, atmospheric and walkable.  If you're a nerd, check out the Book Loft which is my favorite bookstore anywhere (partly due to the nostalgia of going there as a kid with my Dad on Friday nights before games).

Thursday - Columbus O-H-I-O

Good morning from Columbus, Ohio!

**

As I wrote yesterday afternoon, offensive guard Connor Stroh has had a terrific fall camp. He may have even pushed ahead of Neto Umeozulu at left guard as starter.

Stroh only moved to left guard three weeks ago. He had been apprenticing behind DJ Campbell on the right side with Nate Kibble backing up Neto on the left.

But the coaches flip-flopped Kibble and Stroh, and Stroh has apparently taken full advantage of the opportunity on the left side.

At first, it was thought the move was made because of the injury to Andre Cojoe at right tackle. Texas wanted to develop depth at left tackle and tried Neto there some while moving Nick Brooks to right tackle to give Brandon Baker ample competition. That slight opening gave Stroh a chance to shine as a starter and make the left guard position a very real competition.

Flash forward to game week and it appears Stroh could be the starter against the Buckeyes, or will at the very least be in the rotation.

**

I mentioned yesterday that transfer quarterback Matthew Caldwell is getting the reps with the 2s.

KJ Lacey is now getting reps with the 3s. The true freshman continues to be a real bright spot, especially in 11v11 work.

**

When I visit another college town, I always try to go out early, see the stadium, drive thru campus and then have breakfast at a local institution. I also try to get a little keepsake just in case it’s a Longhorn victory to remember.

I did all of those things this morning.

Here are some pics!

It's less about skin color and more about aura. Livingstone just puts an extremely white vibe out into the universe.

Or my above comment could have been made in jest. One or the other. I'll let you decide.

Is that a good neighborhood to Uber to tomorrow night, any bars?

nvm, google mapped it -- Thurman IS a bar.

You think anywhere is safe at night in Ohio after the last time we played there? It's not even safe in Ohio at night, inside a police station, on a normal Wednesday.

German town is pretty cool, its been a while, but lots of local bars and food, older crowd. Should be much nicer than hanging around on campus, might even feel like being rescued from a a POW camp.

Yeah, anywhere along High Street close to downtown area is plenty safe. I don't think I'd take kids there but otherwise I'd say it's less sketchy than 6th these days.

Just going to state the obvious on Stroh. He could not see his toes when he came to the 40. Believe he has lost 25- 30 pounds since he arrived and is still a very large human being. This is just a guy that transformed his body and is probably moving better as a result. He is probably looking better than his HS film, but hard to know where that puts him today.

That and everything I've heard about him is that he bleeds burnt orange and coming to Texas was his family's dream come true.  Losing that sort of weight at his size is no joke.  He could have just stayed fat and live out his dream as a backup his whole career, but he hasn't and good for him.   His strength is a known commodity, and everything else he can develop with enough determination and practice.  Shit, if Taaffe can go from walk-on to All-American, anything is possible.

Apparently, the way that they are going to tape or brace his fingers/hand involves a cast.

Yes, they aren't going to club it as far as I know. Technology has come quite a ways. They can now isolate it where he still has some mobility in the hand. Though I  don't know if Goosby's particular injury calls for that treatment.

Either way they're going to cast it up in a way he can play. Elite LT isn't missing a game of this magnitude with a finger injury. NFL scouts would question his toughness if he did.

We should probably start a thread, if one doesn't exist, of good podcasters. We shit on bad ones, which I support, but to be clued in to some I'm unaware of would be nice. Perhaps it already exists and I'm clueless?

Klatt, The Film Guy and College Football Nerds all have been discussed and posted here and those are my personal top 3. Would love to find more.

lol oh boy. Look, I don't put any stock in it at this point, but "we're going to be okay because of how Arch looked against Georgia" is one of the most impressive exhibitions of batshit homer mental gymnastics I've ever seen on this board.

Looked, who said looked? Only thing implied is he looked like shit. Go back and read so you can understand what was said.

Here is what the public is doing on the betting side, per Action Network, where I have a subscription:

64% of the bets are on Texas. 71% of the money is on Texas. They're tracking 37,678 bets for that data.

They've also stated that, as of now, both the sharp action and the expert picks are majority Texas by a good margin.

I'm about to hit the sports book at Columbus Hollywood casino to add my surly non 1% bet to those Texas totals.  The only thing making me hesitant is your refusal to publish a mud hole post but I'm reading between the lines here.

As far as national podcasts, I listen to Cover 3 (mostly for Bud Elliott and Chip Patterson), The Audible (mostly for Bruce Feldman), Split Zone Duo, and the Solid Verbal.

All of them are good. None of them are really great.

Nobody seems to be taking into account that he is a soulless ginger. I mean, if you're looking to move bodies, that should figure into the equation.

KJ Lacey is 5'10", 175 with a great arm and a ton of moxie. He's arguably a better QB with the same body as what ATM will be starting against UTSA.

Lacey may be QB2 by the3 time SEC play rolls around. And that most certainly will be a good thing. You don't have to go out on a limb to suggest he has a much higher upside than Caldwell. Hopefully nothing happens to Arch, BUT.

Too bad it's not working out for Owens, but another stud is coming in next year. Texas looking good even if Arch leaves early.

KJ Lacey using up his redshirt this year putting him a year ahead of schedule in front of Bell isn't a bad thing.     Not so important that you would push him out there if he is not ready, but if he takes the 2nd team spot, all the better.

25- Arch - KJ takes over 2nd

26 - Arch with KJ the clear number 2  Bell red shirt

27 - Arch to NFL  - KJ starts with Bell 2nd

28 - KJ to NFL - Bell starter

What we do in 2029 after 4 straight Championships, i'm not sure.

I had to stop watching Klatt last season when he wouldn't shut up about the playoff seeding.  He just couldn't let it go.

If Owens transfers and arch leaves early, we'll be looking at a QB room of a likely redshirt freshman, a true freshman and whomever we can coax out of the portal.  As much as I like the potential of lacey and bell, that is not an ideal QB situation for a title run IMO.

Starting redshirt freshmen or sophomores for first time doesn’t seem to affect Ohio state much. Team talent matters in these situations. If it was 3-10 years ago I’d be worried but our overall team can help with that. Also the days of having RS juniors and seniors be your starting quarterbacks at elite programs is rare.

For some inexplicable reason there is a Thurman’s in the Austin, TX airport.

How the fire marshal lets Book Loft get away with that place I don’t know. I love books but dying in a book fire isn’t part of my life plans.

LOL - I was just there a month ago and just had that same thought.  Obviously it never occurred to me as a kid, but it definitely did as a father.  But I just decided not to ask such important questions.
