Arch sitting a game for a non-serious injury is what he needs right now (and should have got a long time ago). Gets a chance to unscramble his brain and look at someone else operate the offense in a game situation.  I think Caldwell gets us the win next week and Arch gets right in the process.

With Arch likely concussed, I think we might see Caldwell starting next week.
He's looked the part in his handful of plays, we are probably about to find out vs. Vandy.

Concussed? I’m sure it’s buried in other threads, but is this true? Sucks if so.

I’m not an MD, but he was definitely concussed.

Seems the most likely injury given the hit.  And he got up fully mobile, but slow, disoriented looking.

Or Lacey or anyone else
I never in a million years thought I'd say this, (before the first 5 games) but I agree.

Arch has made some fantastic throws, but nothing I haven't seen other college QB's do, but those same QB's aren't often off target on the easy throws.

Yes the O-line shares some blame for sure, but even when they give Arch a clean pocket he isn't even 50/50 with his accuracy.

He may eventually become a good college QB, but he isn't good enough to transcend our offensive deficiencies this year.

Texas OL has given up more pressures than any other team in SEC.

Arch showed you what he could do given time in the 2nd half.

I've seen flashes, sure. That said we have far tougher competition upcoming than Kentucky and Moo State...we need consistency, not brief flashes of greatness.

Just to be clear, what I wrote above isn't based on just tonight's game, but rather a body of work that showed Arch getting better then regressing the following week. Arch played well tonight while our normally stout defense was wildly inconsistent. Overtime tonight was courtesy of the defense and O-line, not Arch.

That said, I think it would be good for Arch to sit out the next game to catch his breath and observe with no pressure to be the hero. I don't think he should lose the starting job to Caldwell unless Matt is simply on fire and lights up the scoreboard vs Vandy and humiliates sweet baby boy Diego.

He had one earlier this year and against Ohio state.  This isn't 2008, at a certain point he may be Ash 2.0

His head got bounced off the grass and then he was walking kinda sideways. Concussion is a pretty good guess

Definitely concussed. When the play happened, he didn't want to (or couldn't ) get up right away and even when the lineman tried to help him up, he stayed down. Not only did he fall hard onto the turf, but seeing a different angle tonight while watching the news, it really looked like the second MST player that hit him was an elbow/forearm to the base and back of his helmet and not his back.

One of the assistants walking him off the field had a handful of the back of his jersey for stabilization and to keep him upright.  I'd be surprised if he clears protocol to play. Probably shouldn't.

I am not in the Caldwell is the best option camp, but for the long-term health of Arch I actually hope he doesn't play next week. He was absolutely concussed and head injuries are extremely serious given both short term and even moreso long-term issues.

You’re saying he had a concussion last year and one earlier this season?

Matty seems quite popular with the team in spite of only being with the program a few months.

To be fair, (to Arch) that was clutch go ahead TD toss that ended up deciding the game.

Oh, I don’t think Arch is anywhere near really good, it was just a STARK difference (in a good way) between “NO TIME ARCH” and “SOME TIME ARCH”.

The tOSU one was never reported or confirmed but it was obvious, he was walking all woozy like yesterday

And he took a huge hit where he looked dazed af earlier this year against one of the shitty teams we struggled with.  Can't recall off top.

He coulda shoulda slid on that one last night. I know he’s a tough gamer. Still, Pretty frustrating all around.

Plan moving forward:

Arch should be replaced by Caldwell.

Caldwell should be replaced by Lacey.

Lacey should be replaced by Owens.

Owens should be replaced by Tatum.

Tatum should be replaced by Dunham.

Dunham should be replaced by Wisner running the Wildcat.

So we will get consistency from the QB who has completed two passes against tougher competition?  Oh wait, MSU not tougher competition.  Hmmm, I'm having trouble following the logic in this post.

I'm legitimately excited for what looks like Caldwell's opportunity to start vs. Vandy. It's clear he's a great teammate.  Feels like the players will definitely rally around him.

I'm hope it's announced soon, so we can get Zapruder breakdowns all week of his handful of plays so far 😂.

Probably because he didn't slide.

Defender used his arm/shoulder to make forcible contact with Arch's head/neck. Should've been targeting and the booth had plenty of time to review it, even with the on-the-field refs being blind to pretty much anything that would've favored us other than a couple of blatant PIs.

Looks like he hit him in the back with his shoulder. I can see why they didn't call it.

His PFF grade is in the 80s with clean pockets and he was top 10 in the name in Big time throws this season

That's fantastic, maybe some of the bad throws stuck in my mind were actually drops by the intended receiver.

Look, I just want to win games..and it would be great if we could win a couple this year that literally nobody gives us much to get it done. (Georgia, Aggy)

If that's Arch behind center when we win a shocker, that's great! That said it still doesn't satisfy my curiosity about Caldwell, but it seems we're about to have any questions answered no matter what any of us here thinks about anything.

He has looked very good in limited time. His career stats are worrisome. Sub 60% comp, 22 TDs, and 15 ints through 5 seasons. Feels like we are going to find out on Saturday

He can plant his facemask squarely in the back of arch's head and it wouldn't have been targeting

Especially after they penalized us for trying to knock the ball out along the sideline. That was such a soft call.
